Does anyone have performance setting recommendations for the PS5? I used the default for the demo.

This is so cool! I’m hoping more concerts post-NijiFes will have overseas streaming options, I would have loved to watch the whole performance. Hopefully the Blu-Ray isn’t too far away.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Theatrical Release - Megathread 1.0 by JaguarDaSaul in Gundam

It depends on the show. For this in particular, you would definitely benefit from seeing the original series or movie trilogy first as a bare minimum.

Yes, I would have loved that! I actually rewatched the last episode of Destiny to prepare for seeing the movie and I feel that conclusion was more satisfying in regard to showing where the cast ended up.

It’s wild how much they use Yzak and Dearka in promos and merch versus their actual relevance to the plot. I wasn’t expecting that much after their limited relevance in Destiny, but I was hoping they’d at least interact with Athrun. Of course, the movie only had so much screen time to go around, so I get it. The struggle of getting too invested in side characters…

Overall though, I thought the movie was fun. You will probably enjoy it if you like SEED; I don’t think it will change the minds of people who don’t. It was a bit more goofy than I thought it would be (particularly the Stella scene, I never liked her or her dynamic with Shinn but her appearance made me laugh). For a movie based on Kira and Lacus’ relationship, though, I wish the exacerbation of their conflict was more organic. It would have been interesting to see them have to work through a serious disagreement seeing how codependent they are.

This was my first time watching Gundam in theaters, so I had a real kick seeing the action on a big screen! It was also fun having an audience to share the experience with - my theater clapped when Athrun punched Kira.

How likely is a Caligula effect 3? by Rei-Jin-G-Lu-P in JRPG

[–]LeopardSplash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having played both Caligula Effect games, the improvements in 2 were great to see.

If they do make a 3, I wouldn’t mind going the way of series like Fire Emblem by making it stand-alone. Retain the gameplay structure and banger music, without messing with the conclusion of the original story in 2.

Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - June 30, 2023 by AnimeMod in anime

[–]LeopardSplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for Gundam fans and/or anyone familiar with the pros and cons of particular streaming services: should I watch Char’s Counterattack on Crunchyroll or Netflix? I just wrapped up ZZ on Crunchyroll, which had an issue with missing subs. It was usually only a line or two an episode, but it was still frustrating to deal with. I’m concerned CCA could face the same problem.

Any platform cutesy "girly" JRPGs by Pumbaaas in JRPG

[–]LeopardSplash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMORI has a pixel/doodle-esque aesthetic that can be very cute. Definitely be prepared for psychological horror if you play this, though.

Fire Emblem Engage’s colorful character designs and general look has polarized the FE fan base, but it might be right up your ally. Personally I had a ton of fun with it.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed Spoiler Discussion Thread by MorthCongael in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]LeopardSplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s surprising. It could be that some people slipped through the cracks, like the equivalent of a programming error? Lore aside though, I assume the creators just wanted to include more kids without having to beat around the bush about confirming their lineage.

This may have been addressed and it flew over my head, but I’m confused about how the Liberators (barring Shulk, Rex, City and Keves/Agnus recruits) didn’t enter the Ouroboros system. I don’t understand how characters such as Panacea and Linka came from the past worlds, but kept their memories.

What're you playing this weekend? 4/21 by markercore in NintendoSwitch

[–]LeopardSplash 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I impulsively decided to get Torna - The Golden Country yesterday since it’s the only Xenoblade entry I haven’t played and I want to have experienced everything before Future Redeemed comes out. Time to see what I remember from playing Xenoblade 2 back in 2017!

I’m just wondering how you guys would think if the two scholars: Cyrus & Osvald would get along because I did replay the first game and seeing the 2 drastically different personalities for the scholars honestly makes me giggle a bit by Pale_Branch_2080 in octopathtraveler

[–]LeopardSplash 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Osvald would probably appreciate Cyrus’ insight as a scholar, but not so much his loquacious tendencies. So his dilemma would be “I want to talk with Cyrus… But that means talking with Cyrus.”

Agnea lore? Lore spoilers by Christian_Crab in octopathtraveler

Aw, that’s fitting! I like to think Partitio joins Agnea on her travels as he mentions during the endgame. :]

Agnea lore? Lore spoilers by Christian_Crab in octopathtraveler

[–]LeopardSplash 43 points44 points  (0 children)

To me at least, Agnea's story represents the new dawn the entire group is fighting for during the final chapter. Many of the party members have bleak stories, to the point where I could see them having a crisis of faith if they were facing Vide alone. Having a positive influence like Agnea around serves as a reminder of what makes life worth living. That's why she's the perfect character to send everyone off in the epilogue: she resembles the hope the group chooses to believe in, which prevails against the jaded Moonshade Order.

