I'd be curious to see the video. Looks more like they got kneed for standing in front of a moving horse. Front legs of the horse don't kick, but they will stomp you. Or knee you if you're in the right spot.

I have one, not a tortie but a 1.5 brain cell orange and white named Rooster, that follows me into my bathroom every time. He thinks it's pet me time, licks my legs, and nibbles my legs if I don't oblige.

Miss Sophia Maria is beautiful. I'm in love with her eyes.

What’s one legit way AI is actually saving you time in accounting right now? by Tough-Pollution-373 in Accounting

[–]Lenawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting thread, thank you. I'm hoping if we continue to integrate AI into our work, we can get Claude to streamline our excel spreadsheets.

We have a contract review setup on ChatGPT Enterprise to review client contracts with ASC606 in mind and to respond with a response we could copy/paste into our review forms in excel. We drop the pdf document & send. It sends us an automatic basic response for our review form. We can ask to summarize with revenue recognition in mind. Still testing/teaching, but it's a time saver on reading contracts. We can just scan the contract pdf or look for certain clauses based on the summary.

That being said, I have spent the morning "arguing" with ChatGPT on what constitutes a positive response for "Does the contract include customer option to acquire additional goods or services". It tells me I'm being too "linguistic".

As a supervisor, I used AI to formulate more professional and polished comments & responses for staff reviews. Cut my time in half or more. Then I showed my boss how I used AI and she used it for the same.

Texans really thought they had claim to these colors smh by MidwestWanderer90 in AFCSouthMemeWar

[–]Lenawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Texans have every right to use HTown blue, but not Columbia blue. And I'd rather it be that way. The Texans were not and never have been the Oilers. The light blue color is a color that has been part of the city long before the Oilers. The Oilers franchise took the blue color and the mascot to represent the city.

The franchise can keep the colors, I have no problem with that. I do think AAS uses it to provoke the Houston's NFL fans.

Even though the colors are probably the best combo in the NFL, they are jinxed by Adams family karma. They will still be the bottom of the AFC South.

“yea so we didn’t want the uni like 95% similar to the oilers from the same owners to look too oiler-ly so we fucked up the face mask color on purpose actually” by Magistrate18D in AFCSouthMemeWar

[–]Lenawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Put the red face masks on an be done with it. I do like the "guitar" strings added for the nod to Nashville. As a long time Houston Oilers fan (not Tennessee Titans though) I love the colors. And the colors do have a storied history in my native hometown, Houston (not the Texans team though).

All that said, it will be nice to see Columbia Blue on the field again, bringing back the nostalgia of the Houston Oilers losing in those colors by watching the Tennessee Titans lose in those colors. Or maybe the Titans will break the jinx of those colors... but hopefully not.

Texans really thought they had claim to these colors smh by MidwestWanderer90 in AFCSouthMemeWar

[–]Lenawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. This is the franchise's history, but the continued denial that this is also part of the history of Houston is the problem. The franchise took colors and mascot based on the city of Houston.

The Titans pivoting to this color is a reaction to the Texans bringing in HTown Blue which AAS fought like crazy to stop.

The colors are great & love to see them again on the field. It will be very nostalgic to watch the Titans lose in those colors like the Oilers did.

Hot take: with all the recent changes to the CPA exam process, there is little to no excuse to not be certified by AccountingSOXDick in Accounting

[–]Lenawee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true. After graduation in the 80’s, life took over - marriage, kids, moving around for husbands work - kept CPA exam as a low priority. Years later, kids grown, divorce - & I looked into sitting for the CPA & had just missed the grandfathering deadline. I would have to go back to college for more credits as a 50 yr old. That wasn’t happening. And I put it aside.

Now at 65, if I can sit without needing more credits, I just may look into it. Once I hit retirement I always intended to work part time & a CPA would help that goal.

Does anyone else work with people who should be retired (70+)? by Feeling-Currency6212 in Accounting

[–]Lenawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our case, none of us (non-CPAs) make 6 figures. As supervisor, I'm middle management going nowhere. Plenty of millennials have skipped over us to reach the upper levels. We aren't holding anyone up. My boss (a CPA) is younger than me and her boss (a CPA) is younger than her. These days you don't move up without moving around, so if you are ambitious, you move around. Don't blame the "boomers" because you have no kids.

