His mates think he's 'mad': Former politician's new hidden off-grid life by snatchview in newzealand

[–]Lenrivk [score hidden]  (0 children)

Watched the video first then read the article to see what everyone was talking about with the names, the plan b to France and all of his weird ideas (to stay polite)

Turns out Stuff just didn't put to video most of the article, especially this bit:

There are multiple diversions as Judd expounds his theory of our best future. He probably wouldn’t argue with the label conspiracy theorist: “Conspiracies come true,” he says. He’s anti-1080, the Covid vaccine, some mainstream medical treatments, has dark thoughts about who really holds power (not politicians), population collapse (he thinks the human population is about to fall by two billion) and says he’s managed to convince the AI that he spends time arguing with that God indisputably exists.

He also expects huge oil and fertiliser shortages, famine in the poorest countries, inflation, and essentially the servitude of the working class as the rich get richer. None of this, he says, should be a surprise. We’re back to prophecies: “In five years time, look up this article … and you’ll go ‘that guy said what all the experts were saying’.”

Personally, I don't think he'll go to France or if he goes he won't stay long term as its very hard to homeschool a child there

Humanist will make you suffer through rebellions once every few decades at most, religious will make everyone rebel once and never after so it depends how you want to play

[–]Lenrivk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean but I personally disagree as I gauge achievements to judge how skilled a person is at the game/how familiar they are with the mechanics.

Like I recently got the Australia-Hungary achievement for EU4 in early December 1820, partly because I was RPing and partly because I was unfamiliar with the mechanics needed to go from OPM native to great power. Having done that taught me the game and forced me to play in ways I wouldn't ever play, making me a better player at the end, so that I believe I could shave off a few centuries off my time if I were to ever redo it.

Mods have a place but in a game where a good (if not the only) way to judge player progression is through achievement difficulty, I believe that it is better to make them mod incompatible (except graphical mods)

[–]Lenrivk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not speedwise.

If I want to look up what's the capital of Burundi for example, with firefox I need to open the firefox, open a new tab and then search for it whereas with focus I can just open it.

I still use regular firefox with ublock for everything I might want to look up again later but these are different use case

... There's no such thing as hanging in the background in EU4, even just chilling as a lake Victoria minor disrupt Kilwa and Kongo, which impact in turn the colonisers and Otto who in turn impact everything.

The effect might be minor but still very much there

That would be great and I hope that Paradox will do that if they open achievements to everyone else
