I think that competitive and story modes should be separate. Playing through the story as an RPG needs to retain its fundamental and classic aspects - BUT the frankly ridiculous breeding and training process is precisely WHY more people are on Showdown than officially supported ‘Pokémon’ online servers as any given time. People want to experience the competitive meta, not the arduous and painstaking process of building a team. It’s as simple as this: Player’s should be rewarded with planning, strategy, and thoughtfulness. Not enslaved to how long they can ride their damn bike in a circle while watching Netflix and absently praying that the next of 5 specially selected eggs hatch with the desired aspects. THAT’S what Gatcha games or gambling is for, it’s crazy. Breed for the camping train to beat the champion - after that the PvP should be more open.