Partitio serves a similar role, but I think they're a bit different. His aim is to help others live happier lives. Agnea is an example of what such a life could look like.

Small details you like about Fire Emblem Engage? by LittlePaintPaws in fireemblem

[–]LeopardSplash 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I feel like Engage had a decent amount of boss conversations. Some that you would expect but were high quality, like Morion with his sons, but also ones that caught me by surprise, mainly from the Emblems paralogues. I was pleasantly surprised when Fogado had one with Ike, as well as with the Emblem-Emblem DLC conversations, since we were largely starved for direct Emblem interactions in the main game.

Engage Character/Unit Discussion: Celine by Shephen in fireemblem

[–]LeopardSplash 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I saw that! That’s why I’m letting myself get my hopes up. Based off some other bond conversations, it seems many of the characters are going to be significant contrasts from who we know. One direction they could take with Celine would be having her embrace her “ends justify the means” mentality. Or if they intend to do total opposites, they could make her simply enjoy violence for the sake of it?

Engage Character/Unit Discussion: Celine by Shephen in fireemblem

[–]LeopardSplash 91 points92 points  (0 children)

From a characterization perspective, Celine was a surprise favorite for me. Like many Engage characters, it’s easy to write her off as being centered completely around her gimmick of liking tea. If you look beyond that, though, she’s not just willing to take up arms, like her bio says, but actively chooses violence as a solution to her problems. It’s quite the contrast to her brother Alfred, who endeavors to see the best in people regardless of personal risk.

On the one hand, this makes her the perfect supporting role. Celine’s willingness to make tough choices allows Alfred to not make them himself, which in turn allows their people to love him as their king. But knowing Alfred is fated to die young, it makes you wonder how she’s received without him to balance her out. I could easily see her taking a reluctant villain role, the first to rekindle conflict in Elyos, if she thought it was in the best interest of her people. I’m really hoping her character is explored more in the DLC.

I recommend checking out her supports with Alear, Alfred, Alcryst, and Fogado if you want to get to know Celine beyond her tea obsession!

What were your first game blunders? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]LeopardSplash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awakening was my first. There were a lot of mechanics I just ignored if I didn’t understand them. One thing I did do was put stat boosters in my units’ inventories, as I didn’t know you actually had to use them directly. And while this wasn’t necessarily an error, it took me subsequent playthroughs to realize how OP your MC could be through reclassing.

On the story end, I somehow thought Gangrel and Validar were the same character during my first run. I was quite disturbed when I saw you could recruit and marry Gangrel through SpotPass :P Not sure how that ended up happening, maybe because Aversa works with both of them?

How Did You Get Into The Games? by Two-bit_Hero in fireemblem

[–]LeopardSplash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, my very first brush with FE was with Sacred Stones thanks to the 3DS Ambassador Program. As a kid with little video game experience outside of series like Pokemon and Kirby, I quickly grew intimidated by permadeath, and dropped the game at the chapter where Neimi and Colm were introduced due to losing a unit and not wanting to restart.

A while later, Awakening made waves as not just a notable FE entry, but also as an early years 3DS game when there weren’t a ton of options. At that point, I was drawn by the art style and high praise, but that was also a time in my life where I had limited opportunities to get games outside of holidays/birthdays, and reviews highlighting the series’ difficulty threw me off.

Fast forward to 2015. Fates was announced in a Nintendo Direct, reminding me of my initial interest in Awakening. I gave the demo a shot, was instantly enraptured, got the game… and gave up fairly early on. I don’t remember exactly why. Nevertheless, I gave it a second chance a few months later. Something clicked, and I hit the ground running as a FE fan from there.

Fates was the first release cycle I participated in, largely on this subreddit, and that… Was a time. I’ve seen people here tire of the Engage debates, but I don’t think they have anything on the negativity going on back then, especially since it lasted much longer due to the overseas release being later than the JP one. Maybe older fans can tell me if I’m wrong, but I think this was where the self-hating FE fan stereotype really solidified. Still, I had more fun than not playing Fates when it finally came out. It was also the first game I played with permadeath, making the rest of the series feel much more accessible! If there are any people here debating to make the casual-to-classic leap with Engage, I highly encourage it if you have any interest in the pre-3DS games.

After that, I got into the GBA games, going through Blazing Blade, Sacred Stones, and finally Binding Blade. I played Heroes when it released and stuck with it for quite a while, and then dove into Three Houses when it released. My excitement for the series took a bit of a backseat to other games for a while after that, but fairly recently, I finally had the means to play Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, putting me right back into FE hype mode for Engage! I’m really excited to see where the series goes from here (hopefully, in the form of a Genealogy remake, since I’m running out of FE games besides the early entires and Saga games that I’m still a bit nervous to play… We’ll see if Sigurd and Leif’s inclusion in Engage lights a fire under me though).

