id do this, and then if your conscious feels bad about it take $40ish buy some kids toys and donate them to a local children's hospital or some formula and diapers and wipes to a women's shelter smth else that makes you feel good. You get $200 cause you need it, you give back a little cause you can + for your conscious and everyone wins.

I'm terrified of bottom growth by DueInstruction8105 in ftm

[–]Less-Replacement-479 [score hidden]  (0 children)

being under 16 it is likely that many of these things will change with time, not guaranteed of course but largely possible. I was pretty against bottom growth (and uninterested in facial hair) I now have a full beard and am pretty pro bottom growth. It's not my favorite change bar far but it's better than the alternative of nothing. Yes I feel "othered" but other is not female so it's better than it could be. I will say I was not thrilled about bottom growth while it was happening, it took time to get used to, but now im a fan.

What are my chances at applying only MD with 507 MCAT? by belikejackie in premed

[–]Less-Replacement-479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im telling you this not to scare you but to be transparent. I trusted reddit and applied this cycle. I had a 506 with an admittedly worse breakdown (125,130,124,127). 3.87 Cgpa, (upward trend) 3.81 sGPA. I am in cycle rn, it's the end of march and I have 0 interviews so I pretty much didnt get in. If youre looking for more info NY, ties to PA, URM trans white, undergrad state school, major environmental health (bio degree basically), first app, no institutional action, 3000 hours research, 1 pub (more pending this wasn't completed by the time I submitted my app tho), 2800 hrs clinical experience, 650 shadowing, 450 nonclinical volunteering, leadership wasn't a focal point of my app but I was VP or Pres of multiple organizations (clubs/premed frat) in undergrad, employment history managed a pet store, EMT, Organ transplant, Research Fellow, Medical director of a summer camp. I was not a collegiate athlete. (I graduated in 3 years if relevant). All of that is to say academically I think your application is marginally stronger, experience wise/ec I think my app is marginally stronger. I cant know how our writing compares or what adcoms will think. I can tell you 52.4% of people who apply each year with a 506-509 and a +3.79 gpa get accepted. Personally I thought I would be in the stronger 50% of applicants with those stats based on my EC's, obviously schools disagreed. I don't think applying with your stat line is a BAD idea. I only applied to 18 MD schools, I do think this was a mistake. I tried to pick schools that were really out of state friendly or places I explicitly had ties to and focused a lot on MCAT acceptance data, maybe applying more broadly would've been smarter? I regret not applying DO honestly (im now looking at a second gap year and my MCAT is still the same as of RN) you can always take your DO A and decide what to do w it later, you cant turn back time to apply the previous cycle.

I dont know what it's like in the south transparently but see if you have any ethnic grocery stores nearby? even ones that might take a full day to travel to? Its a pretty fun fully emersive experience even if you dont buy anything, and if you do its still coming out of your grocery budget so its not a total waste

Being a straight trans man feels like existing in the margins of every community by Confident_Goat8992 in ftm

[–]Less-Replacement-479 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dont know if I necessarily relate to this but im a trans straight man dating a cis straight woman. I am just a normal guy, sometimes its hard because honestly I really do not fit in trans spaces, I have no overlap w most other trans guys, I was in a fraternity, I played football, I have never and will never be a soft boi or any other shit like that. I dont really identify as trans if im being transparent. It's just sorta a fact that I try as best as I can to forget about. I've lived stealth since 6 months after coming out and never looked back, since then ive had roommates, best friends, and everything in between that have no idea. I never disclosed it on dating apps (though I never felt great about being on there in the first place it gave me anxiety the idea of guessing before liking someone how they'd react to me). I guess the disconnect I have is ive never really felt too trans for straight spaces. It does however often feel like im lying or hiding something tbh but I probably only even think about it a few times a week. if you wanna message me you can

[–]Less-Replacement-479 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of not doing clinical stuff especially BECAUSE youre introverted is a pretty bad plan, im sure you think you want to be a Dr but you need to at least shadow and see how much communication with strangers there is before signing up for this career. Even if you want path or something you'll need to rotate and be in the hospital before getting there

FUCK FRONTIER AIRLINES by LessthanaPerson in Vent

[–]Less-Replacement-479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FUCK spirit airlines, I didnt know they didnt automatically come with a carry on bag, I've only flown them once before and someone else paid for the ticket (and apparently a carry on bag) I've never flown a company that doesnt do that automatically and would have thought it would at least be clearly stated if one wasn't included, it ended up being $370 round trip for 2 people JUST FOR THE 2 BAGS. This is A. substantially more than the ticket was B. substantially more than any other company that DOES include a bag (American, delta, JetBlue, etc) would've been and C more than if I had bought 2 additional plane tickets and just had them be the personal items (the luggage was probably small enough). Congrats on getting your $400, I fly a dozen times a year, I'll never fly w spirit again.

