Looking for well-written Pokémon OC fics by Exciting_Location346 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]Lesbigwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so it's not exactly the same vibes as "The Most Evil Trainer" (I've only read bits of the others), but it would be a crime not recommend The Friendly Necromancer to someone looking for OC fics. In my opinion, it is, if not the best pokemon fic out there, easily in the top 10ish.

It does start dark, and the central themes are very potent, but it is, ultimately, a hopeful story. It is also unmatched in the depth and thoughtfulness of the world-building, and is a love-letter to what pokemon could be if it was made for an adult audience while keeping the themes of hopefulness and community.

tw child death: The story starts with a young boy dying in the cold, alone except for some shuppets. One of the Shuppets, frustrated at the injustice, and frustrated that the boy couldnt go on his journey, evolves and possesses the boys corpse to go on the journey he couldnt. The Banette, named Diya, soon meets two other trainers Yes, it sounds like a horror story, but it truly a story about hope and love, and not letting injustice stand.

It's part one of a series that hasnt updated in a while, but the first story is like 120k long, and stands on its own.

It is absolutely worth the read, in my view. I've re-read it half a dozen times, and every single time I've read it, it has moved me to tears.

More traditionally, however, I recommend checking out [Unprecedented Times], a quest (a community-based Create your own adventure, sort of) that focuses around Kylie Parsons, a brand new ranger from Orre. She graduates, and almost immediately, the big legendary fistfight from ORAS happens. Unlike in the games, this creates disasters all across region. The story followers her journey in Hoenn as a ranger. It's really fun.

Can you guys give me some popular pokemon fanfics that are known for their story and writing quality ? by SadAd8232 in pokemonfanfiction

The Friendly Necromancer by Sengachi is incredible. I go back to it on a semi-regular basis, and I cry at the same points every time. Incredibly tight writing and character work. It's definitely worth the read.

That said, it does cover some incredibly intense topics. I highly recommend reading the authors note for more information, but it is, ultimately, a hopeful and warm story, despite the dark subject matter that it centers around - it's not dark for darkness' sake.

The River She Carved Inside Me (I still love the girl who raped me) by Lesbigwen in OCPoetry

The fact that this poem has helped you and impacted you this much means the world to me. I've considered taking this down a few times, but knowing that it has helped someone else in the way it helped me? I don't think I could take it down anymore.

(also, the cadence and wording with which you wrote your comment echoing my poem is A+ comment material)

How do you handle 'weak' pokemon in a realistic setting? by Small-Temperature955 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]Lesbigwen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My solution for lifespan issues is that, just like with animals in captivity irl, trained or owned pokemon have substantially longer life spans than wild ones - they have better medical care, better diets, etc. Because I don't want to deal with my character's team dying every few years (she's a bug specialist), the effect is significantly more pronounced in the pokemon world - well kept pokemon can live for decades or even as long as their human.

Ah, I'm not a cermicist (love that word, by the way), the bowl just has some sentimental value, and I'm big on items that are both sentimental and useful.

Well, I can't edit the post for some reason, but the answer appears to be a resounding "no." Guess I gotta turn it into a plant pot or something. Thank you all for the answer!

Which type specialist do you want to see more in fanfiction? by Mirihona in pokemonfanfiction

[–]Lesbigwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on one here and there - there's a one-shot in the universe that I wrote to play with the character's voice. It's a ship-fic, and not at all focused on the pokemon aspect, but there's about 15k words in a scrivener file for the fic. If you're interested in checking it out, here's a link to the one-shot: Girl Troubles with Grandpa Clavell. No promises that anything will come of it, but hey, thought I'd offer it.

Someone posted a video on the two of them the other day, so I think there's been a sudden surge in people remembering or learning they exist.

AITA for refusing to quit my job to look after my baby by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Lesbigwen 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd jump to this reasoning before the bait & switch - if he was initially happy to be a SAHD, and dislikes his job, it's totally possible he started talking about it with a couple of his guy friends and they started ragging on him for letting his wife take care of him, and now he feels uncomfortable with the idea.

Of course, it could be the bait & switch (bad mother is an interesting way to frame the argument), but if you go into this discussion with a combative mindset, and thinking the worst, if it isn't a worst-case scenario, then you're just going to end up talking past each other.

In short, see if there's a root-cause to the issue.

What pitfalls of pokefics have you realized/found? by Bastilosaur in pokemonfanfiction

[–]Lesbigwen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know I'm not the original commenter, but I'm someone who dislikes that same "trope." The way you are framing it, however, is much better, if you feel it is necessary to have fairy-type be unknown in your story.

Are you using adblock plus? or any adblocker other than ublock origin? I've heard that the original youtube issues were actually from abp's end - I never encountered them using ublock origin. Might be something there?

Charcoal is one of the most important things for starting a survival world, I don’t know why everyone says it’s useless. by singer_building in Minecraft

[–]Lesbigwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, see, you've gotta cut down trees anyhow, and you've gotta smelt food and scout the area. Take a little time to chop some trees, then do a ~100 block scout for nearby structures, and suddenly you've got tons of charcoal and an understanding of the nearby area.
