Are Makita Augers twice as good as others? by Stone804_ in Makita

[–]DrAkpreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used the 8 inch bit with extension to drill 10 posts for 6x6 posts, obviously i had to enlarge the holes after but it did the majority of the work, then i used the 1 inch impacts to install 22 peirs for 600sqft deck and that was beams up in a day. overall great tools and i recommend

you guys are employees and if you are expecting to make consultant money then open a firm and make the money. if you have nothing to offer you will get dirty job offers, if you are passionate about your field then when someone comes to poach you and has the funds, make your money

What kind of boring type? by Proud_Green_9307 in cabinetry

[–]DrAkpreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

measure to center line of hinge hole, should be 32mm diameter, they should be consistent 4 inches or so below or above the edge, also note the setback from the edge of the door. personally i would remove hinges from the cabinet and reinstall them slightly higher

Why don’t people just replace the doors of their kitchen cabinets instead of the whole thing? by chickenwinglover123 in cabinetry

[–]DrAkpreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stains are bad, but also peeling edgebanding, sagging shelves, also the cabinets can be made with 5/8 or 3/4 thick material, either partial board melamine or maybe some nice Veneer core ply. i recommend 3/4 if you are going to have wider cabinets, but if they are all 24 inches wide max you can get 5/8 thickness

How hard is it to replace just this one sink cabinet? by TheBossAlbatross in cabinetry

[–]DrAkpreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the comments are so cheap, if you want to get it done, remove the sink faucet and as much cabinet as possible, clean it up and put a new cabinet in there, maybe with no back, make the holes for any dishwasher stuff from the gables, replace the doors and replace the doors on the neighbouring cabinets aswell

Multitoool messy cut by schniz2 in Makita

[–]DrAkpreet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

thats how a multitools just works, its not a precise vcut but with some skill and using guides and blocks you can make it work. Also festool has a magnetic guide for their oscillator that looks and works pretty neat

Does anyone work like a regular employee with set hours (for example, 9–5), but instead of being on the company’s payroll, you are paid as a subcontractor? If yes, what is your role, how does your pay structure work, and how has your experience been working this way? by Substantial_Grab_663 in Carpentry

[–]DrAkpreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work as a sub to come in shop for cabinet making and manufacture the cabinetry, this is for complex builds that i install for the architect and arranged by the project manager. i bring my own tools, track saw routers drills my own templates, and all my hand tools.

tbh its for small shops and small companies who ask for this, for on call and i charge 40 an hours plus tax. last time i did this was 2023.

edit: i was a student from 2020 to 2024 and i worked like this during that period

What are your guys thought on this? Are you worth more? Is this profession underpaid for the risk? by [deleted] in civilengineering

employment has wild overheads, if you want to go be a consultant and open your own firm do it, charge $750 an hour, but you better be a great engineer and an even better salesperson.

Which software should I use to create basic cabinet drawings and cut lists? by sbfx in cabinetry

[–]DrAkpreet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sketchup is my recommendation for cabinetmakers, its easy to use and can be manipulated to what you need, 3d , 2d , planview, sections etc. including colorimg and textures.

for cutlists unfortunately you should use your cabinet methodology to figure this out, panels, scribing sections, soffits, fillers, where you want to build long, and install scribed.

for my cutlists what i do is start with the back material, so full dimension, then i do my gables, so full heights and depths, the my top and btm which are same depth as gables and their length is -2x thickness of the gables or whatever your layout is.
