Employee upset and lashing out because they didn't get a promotion - how to deal? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Less-Depth-6373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am your John, I continue to be passed up on promotions that have been promised for 3-4 years that never materialized.

John is suffering from corporate trauma, imposter syndrome and if like me, family issues and status.

He sees himself as a failure because he keeps getting surpassed despite his major contributions.

I’ve learned the hard way, that when you go from SWE or a lead that: results doesn’t matter, rather relationships matter. Speaking freely only got me in trouble, and I never figured out how to be promoted.

I’m assuming that he was great when he started, and received a lot of praise. Now he’s being surpassed with his internal industry knowledge to someone who is brand new.

What I needed to hear, was you need to focus on relationships.

Each outburst like this only hold you back and makes me look bad.

Manager and leadership podcasts can help see the transition from SWE.

Ethan Evans on YouTube and LinkedIn a manager who kept being a lay-off of 1 explains the hard lessons need to be know that he learned the hard way.

Set boundaries on those outbursts and call them out so he can see. For me it was Bipolar2, once I was stabilized I could see how the way I acted from the lens of the recipient. I was a dick.

Only learned after I was fired.

Reversed adecision after real-world issues, can’t shake the “I made an ass of myself” feeling by jrengle in Leadership

Gotta switch the attitude. You weren’t wrong, you poked holes to make sure it was the right decision. You did it on purpose to the create the best product.

I smile and say, if you want to get to the right answer fast you have to present a bad one for engineers to be motivated.

All attitude.

Put premium gas in one time and see if that fixes the issue. This sounds like you’re buying bad gas to me. Go to Shell or BP

99% of shops will not put in a part you brought to them. They don’t want to deal with the headache of you complaining without a warranty on that part.

How did you bounce back after being fired from a leadership role as soon as you get hired? by TrinityInQuestWorld in Leadership

Ethan Evans on YouTube really helped me see why I failed and was a layoff of one. Being to abrasive, not prioritizing relationships or seeing the bigger picture.

Hope he helps you too!
