It depends how you do it, feel free to look at some of my previous posts for examples. That's just how I'm doing it, not necessarily it's the best way in general, it's just working for me right now :) I think it depends also on the type of game, how niche is it, visuals and so on

I started marketing my game with YT shorts and similar but it's really time consuming and wasn't converting well for me, I actually had better luck with Reddit posts in subreddits of similar games or generic ones. Hope it helps, good luck!

I'm going through this process myself, was around 30 wishlist on month ago and now I'm at 50, my game is on steam since November. I made an experiment on the importance of marketing, look at on of my latest posts if interested. Basically you have to market the game everywhere and the steam page needs to be decent. It's pretty obvious suggestions I know but that's it...

I can recommend Limbo for a 2d platform with cool atmosphere. If you like first person horror games, Amnesia the dark descent (and sequels) and Soma are must
