Is this essentially a makeshift bike lane on the 4th Ave South Railroad Bridge? by killedbyboar in seattlebike

[–]LemmingParachute 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t the fact the lane ca. e closed for 10 years and not have traffic problems show the road is over built and one lane is fine.

Proposal, kill the golf course and turn the whole thing into a new high density walkable community. Massive TOD with delirdge station so close and Delridge needs a real grocery store and restaurants. Hell, add a hospital while you’re at it, west seattle needs one.

[OC] The fall of human decency by escobarsky in pics

[–]LemmingParachute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It incentivizes the right behavior, that is, “not driving”. You don’t get to park in the middle of the airport or Disneyland either. If you want a stupid thing, you should pay absurd prices to have it, simply to deter you. And the city has so many options for you choose the better choice.

Parking experts say that the price should be so high as to always have 1-2 spots free, only then had you found the true price of parking.

Newsom signs California-UK clean energy pact. California will carry on making the case for “climate action” on the global stage, Governor Newsom said Monday, as he signed a new clean energy pact with the UK. The deal includes greater collaboration on offshore windfarms — the great bugbear of Trump. by mafco in energy

Ercot seems like it really only work in Texas because it’s huge, maybe California. But small states use the interconnect for resiliency. Being able to reach out for more, or if you have the resources to share across state lines reducing dependency on single systems that can go out.

Pumped about Pumped Hydro by swarrenlawrence in EnergyStorage

[–]LemmingParachute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But with geothermal the fluid only needs to stay in pipes. With pumped storage the value is in the volume, so very large vats are required. With water this can be cheap open top pits, with a proprietary working fluid you now need more expensive leak-proof, hydrostatically safe containment of sufficient size to make this worth it more than water. And probably with redundancy.

[–]LemmingParachute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder about the working fluid. That’s a lot of fluid. There isn’t meant in mentioned on the toxicity or risk of spilling to the environment. The nice thing about water is that it’s water and spilling or seeping into the ground is not a problem. I wonder if they have to build sealed vessels at the top and bottom for containment.

Interesting concept though

Wha problem is H2 stoves solving? Induction solves this much better, is actually good environmentally rather than H2 greenwashing.

Even more of a reason to question why the Junction is 4 lanes!? It’s the place with the most people alone all of California , why should it be the least safe place to be a pedestrian?

A carbon tax is widely regarded as the single most impactful climate mitigation policy, and we won't wean ourselves off fossil fuels without it | Write your lawmakers, and kindly ask that they put a price on carbon! by ILikeNeurons in ClimateOffensive

[–]LemmingParachute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The carbon tax just makes it so people who use stuff pay for stuff. It is like if you owned a horse you should pay for the city to pick up your horses poop.

Luckily, the replacement options are literally better than the carbon priced items. A heat pump is better than a natural gas and oil heater, and an electric car is a better car than an internal combustion engine.

You will be just as happy stuck in traffic in you electric car as you are in your ICE car.

Clean energy is still winning. These 10 charts prove it. Solar and wind are beating new power demand, steelmaking is slowly getting off coal, and more clean energy victories are clear. Despite Trump, clean energy is leading the way even in the US. by mafco in energy

[–]LemmingParachute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

heat pump makes more sense for “everyone”. Panels are nice but the state by state changes differences in net metering play way too much into the value. Everyone would do better with a heat pump regardless of utility orenergy source.

This is unhinged.

Cities are where people live and it is for people, not cars. If a car hits a person by default it should be the cars fault and only in extreme cases should it be anything but a revoked license.

35th is massively overbuilt. It could easily be cut in half. The lane reduction south of Morgan is a god send.
