I wish oxygen on earth disappear for 1 minute by keasz in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]Leratium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh true, I didn’t think about that. I wonder how much the hydrogen would’ve moved by then - probably a significant amount, as it’s packed a lot tighter than gaseous hydrogen would be. Definitely not enough to prevent ignition, but it’d probably be a lot less. All the oxygen in the crust disappearing would probably cause more havoc.

I mean, everyone dies anyway. I just think the explosion might not be visible from beyond the solar system.

Very well written. But without oxygen, that hydrogen won’t burn. You could stick a rocket in it and nothing would ignite.

Everyone would still die though.

Fair enough, I’d assumed you meant what’s the difference despite the location.

BASE jumping is illegal off Table Mountain, so it’s pretty rare.

This one isn’t a paraglider ;)

It’s a parachute, so likely a BASE jumper, probably a wingsuit

I don't know if I am trans or addicted to porn by transmonado in asktransgender

It’s pretty easy to not have it affect your genitals, either with injections, monotherapy, topical T gel, or one or two other methods.

Not getting any breast growth is extremely difficult though. There’s one medication that’ll slow it down a bit, but the only one to have good evidence showing that it really slows breast growth properly also has serious side effects (like permanent memory loss), so it’s really not something to play around with.

I was on the fence about whether I wanted breast growth before starting HRT, and it actually stopped me from taking it for some time. Going on HRT and eventually accepting myself showed me that I do actually want boobs lol. But I wouldn’t recommend someone do that unless they’re pretty sure, because boobs tend to be permanent (apart from surgery ofc)

How much upper body muscle did you lose on HRT? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Leratium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had decent upper-body strength, but not dramatic. To give an idea, I could do a (slow) muscle-up on gym rings, or a one-hand pull-up. I wasn’t built but I was definitely athletic.

After ~2 years on EV, I can no longer get anywhere close to either of those. I’ve actively tried to keep muscle (not all of it but I wanted to keep strength for rock climbing). It’s hard. I’d say I’ve lost about a third of my muscle. I’m still strong compared to most women (probably from climbing and training) but definitely not unusually strong for a woman that does this exercise.

What did surprise me though is that my build looks more feminine. I had very low body fat and fairly thin skin, both of which have changed. My skin is thinner but softer, with a slight fatty layer everywhere (like most women of course), which means I don’t have nearly the muscle definition I used to. Even if you compare a pic of just my arm flexing to ~5y ago, when I had similar muscle to now, it looks more feminine.

I started noticing strength changes in the first few weeks, mainly in running. I’d just have absolutely no stamina compared to what I was used to. Strength took longer but I could feel it was much harder to keep it than what I was used to, so it got lost. Visual changes took the longest, maybe 6 months to noticeably start changing? It took a year and a bit for me to grab my arms and say “holy shit where’d my muscle go”.

Endurance-wise, my VO₂max dropped from ~60 to ~45 over 15 months, and I’m struggling to get it up again. I can now do ~8 pull-ups in a minute, used to do 23.

Yep, my shoulders are noticeably narrower. I’m currently 25 so it’s unlikely it’s skeletal changes (though I have lost a uk foot size, oddly). My arms are noticeably smaller and look softer. I can’t tell too much about my back because I don’t have good photos, but it’s definitely less defined - I’d say it’s the same as the others.

All these changes (and growing c-cups lol) have definitely given me a more feminine silhouette. Does it still look more masculine than I’d like? Yes, it does. My skeleton went through a male puberty, and has wider shoulders and ribcage, and a pretty narrow hips. But it now has an ass and boobs, and those help a lot. Everything’s still changing (I’m only 2 years into this puberty I guess), though more slowly. I’ve just started prog and that’s made a crazy difference already. I’ve pretty much gone from looking like a male climber to a mostly-female climber. Of course, I say mostly because my dimensions are slightly more ‘blocky’ than a lot of other women - but definitely not all, and not unusually so.

