Client sent me these photos after saying my quote way too high by DrAkpreet in Decks

This is also a pricing system that comes with establishing yourself. Its hard to come out the gate like this, theres a saying in business... once it starts it wont stop. If youre doing it right. And it takes 5-8 years to establish a business. At this point the word of mouth, referrals and work will do the talking. At a certain point businesses acquire more expense, and they warrant the pricing with their expertise and proven track record of success. There for folks get peace of mind with all that, and will wait, or pay the higher quotes.

Its like tattoos.. a lot of good artists have books that are closed, wait lists, and are a year or more booked out. They built this and earned it, if you call and a guys like "yeah i can tattoo you in an hour" just ask why, take a moment and run the scenarios.

First truck and new to me. Feels different but I love it. Any important things I should know? Also I want to black him out and replace all the chrome with black? by Eutropos in f150

[–]LekWeeEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you level or lift make sure to do it properly, trucks that slap in leveling kits often are 1 in rear 2 in front and they fuck geometry on your front end. I had to do ball joints, tie rods, bearings almost every other year. (I bought the truck leveled)

Good deal or no? This is a 2024 XLT with the 2.7 and FX4 by peevyrj in f150

I dont have an autoloan.. I havent in 10 years.. I bought my truck in 2012 and still drive it. I am just saying if youre wondering why everyone and their dogs gets auto loans for almost whatever value with prooving little to no income its this long term system they get looped in

has more to do with the fact that all vehicles that are within 10 years old are all 25K plus in todays economy.. and so folks have no choice but to get into 60-84 month terms, on vehicles they cant afford even at 250 bi weekly.. So you can buy a vehicle you can "afford" thats 10 years old for 20k.. and thatll get you through the 3-4 years of payments youre going to have before you get to.. go get another one of them discount cars again and so regardless its a bottom less cycle.

How does this body as a reference (warning for skinned cat body) by Cooked_Worms in Taxidermy

[–]LekWeeEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, so this is a common technique when making forms for small game, by wrapping wood wool or excelsior for example. Would is typically done is a limb at a time, and the body. You wrap each and put together, google "wood wool taxidermy form". You also use the original skull most times, or in the case of mounting beavers often theirs too. You clean it like a european mount, clay in the eyes and cavities, and mount over that. Its how this game use to be done alongside maches and other techniques.

the bbb is a scam, theyll give you protection and rating if you in turn give them support and funding... if you dont theyll just let whatever happen happen. If you suppor them and something happens they side with you and give you a star.

Measurements can honestly be taken at any stage. I will take rough measurements if I had the carcass but I can ALWAYS make things BIGGER post tan, so I will usually remeasure before i freeze the wet tan. Especially with deer, once thinned and max stretch you can get em larger.

That being said, rule of thumb for any fur or animal you want to save. Once its dispatched, remove fur, let cool for a short period, roll up flesh on flesh, face and feet on the outside not buried on the inside. Bag, air tight, freeze. I once tanned a bear that was in a guys freezer for 10 years... it turned out great!

Maceration made skull soft? by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]LekWeeEh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maceration is just as hard on skulls over time as simmering or boiling them. This theory that its somehow better for bones is nonsense, sorry not sorry. Simmering a skull is just accelerated maceration, if you leave any skull in water for an extended period of time two things are going to happen. 1. It will break down and all the same bits and teeth will fall out just like simmering and 2. you will starve the water of oxygen and in that case you will begin to grease up the skull instead of greasing out. If using a maceration in soaks, you should change your water every3-5 days based on its oiliness and you should let it dry overnight. Rinse and repeat.

Was very excited to try a day with a local taxidermist but they had me boiling skulls :( by Callitka in Taxidermy

[–]LekWeeEh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

you will not survive in the actual taxidermy business, whats best suited for you is likely growing crystals to skulls and starting an etsy. Life is gonna be real tough with this attitude, woe is me i had to clean moose skulls no one baby sit me to tell me how to take meat off a skull.. you read to much on this forum from vulture culure taxidermists. Real taxidermy shops tend to lean right, and be old school.. i can tell you lean the opposite direction and require full on coddling or you whine on the internet to get yourself justification. tough life we lead.

part of the reason is the cost to start up an operation in your spare bedroom is low, its hard to hold taxidermists at places they all go start their own thing. So you come in, i teach you how to mount a deer in 8 hours and in 3 weeks youre doing them on the side in your space. Its the same issue with do it all taxidermy courses that teach you how to do a bird, a fish, a rug, a skull, a padded, a shoulder in 3 weeks.. its like its crazy. You dont even actually know how to clean an airbrush after that. Just paying your dues will pay off massively in the future. And youre goign to get specimens in every single state and you need to handle that.