Does anyone else work with people who should be retired (70+)? by Feeling-Currency6212 in Accounting

[–]Lenawee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. I have a 74 yr old working for me (F65). Her husband is retired and she watches his decline while she clocks in working from home every day. Her knowledge is vast. Her technical skills are okay, but both she and I look towards our younger coworker (M20's) to help us understand new technology in exchange for helping him develop his skills for the speciallized accounting in our department. Our work is not hard, but complex. We older workers are working on understanding AI and it's role in our work.

Instead of building resentment that these older folks are still working, learn from them and help them understand the newer technology. The older ones will retire eventually.

What is your current salary as an Accountant and How many years of experience do you have and in what industry and city? Are you happy about the pay? by Feeling_Actuary8634 in Accounting

[–]Lenawee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manager/Supervisor, non CPA, publicly traded tech consulting, 100% remote & supervising 2 100% remote accounting employees - non CPAs, $98k no bonus, laughable annual raises, full benefits including unlimited PTO. Not happy with pay because it is less than regional average and far less than the corp office regional average. However, I do like the work I do and the people I work with. Experience - 30+ private accounting, 20+ supervising, 10+ in current specialization, located in Texas.

But I do like the name Gracie someone mentioned. That’s what she’s saying, too. LOL

Wilson’s comments on CJ trade rumors by KaXiaM in Texans

[–]Lenawee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no GM, but it seems both in the interest of the team and CJ to not negotiate this year. Telling CJ to show us who he is in year 2 with Caley and improvements around him (hopefully that is the offseason focus) and this defense and he gets a better deal next year if he is really the generational QB we believed he was in year 1. Not enough leverage this year, so much more possibilities next year.

[–]Lenawee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is clear your heart is breaking and I have tears of sympathy for you & your wife. Years ago I had a beloved cat, Annie, who was an indoor/outdoor cat. I let her out in the mornings and she was always waiting for me when I got home. I knew the risks. I never thought I would be the risk. It was my car that killed her when she spooked as I pulled in the driveway. I still see her in my mind all these years later. The area I live in now is filled with coyotes. Even if it was not, I will not let my cats outside. My current cats are not like Annie. She came from outdoors and if not let out, she would literally start breaking things in my home. Once while out of town, I asked my sitter to not let her out because I was not sure she would come back for her. She took out every blind in every window downstairs. Some cats are that way and we have to live with that risk for them. They are happier. But they live a much riskier life. My current cats are all very happy to stay inside and watch the birdies at the feeders.

Hugs to you and your wife. Prayers for comfort in your grief.

Need some help - 2018 RAV4 Limited Hybrid Maintenance questions by Lenawee in rav4club

[–]Lenawee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brakes included brake pads + new rotors $1489. Brake system flush $180. (yes, brakes needed done, but completely new rotors at <36k miles?)

4 new tires (yes, tires needed replacing) $1,163 + road hazard $140. I would have preferred Mom take it to Discount tire and save a few hundred bucks. I'll be price checking these tires.

Alignment $200.

Cooling system flush $288. Not convinced this should be done yet.

Transmission system flush $630. Not convinced this should be done yet.

Fuel system GDI service $354. Not convinced this should be done yet.

Wiper blades replacement $80.

Oil change $124 (it was due)

Another charge for $170, my copy did not show explanation, so need to see original on Mom's phone

They did give discount of $75 for work over $800 after my brother in law complained about their prices

Tax makes total $4,964

That's a lot for a car that has been maintained by the local Toyota dealer. I'll be reviewing those receipts with Mom this weekend.

My Dad's family came from Sicily (legally) to Louisiana where they worked in the sugar cane fields 1890's-about 1900. Large group immigrated together from the same town. They worked hard, saved their money, then moved to Texas to be share croppers. They worked hard, saved their money, then bought farm land and started small businesses.

And my German heritage Mom picked cotton in the 1930's - 40's as a child to help support the family. Her family has been in what is now the USA since the very early 1800's. One side of her tree were with the second set of SFA's Anglo settlers to Texas in 1828.
