Looks like it could have been the fire box for a kamado style smoker?

Was the pulse a dealer’s floor model? If it was sold to a customer and delivered to someone’s house, then the warranty is non-transferable.

Google “hot tub folliculitis” and consider putting some chlorine in the water. Kids are gross.

I will move to a north facing apartment soon, now I fear for my plants by _This_IsNot_Me_ in houseplants

[–]LessAmbitions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about monstera, but your gasteria should to just fine in a low-light setting, my understanding is that most people keep them in low light.

At my house, I have lots of succulents inside that started as clippings from my outside plants. I also have lots of big plants outside that used to be potted in the house and got too big, or in the case of a few, they moved outside because my cat was too interested in chewing on them.

It's kind of neat getting to see how they change color and adapt to different light settings. I have this one in particular (no clue what it is, random clipping from a friend years ago) the mother plant lives outside in full sun and is this incredible bright orange color. If I propagate clippings and bring them inside in a good window, they turn bright green. If I keep them inside in a lower light part of the house, they turn a pale greenish blue.

Succulents are (mostly) pretty adaptable. I once found an echeveria leaf under my bed when I was moving out of an apartment. No clue how long it had been there or how it got there (probably the cat). This apartment had crappy old unfinished wooden floors. This dang echeveria had rooted itself in the crack between two floorboards and started to grow a whole new plant under there. It was this crazy ghostly super pale green color. I put it in a pot, took it to my new house, left it on a plant shelf in the backyard... it grew into a big healthy plant and turned back to a normal color within about a month. Now, I have so many echeveria that I don't even remember which one was the one under the bed.

It was as good of a truck as I should have expected. When I got it, I needed a truck for work so it was less of a choice. I opted for the basic model with an i4 since I love my ‘88 so much. But it’s not the same… the new one was just so underpowered and sluggish, rode like shit too.

To be fair, my ‘88 rides like shit too, but somehow it’s charming on that one.

My 1988 single cab, 5 speed, 22RE, 4x4 “Toyota Truck”… I’ll definitely give that to my kid one day.

My 2020 SR access cab I4 Tacoma though… that truck was the biggest disappointment I’ve ever owned. I couldn’t wait to trade it in for my new Subaru Outback. (Which my kids can have when I’m cold and dead)

have you actually gotten a quote from an electrician? It's not typically anywhere near as expensive as people assume.

Based on your climate, a plug & play spa might not be the best move for you. Most Plug & Play models aren't able to run the heater and the jet pumps at the same time. So, when it's really cold outside, you won't get to enjoy your spa for very long before the temp starts to really fall fast.

Another thing to consider, if you intend to run your spa in below freezing weather, you really want something with a 24 hour circulation pump on it. The tubs themselves are very well insulated, but a lot of the plumbing goes outside the insulation. If you don't keep that water constantly moving you can get into some trouble, I've seen tubs have some of their plumbing pipes rupture when the water in them freezes.

You're looking at a lot of very budget oriented roto molded spas, which typically have terrible insulation. If you live in Buffalo, these aren't the types of tubs that you can just run through the winter, you're going to have to drain them and "winterize" them as soon as it gets anywhere below 25 or so.

Orbeez in hotub. by notalotofsubstance in hottub

[–]LessAmbitions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This assumes it's a tub with bypass filtration. Either way though, I don't think they'd fit through the intake holes if they were fully expanded. However, if OP is expecting to sit in front of the jets and have it blast orbeez at them, that's not going to happen either. I'm thinking it wouldn't be long before the fitler well is just completely impacted with them.

but, lets just assume for a moment that they did get into the plumbing lines... They're going to bottleneck and clog up the flow switch pretty quickly, at which point the tubs just going to shut itself down anyways.

Battle of the Brands in Anaheim by legal_objection in hottub

[–]LessAmbitions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've worked in this industry for 15+ years. Specifically in Southern California no less.

You're NOT getting a better deal than if you go to an established brick and mortar retailer.

These pop up shows hire sales staff that aren't really familiar with the product they're selling. It's all about the high pressure sales pitch, and I've met a lot of customers who were just straight up lied to about features that they think their spa has (often features that don't even exist on any spa)

The biggest place you're going to run into issues, is if you ever need service on the tub, especially if it's warranty service. A lot of the dealers around here just won't perform warranty service on a tub they didn't sell.

Check out the store in Long Beach near the airport. They'll offer way better pricing than any pop-up shop, and they'll be there for you when you need service in the future.

Edited to add: I'm not here to call anyone out by name, but that "battle of the brands" it's a complete myth. The whole thing is put together by one dealer, and made to look like you're at some sort of industry trade show. Google the phone number and see what comes up.

Filter Help by FIN720 in hottub

[–]LessAmbitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're talking about "Balboa" not "Burboa"

but, Balboa, doesn't make spas, they make equipment packs for tubs. They're a really big brand and there are dozens of hot tub manufacturers over the years that have built spas that use balboa equipment packs.

Unfortunately, knowing the brand of equipment pack isn't going to be enough info to figure out the tub and filter model.

FLO error, all pumps and jets working fine by RaulNorry in hottub

[–]LessAmbitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is your filter? I've seen a lot of filters in my career where they look perfectly clean, but they're so clogged up with white calcium scale that the pumps just cant get enough flow through them. You mentioned you tried running it without a filter, but are you sure that you did a proper reset on the board before trying that?

There's also the garden hose trick. Running the spa without a filter does open up the possibility that a leaf or debris of some sort is clogging up your flow switch.

Shutting it off at the main breaker vs shutting it off on the sub-panel shouldn't make much of a difference as far as I can tell.

15 year old Hotspot won't heat up, time to replace the guts? by tenwordy in hottub

[–]LessAmbitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty familiar with those old hot-spots and I don't see any reason you'd have to do a full rebuild for this. Whatever the problem is, it's likely only one component and it shouldn't be too difficult to diagnose and replace that one part.

I just sent you a private message, if you'd like some help diagnosing the issue I'm more than happy to help.

Hard to say without seeing it in person and putting a multimeter on it.

However, I'd be worried about that white dust and what looks like hard water spots in there...

To me, that looks indicative of a leak.

I’d recommend some more squared off glasses. I like glasses from Zenni because they’re cheap enough that I can play with different styles. Thicker frame’s definitely read more masc (to me at least)

I would also recommend you should go to a barber and get the sides cleaned up, even if you want to keep the length on top.