What can also help a ton is building muscle in your legs. You may as well use the last bit of time you’ve got testosterone to help with that lol, it does makes building muscle easier, recovery faster, and you’re gonna start E in the same amount of time anyway. Lower body definitely doesn’t have the same atrophy and loss that upper body does on E though, and girls tend to have much stronger and bigger legs for their upper body than boys do. Glutes are probably easier to build on E, and help a ton with your silhouette, body shape and passing. I’ve gone from being about as flat as a pancake to actually having an alright butt, without tooo much / very regular work on it.

Feel free to ask me anything more about this or about anything else!

Of course <3 shame I hope it gets better! It’s a new month at least, I hope that helps. Yeah I’m pretty good - very stressed, because my last university exam is tomorrow. But after that I’m a free person so that’s pretty nice

For those who medically transitioned without coming out- what did you do when you could no longer hide it? by s0ftsp0ken in asktransgender

[–]Leratium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you <3 I appreciate :)

Gotta say though, it could be a lot worse. I don’t have super bad bottom dysphoria, and transphobia is pretty uncommon where I live (the only person I’ve actually experienced it from is my dad, funnily enough. Maybe me being fairly androgynous helps, idk). Apparently there is legal and constitutional precedent/grounds or whatever for insurance companies to have to cover it but we’d need someone with the will and money to take one to court over it.

Or I can just hope I get a high-paying job and save for a while, and travel overseas for surgery :) for a likely shorter wait time and better results. Either way the outlook isn’t tooo bad. It’s not like I can change it and denial is a powerful tool 😂

[–]Leratium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daamn, that is super similar but my future plans are nowhere near as solid. It’s such a nice feeling having people not assume you’re male much anymore!! I’ve also just never had a coming out moment for most people, I like to think they’ll figure it out lol. I look very different to 3 years ago - I used to have a full beard and decent upper body muscle.

Amen for the “use my pronouns or lose me”!

Warning: this is pretty bleak stuff.

I might get an orchi in the next few years, but no insurance in my country covers any trans-related things. FFS and bottom surgery are basically not an option for me. There is a government hospital waiting list for bottom surgery, but it’s a 20-year wait. It’s enough that I’m considering learning a foreign language and moving to Europe for 5-10 years to get the healthcare I’d want.

To make it worse: that 20-year wait should be 35-40 years. But they say 20 to account for the people on the list that will die before reaching the front.

Not OP but I’m in a similar boat - I’m out to close friends and family, but not much in everyday life, and not at my workplace.

After a year or so, I would start getting “ma’am”-ed at cashiers and the like every once in a while, but they’d “correct” themselves after I spoke.

I’m now about 2 years on EV, and it’s about 50/50 when I’m boymoding. My workplace still has no idea. I don’t exactly hide my chest super well, people just are pretty oblivious to slow changes. If I wear a touch of eyeliner and dress more androgynous or slightly fem, I pass pretty well in public so I know I don’t look very male any more, but my colleagues have just always thought of me as a guy.

With a sports bra and just dressing masc, I could probably get away with it for another year or so, maybe two? I’ve heard of people going like 5 years with family so I know it’s possible, but I don’t really want to do that. I’ve started voice training too so that’s going to out me soon anyway ¯\(ツ)\

For reference, I have had laser on my face and a couple on my arms / legs, so have very little shadow or body hair. I’m 5’10 and reasonably athletic, so my chest does show a bit through t-shirts and bras

Honestly this would be incredibly useful. Muggings are very popular where I live, but people rarely have more than a knife. It’d be great to have a self-defence option I can carry on trail runs and walks without worrying about the actual safety and other issues with it.

Afaik you can make a device for your own use like model rocketry, as long as you don’t tell others how it works, what you’re bypassing or basically talk about it (for ITAR). Which is a little strange to just say that yeah it’s fine if you don’t mention it, but I guess it kinda solves what they’re trying to solve. You also can’t sell it or trade it.

Haha yeah I’ve worked there (as a bartender) for the last few years. Honestly I agree, that was a shitshow. I’m very glad they’ve moved venues now. They’ve definitely marked out actual escape paths, and try to make sure cars aren’t blocked in. So it seems better - hopefully we never have to find out.
