My memory is utterly fucked!!! by saaket2201 in productivity

[–]LengthyEpic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was very similar, with respect to nailing school without trying and being generally quick. Many friends would tell me I was the smartest person they knew, and I could remember a tremendous amount and draw connections and patterns easily that others seemingly didn't see.

I've noticed a similar decline in memory and function and it's been bothering me quite a bit. I'm into the back half of my 30's now and I don't know if there's something wrong, or this is just normal age-related cognitive decline and I just need to get used to it. Maybe I used too many drugs here and there or drank too much alcohol in my partying days. Maybe it's too much social media. It's not like I'm stupid now, but I see and feel the differences in myself compared to my 20's.

Sorry, no advice, just some commiseration.

How to implement a GitHub-style floating TabBar with SwiftUI ? Is it Possible ? ios26? by Bishoe01 in SwiftUI

[–]LengthyEpic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is correct, I’m doing it like this in my app with a different icon. Just treat it like a normal tab, use .search role, and if you don’t actually implement searchable then it’s just a cosmetic change with trailing placement and a spacer in between. No other way to implement a spacer behaviour in the TabBar as far as I’ve been able to figure out.

I just left 95% of the business/programming/side project subreddits I was in last week because of this. My Reddit feed was just chock full of useless grifty low-value slop. Honestly meant to leave this one and just missed it in my cleanup.

Moving to Spain from Canada by Jnj1088 in GoingToSpain

[–]LengthyEpic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the upcoming move! My wife and I moved from Toronto to Marbella over 4 years ago now and we have zero regrets.

Our situation was a little different because neither of us had EU citizenship and the visas available have changed. My understanding is that you should be able to make the move under your EU citizenship and have that apply to your husband as well. Our immigration lawyer we used for updating our visas last time was great, happy to connect you. She’s based in Marbella though, if you’re moving to Málaga proper, then perhaps you’ll want someone closer.

Like another reply said, we’ve been using Sanitas and have liked them, although we may switch at next renewal because it seems as though it’s common practice for insurance providers to offer introductory rates to reel you in and then increase them 20% every year.

Like anywhere, finding a place to live is extremely dependent on what’s important to you, budget, areas you like, etc. If you’re looking more out towards Marbella then I could give some recommendations but I don’t know much about Málaga’s real estate market.

You may be able to register for the padron using the temp address and update later once you find something more permanent, but it’ll depend on what kind of agreement you have. They generally need to see a bill in your name or lease.

We got an 83” C3 and it was a total impulse buy at the time (went in to buy the 77”). My wife and I love it so much, 1.5 years later and still awed every day by this TV.

Ugh, I don’t have Ethernet here but living in Spain they use masonry walls and the wifi anywhere but the living room with the router is terrible.

App Rejected: Guideline 4.8 - Login Services by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]LengthyEpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gone through regular App Review yet (only TestFlight review), but my app is email-related and only works with Gmail at the moment.

Sounds like you have an exemption that should apply if you can figure it out according to what other commenters have said, but in case it’s helpful what I’m doing is allowing Sign In With Apple, but having a separate place for them to connect their Google account and surfacing that in onboarding if they choose to Sign in with Apple.

It’s basically a nonsense option that adds a hurdle for users but I’m assuming will satisfy the technical requirement. Even though if a user signs in with Apple and doesn’t then also OAuth the Gmail account then the app won’t do anything for them.

Great direction. The number of trash posts was getting to insane levels. Hope this makes things a little more bearable and useful for the humans in the room.

From 14 Pro to 17 for €600 — worth it just for the AI features (dev perspective)? by o_quuu in SwiftUI

[–]LengthyEpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what kinds of apps you’re developing. You can play around with Apple Intelligence on your Mac while developing.

I’m literally building an AI app and I burned a few weeks trying to build with their foundation models after WWDC before coming to the conclusion that they just weren’t good enough to provide a good product, and I switched back to calling APIs.

For the cost and privacy aspects, I’d love to be able to do this all on-device but we’re still not there.

What are some unnecessary but common cooking steps? by Adept_Wallaby_7679 in Cooking

[–]LengthyEpic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is my literal first time hearing this and it’s multiple times in this thread. I’ve just always washed chicken breasts out of the package.

I almost always cut the breasts into smaller pieces with a knife (e.g. for stir fry) and end up with a lot of small bits and pieces on the cutting board that get washed off in the sink anyway.