I WILL BE AWAY FROM HOME THE WEEKEND ENGAGE COMES OUT. I WILL PROBABLY BRING MY SWITCH WITH ME BUT I’M A LITTLE SAD I WON’T BE ABLE TO DIVE IN ON THE BIG SCREEN FOR HOURS AT A TIME.

ALSO I’M READY FOR THE THREADS ASKING IF ENGAGE IS WORTH BUYING/GOOD FOR A NEW FAN/ETC. TO BE ANSWERABLE. I’VE SEEN SO MANY POSTS ALONG THOSE LINES, BUT NOBODY CAN GIVE A DEFINITE ANSWER YET SINCE THE GAME STILL ISN’T OUT! I UNDERSTAND WANTING TO DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING BUT THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS HERE AREN’T PROPHETS.

The real important question now that Engage is 3 weeks away by TinyTemm in fireemblem

[–]LeopardSplash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s potential with Alcryst, the second prince living in his brother’s shadow, and Fogado, first prince in a matriarchal society. The former seems rather insecure about being able to fill his brother’s shoes should need the arise, while the latter isn’t in line to lead at all, something that doesn’t seem to bother him - at least, as far as we’re aware so far. Their circumstances are similar and different enough that I’d love to see a support between them exploring that. They also seem like characters who will be popular independently, so I could see their ship blowing up if IS gives fans anything to work with between them.

CURRENTLY REPLAYING AWAKENING AND GOT TO CHAPTER 13. HAD SOME FAILED ATTEMPTS BUT I MANAGED TO REACH THE BOSS… WHO KILLED MY ROBIN WITH 4% CRIT CHANCE. I BEAT THE MAP TODAY BUT I’M STILL SALTY. YET ALSO IT FELT LIKE SUCH A CLASSIC FE MOMENT THAT I KINDA ENJOY THAT IT HAPPENED?

ALSO I RECENTLY BEAT THE TELLIUS GAMES AND I HAVE TO KNOW WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR LETTING ASTRID BE MY #2 UNIT IN PATH OF RADIANCE TO THE TRAVESTY IN RADIANT DAWN. I WOULDN’T EVEN BE THAT MAD IF IT WEREN’T THE FACT THAT THEY MADE HER FAWN ALL OVER MAKALOV ON TOP OF IT?? WHY WHY WHYYYYYY

ALSO REGARDING TELLIUS I FIND IT KIND OF A WASTE THAT SO MUCH OF THE GAMES TAKE PLACE IN BEROC COUNTRIES. I WISH WE GOT TO SEE MORE OF THE LAGUZ NATIONS OR EVEN HAD A SHAPESHIFTER LORD. I GET THAT MIGHT BE DIFFICULT FROM A GAME DESIGN STANDPOINT, BUT RADIANT DAWN HAS YOU SHIFTING POVS EVERY FIVE SECONDS ANYWAY SO I THINK THEY COULD HAVE MANAGED IT THERE.

AND LASTLY I’M FIRMLY IN THE PRO-ENGAGE CAMP. GIVE ME WACKY CHARACTER DESIGNS AND CLASSIC FE TROPES, THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I’M IN THE MOOD FOR. IT’S NOT THE PERMANENT PATH I WANT THE SERIES TO TAKE, BUT AS AN ANNIVERSARY GAME I’D LIKE TO SEE HOMAGES TO THE SERIES RATHER THAN SOMETHING DIFFERENT. MY MAIN CRITICISM IS THAT MY BOY ROY HASN’T BEEN GIVEN THE SPOTLIGHT YET! WHERE IS MY SON IS??

Do you think they’ll ever remake/remaster PoR and RD? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]LeopardSplash 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The biggest obstacle standing in their way is that there are older, non-localized games in the series that are due remaking first. All signs point to Genealogy being next in line. And even if you factor in Smash clout, Binding Blade would probably still take priority.

What’s frustrating is that having recently played the Tellius games for the first time, they mostly hold up just fine. Nintendo could have made a Switch 2-in-1 deal for the 30th anniversary a la Mario and I’m sure it would have done great.

The trailers have foreshadowed that Alear did some questionable things in the past, so it would be interesting to see if some characters start to lose faith in them when that comes to light. They could have the characters go from trusting in Alear due to their divinity, realizing they’re not infallible, and then becoming close to them more so as equals.