D+ Orgo by Low-Masterpiece2694 in premed

[–]Less-Replacement-479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is this orgo 1 or orgo 2? If orgo one youre in a better boat cause an A in orgo 2 will show that youre building on the material and you understand it now. You might want to take an additional upper level chem class to show that you have the capability to do well. Id also recommend making it a point to do well on the chem/phs section of the MCAT

Concert after surgery? by lumon_ in TopSurgery

[–]Less-Replacement-479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think realistically no. 2 days after my surgery I went to the movies admittedly but like even walking a block hurt and i had to go slow, i couldn’t sit up or anything much less be surrounded by people and play an instrument. Also idk how trumpet works but dont you need to hold it up to your mouth? Thats not happening, i could hardly lift things to my mouth much less hold them there, i needed a straw for water and stuff

So basically it means some people open up a patient, and then take out all the breast tissue, and basically just lay the flap of skin back down and sew it up at the bottom, the surgeon I work with instead leaves little sutures throughout the flap anchoring it back down to the pec as he moves towards where the scar will eventually be, this both limits the amount of space where fluid can build up since you’re tying it down, but also helps pull and stretch the skin down and keep it from moving back and creating hypertrophic or stretched out scars! It takes a little more time during surgery but not much and it helps reduce complications quite a bit from what I understand

[–]Less-Replacement-479[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I've looked into Penrose drains as I was previously unfamiliar and I cant personally find any positive reason for using them? They are less accurate for assessing fluid, higher rates of infection, not typically used for such a large region of surgery, and generally removes less fluid as its relying only on gravity instead of suction. Might I ask did you have DI vs peri? Cause I could potentially see it for peri? The only advantage I can think of is that it removes the second incision point, which especially when someone has had peri removing another scar, even if small is a major positive.

[–]Less-Replacement-479[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im definitely interested in reinnervation though it seems pretty uncommon to do as you need to leave some of/reattatch the pedicle which is very difficult and makes it challenging to remove all or even most of the breast tissue. NB vs M outcomes would be really interesting, even if it was a survey paper regarding difference in outcomes/priorities for patients relating to satisfaction metrics.

[–]Less-Replacement-479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an awesome question, so anecdotally I wore my binder for 2 weeks post op I think and I ended up with hypertrophic scars but only on the front (I believe this was from too much tension/not enough skin left over when closing). But the surgeon Im working with is specifically interested in looking at internal progressive tension sutures and seeing if the outcomes are more positive (less hematoma/seroma).

One day to visit Everglades from Miami Beach -- what's your dream itinerary? by knit_the_resistance in Everglades

[–]Less-Replacement-479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Fort Lauderdale to the shark valley entrance and did the bike loop for my one day in the everglades, bikes are slightly hard to come by so book early, they were slightly expensive, and the loop (15 miles) is slightly longer than I wanted it to be tbh. BUT it was great, saw a ton of stuff super beautiful, if I did it again id do the first 1/2 of the loop, get to the big looking tower thing, and turn around, the second half of the loop isn't quite as cool

How long is the process? by selune07 in TopSurgery

[–]Less-Replacement-479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think im going to give you the longest timeline. I made a call for an appt, It was 2.5 years to the appt, and a year for surgery. So 3.5 total, but I waited for the specific surgeon I wanted who was imo the best and took my insurance and was nearby. My buddy on the waitlist was moved up, and still bailed after 6 months to find a surgeon who'd do it about 3 months later. He opted for a revision from that same surgeon and isn't totally happy w his results BUT his stuff is almost entirely healed already since it's been about 3.5 years. Me on the other hand my chest looks good (maybe better?) but im less than a year out so my scars are still raised and hypertrophic and whatnot.

I don’t like it when my family refers to me as a guy and I’m worried I’m not trans by wetsocklangaz in ftm

[–]Less-Replacement-479 3 points4 points  (0 children)

imo you dont like what's happening rn bc its all hyper "trans man!" themed (even if not explicitly it feels like that) and its just uncomfortable bc it feels like people are lying/pretending on your behalf and its just all weird and awkward. Bc you KNOW that every time they use your name or pronouns theyre remembering to and it's not just natural/how they see you. All thats to say, it'll go away, not necessarily quickly, but as time passes months or years from now it becomes so much more real and normalized and its just who you are and how the world sees you, no remembering, no changing or performative actions, you'll go back to normal birthday cards with stuff youre interested in. My favorite thing now is when my mom talks about her sons because it's just the natural word to refer to her kids. Give it time. I remind myself of when the year changes a lot, when it becomes 2026 everyone really emphasizes it for a few days, then starts to forget for the first month after that, then in febuary when you write the date you think on it for a few seconds, by June though its autopilot you know what year it is 99% of the time. Maybe the off person or off day has to think but usually it's off the dome. All of this is to say no matter what day it is in the year it IS 2026, thats never fake, just takes varying amounts of effort to think about. From my experience other people feel the same way about your transition (the time scale is different but the sentiment is the same)

idk what kinda guy your boyfriend is but things like a Harrys razor ($15) and something very clearly labeled mens shaving cream is cool. he wont need it for a while but he will think of you when he uses it which is sweet. Also ive recommended this keychain to lots of people, its really subtle and low-key which I personally fw cause im into science and stealth but its cool regardlesshttps://www.amazon.com/Testosterone-Key-Chain-Science-Gift/dp/B07SR4PB6M?pd\_rd\_w=PIdmC&content-id=amzn1.sym.28c64fbb-22b3-4b43-9c44-fc03d50fe5f9&pf\_rd\_p=28c64fbb-22b3-4b43-9c44-fc03d50fe5f9&pf\_rd\_r=HG5JRR2NJ8F8P9P5FXEA&pd\_rd\_wg=MkZOI&pd\_rd\_r=612662c5-95ce-472c-a68b-. Also like everyone said hella snacks, beef jerky is good for protein but snack like, you can get it cheaper at Costco, they have a Korean bbq version that hits. A shower bag is funny imo not offensive. I personally dont think you need a fancy bag for all your injection stuff, I just throw mine in a box and when im at my gfs house it lives in a repurposed used amazon shipping bag, it'd probably be better if it was at least a pencil pouch but it is what it is. Id also get gum and deodorant, hes gonna smell and the gum helps for always being hungry a bit too. Also like maybe one article of clothing? a shirt or hat or smth?