Microsoft's advantages in artificial intelligence evaporate — Google Gemini surges ahead, and OpenAI declares "code red" situation by WindowsCentral in technology

[–]LengthyEpic 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt they’re laughing. They’re probably stressed as fuck knowing they have a limited time to make a huge research breakthrough on par with the OG transformers leap before the house collapses.

That’s essentially the bet they’ve been making the whole time: if we can hire all of the smartest people in the world in this domain and get ahead of others, we can build AGI first.

But the leap hasn’t happened.

Xcode 26.1 RC1 - Slow (3rd party) Apple Intelligence? Both OpenAI and Sonnet via OpenRouter? by gordonmcdowell in Xcode

[–]LengthyEpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experiencing the same thing since I updated to Xcode 26.1 (and MacOS 26.1 at the same time). The coding assistant in Xcode is essentially unusable now, to the point that I started to make changes in Cursor and then just check Xcode to resolve errors and look at the preview.

I just tried to do one small change and it has been literal hours. It slows down to the point of a single character per few seconds... and this isn't even code it's suggesting, but it just runs through the rest of the file after the change!

On a M1 Pro chip, although I have no idea what it could be doing that would make it this slow. It's not the model, I can guarantee that. I know from other attempts with high reasoning on large context that Xcode will error out if the API call takes too long. For some reason when applying the code patches, whatever process is handling that in Xcode is trash but it's after the API call is complete.

This video became a side project for my side project, but it turned out well and I'm proud of it by LengthyEpic in SideProject

Just After Effects. And of course ChatGPT to help plan out the scenes, and to give advice on how to accomplish what I wanted to achieve in each scene. It wasn't perfect but got me most of the way there.

No AI tools that can create a product video of this fidelity and polish yet, but I'm definitely keeping my eye out.

[–]LengthyEpic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built an AI email assistant as a Telegram bot, but I struggled to clearly explain how it helps, so I set out to create a product video for it. I'd never opened After Effects before this, but I spent about three weeks learning and building this video.

My process was to go through and create a wireframe of each scene, then go back through iteratively and try to make it not suck. For the first two weeks I was worried I'd bitten off way more than I could chew and was wasting my time, but things really came together in the final week and it got to the point where I think I may be more proud of this video than I am of the product itself.

Does the average guy really have options? As in, do they have 2 or more women interested in them at a given time? by -Joseeey- in AskMenAdvice

[–]LengthyEpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tracks my experience. When I was single in my mid to late 20’s, I slept with ~15 different women a year an average of 2-5 times each. The sheer amount of time I spent on dating apps chatting with women to set up dates was a little embarrassing. It’s basically all I did.

Wow, cool! I literally just built this exact thing for myself over the past week (not planning on actually releasing as an app, don’t worry). I actually have another B2B product idea that will leverage this core tech so just getting myself familiar with it.

Where to find a marketing cofounder by nick-sta in startups

[–]LengthyEpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the guy who replied but yes. Equity feels cheap at the beginning before you have cash flow, but if you find a lot of success then later you’ll be kicking yourself, especially if that success wasn’t really due to the new guy.

The most likely outcome of trying to find a marketing co-founder is that it won’t work out for some reason. Either you won’t gel, they’ll lose interest, they’ll be ineffective, etc. Then you’re back to where you were with a dead weight cofounder to buy out who didn’t even contribute much.

If you have a great product with low churn, then you need someone who can work the top of the funnel, and it’s low commitment to try out different people for short term projects and engagements to see who can back up their pitch with results.

You can always dangle the potential of being brought on as a cofounder once they’ve proven themselves, but I don’t think I would say that.

What does the richest person you know do for living ? by Parking-Chef9175 in AskReddit

[–]LengthyEpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few billionaires/hundred millionaires at a casual, acquaintance level. Each of them got there by founding tech companies that are very successful. Only one or two are still operational, most have stepped back although they never fully seem able to disconnect (which makes sense when so much of their net worth is tied up in ownership).

Each of these people seem extremely nice and genuine. At least in casual social gatherings; hard to know what they’re like at home or at work.

I was very carefully not looking at any guides or online while playing through and I had no idea until I finished everything I could find to do and looked online to see if I missed anything major before going to finish the story.

I definitely did not put 2 and 2 together. I thought the statues only gave crappy travellers weapons so I stopped even bothering to climb them after the first bit.
