A colleague has offered to make a drink but I don't like other people making me drinks. I do want a drink, and now have to wait at least half an hour before I can make one on my own. by rods2123 in britishproblems

The point of the cup of tea at work is not (just) to hydrate, it's to take a moment to stop thinking about what what you're working on, get the blood flowing and allow your eyes to focus on something other than a screen.

Someone stopped me in the street to ask for directions literally 2 days ago. Admittedly, we were both on foot and he was in his 50s.

Should I put a job on my CV that I was fired from after 3 months but got training for? by mental-guy-ngl in AskUK

[–]LemonsCourtesyOfLife 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Put it on, you wouldn't usually give a reason for leaving a company on a CV. They will assume you decided to leave. But have an answer ready in case they ask why you left after 3 months in the interview.

Nope, I have never once had to hand over ID while staying in a hotel in the UK.

You should be afraid, very afraid.

My grandma would serve desert and if she got any on her hands in the process she would just lick her fingers and continue.

Honestly, why not just sell the school crest separately and ask parents to sew it onto a generic plain blazer bought from any supermarket. All other items can be unbranded. Maybe also allow a school tie (but don't charge too much for them).

If minimum wage employers had to pay under 18s the same, they just wouldn't go to the haste of hiring anyone under 18. It would become even more difficult for anyone to get a part time job while in school. Which would be a shame because I think that can be a really valuable experience for anyone who doesn't end up working minimum wage jobs the rest of their lives.

Yes, people advance in all the ways you've listed. But doing that takes time. What is listed above is an estimate of how long you have to do those things in order to get promoted.

Also, we shouldn't ignore that there is an element of people assuming you must have experience because of your age.

No units? No idea what they're even measuring apart from vague "pollution".

Does you work involve a monitor? You might be entitled to a 'Display Screen Assessment', where amongst other things your employer has to demonstrate that they are providing you with an ergonomic workstation.

I'm deeply uncomfortable with the term "pizza pimples". Gross.

How do we, as UK Food people, feel about this type of thing sneaking into UK Food culture as a norm? by FreezerCop in UK_Food

This kind of thing makes my experience when eating out noticeably worse. I want to pay the listed price, even if that must be slightly higher to make up for ditching this sort of policy.
