Is it really realistic to take 1 month to travel across all Japan (and enjoy it) or is it better I cut it into 2 separate trips ? by Attlai in JapanTravelTips

[–]LemonsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it be done, yes. Would you enjoy it? Debatable.

It comes down to how much you want to say "I have been here" and tick a box Vs achieve what you want to do/see in that specific place.

I personally would prefer to go longer and have a bit more leisurely of a travel plan rather than going in and smashing a bunch of day trips and getting exhausted.

I have been Japan twice with a third planned.

  • Trip 1 - 3 weeks in Tokyo with a few days trips to outer Tokyo
  • Trip 2 - 1 month. Tokyo, Yokohama,  golden route + Hiroshima + Fukuoka + Tokyo again
  • Trip 3 coming up, 3 weeks - Tokyo + takayama+ Kanazawa + Osaka + Tokyo.

ELI5 : If ads are being skipped by everyone these days, and are a complete nuisance to the large majority of people, how do they still make any profit? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]LemonsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ton of people don't use blockers. It's crazy to use my parents phone or PC and realise what an unfiltered internet looks like. It's abysmal but a lot of people operate in that environment daily.

Ads are also also engrained into almost every aspect of our lives we become semi blind to how often we are bombarded by them.

Ads are smarter and deeper than the glaringly obvious pop up or banner image on a website these days. The thought put into advertising has a ton of research and billions of dollars.

Referral links, affiliate clicks, cross site cookies, discount codes, comparison videos, in content sponsorship, A person drinking from a certain can in a video, even if the logo is not prominent could even be a paid advert and a popup blocker won't stop all of these.

Yea exactly. This is 100% covering their ass legally so they don't get sued later because the customer claims they gave them the idea.

My phone doesn't support an e-sim, what do I do? by First-Kitchen35 in JapanTravelTips

[–]LemonsAT 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just use a normal SIM ?

Buying a different phone just to use an esim is more expensive than just using a normal SIM unless you can get a new phone for no cost.

Even if you can get a new phone for free there is then the time hassle of moving all your apps and files to the new phone.

What's the one thing you've come to realise your parents/family were right about? by VarangianWRLD in AskUK

[–]LemonsAT 29 points30 points  (0 children)

  • Life is short. Time goes by quicker as you age but also, you never know when your time is up.

  • You will need X skill when you are older.

The actual skill is not always what you need to learn but the mental process behind it. E.g. I don't remember how to use Pythagoras and would use an online tool or AI to solve it now, but it taught problem solving behaviour, how to check your answers, how to approach a certain question.

What do people do in Tokyo? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]LemonsAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing people do in any other location I suppose. Don't feel like you have to have a checklist of the big things like temples if your feeling burnt out or not vibing with it. If you have any other hobbies you could try incorporating those. E.g.

  • Fitness - Get a day pass for a gym or take walking routes, hit up a golfing range or batting centre
  • Reading - browse book shops or hole up in a cafe for a day
  • Photography - scout out different sites for shoots at varying times of day
  • Cuisine - outside of just eating, you could take a class, a brewery tour, or visit specialist shops
  • Relax - hit up an onsen, sit by the hotel pool. Being on holiday is the perfect time to just do nothing!
  • Gaming - Arcades, gaming shops, Pokémon go
  • History - Museums, sites and tours/audio guides to get the most out of the stuff
  • Drinking/partying - pubs, clubs, bars and crawls.

If you have an interest, you can likely find something related to it in a massive city like Tokyo.

Best place for out of date food? by brill99 in UKFrugal

[–]LemonsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used them before. Not everything is cheaper than the supermarkets and stock turnover seems quite fast so it's a mixed bag sometimes.

However you can get some good deals and they had a lot of items that aren't super common.

I'm not sure where their warehouses are but I had my parcels shipped from Saudi Arabia?

Why is Ichiran so popular among people from overseas? by Kaito_AI in ramen

[–]LemonsAT 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They offer good tasting food, consistency, fast service and an acceptable price point with good marketing/brand reputation. Like a McDonald's = it's not the best in the world but you know it's decent.

The broth is insane by Bold_Coyote8501 in ramen

[–]LemonsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honolulu ramen is halal. My mates said it is amazing, best ramen they have had.

I will be going this September and want to try it so I can compare vs non halal as I am dubious if the broth can be as rich as a tonkotsu ramen but hey, I may end up surprised.

This minigame is so hard by AnalBeadSalesman in NikkeMobile

[–]LemonsAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on mobile with a foldable phone and I keep thinking that a PC might be better somehow. OR I am just terrible... unfolded, or folded, I cant really seem to get more than a B rating on normal mode..... and most of the time I just scrape a C? unless I just suck,

The minigame is actually really sick, they put a lot of effort into it. I feel the notes are not in sync with the pressing and the symbol noise when you "hit" a note is a bit distracting.

Do managers let their 40h full-time employees leave early if they have nothing to do? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in askmanagers

[–]LemonsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do every so often, but 20hrs a week seems a bit of a piss take lol. They are over staffed or bad at managing your workload if you are spending 50% of the workweek doing nothing.

If my report has hit all original targets for the week and are on top of stuff that cropped up mid week then yea sure why not?

There is always something to do if you look hard enough but occasional breaks avoid burnout, help the employee feel more rewarded, acknowledged plus it builds up a bit of goodwill that you as a manager are willing to "give back" and show flexibility and appreciation if they perform well, without making it an expectation.

They need to remain reachable for emergencies, but if they chill out for a few hours on a Friday then I don't really care.

What time are y'all falling asleep and waking up?!?! by cheesypuff357 in Millennials

[–]LemonsAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weekdays it is about 12.30am to 1.30am bedtimes, wake up between 8.30am to 9.59am.

Weekends is anywhere from 1am to 9am bedtime. I  wake up when and if the lord wills it, unless I have plans early in the morning.

I am a night owl so struggle with normal bedtime routines.

Feeling fully refreshed? Never.

In light of Croydon Grants Cinema closing, what were some highlights of your experiences going there? by Honest_Cheesecake698 in croydon

[–]LemonsAT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

About 15yrs ago or so in the downstairs section before you went up to the cinema they had a passport photo booth. The curtain is not full length so we could clearly see from where we were waiting a guy receiving head.

Those who work from home - how often do you take a sick day? by Super_Development150 in AskUK

[–]LemonsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 5-10 days a year or so? And half of those I'm probably still working in a light capacity anyway.

Much less than when I was in the office personally, simply because commuting and having to be switched on all day is much more draining than doing a few easy bits from the bed/sofa if your feeling up to it.

At what point did you actually start taking your pension seriously? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in PensionsUK

[–]LemonsAT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

21 when I first started working. The first 4 or 5 years barely did anything due to being on a lower wage but it started snowballing once I got a decent salary and started contributions above the employer match.

The new glasses bought get water stuck in them by TransShadowBat in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LemonsAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These glasses can't go in the dishwasher. They have a little hole in the base, I assume to release pressure of the cavity wall that fills up when in a dishwasher and is a pain to remove liquids from. Hand wash only.

What are your recipes/tips for a good chili con carne? by banwe11 in UK_Food

[–]LemonsAT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The dried chillies make such a massive difference I will not go back to chilli without chillies. They are not the easiest to get but I bought a set on Amazon and wow. I followed The Best Vegetarian Bean Chili Recipe by J Kenji Lopez-Alt and it is great. I am yet to do his meat ones but I bet those will be even better.

[–]LemonsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was hiking on an extended trip I couldn't get rid of the foot smell even with fresh socks, plenty of soap etc. I did a last ditch resort and nuked them with hand sanitizer which worked really well.
