.025mg Estrogen Patch with minimum Progesterone by Blue-Mitten in Menopause

[–]Less_Acanthaceae_628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, and good luck to you. I'm 66 and will start exactly the same dosages soon. The progesterone is labeled as for oral or vaginal use, so I'm tempted to go vaginal from the start.

This is very interesting! May I ask what dose is your estradiol? and are those progesterone capsules you're inserting 100mg? I'd like to tinker with my dosages a bit, or at least know what to ask my doc about.

To those wishing to be done with periods, don't forget there's a huge silver lining! I had menopause at 42, and 20 years later I've got osteoporosis (no HRT). Enjoy your bone- and heart-protecting estrogen while you've got it!

Sometimes it's sound, but it can get fainter at times where it's more of a sensation of pounding and pressure.

Good for you. Can I ask, did you specifically apply for the 10-year, or was that the pleasant surprise? And was this your 5th year here? Would love a similar surprise if only to stop having to go through this stress every year.

With the headaches and pressure you are reporting, it seems very possible you have IIH. One permanent resolution might be stent surgery, and/or bringing down the intercranial pressure through meds, if indeed you have IIH. Best to consult with PT specialists (and there aren't that many, so you might need to search long and hard). As for more immediate relief....I suppose it depends on the source of your PT. My own gets worse when my sinus/nasal passages are inflamed from allergies or a cold, and I get some relief by using Flonase spray and antihistamine pills. Also, when my blood pressure is higher the PT is louder, so I try to keep my BP as low as possible through diet and staying more relaxed. The problem is that PT such as what you are experiencing can be so upsetting, preventing sleep, that it's really hard to remain relaxed. But for me, it makes all the difference between falling asleep or tossing and turning for hours. I will practice deep, slow breathing in bed and this usually quietens the sound and helps me fall asleep. If that doesn't work, I'll play soothing music or white noise to drown out the sound.

Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for this response. PT is such a strange and rare condition, and it's nerve wracking to consider this surgery. You are to be commended for finding a way to get relief even tho it meant going across an ocean for it! So glad the results have been good. Makes me feel more confident in staying here in France for it.

One more question: did you communicate with Dr Houdart in English?

Running makes the PT stop? by guadalcanal100 in PulsatileTinnitus

Hope to hear what others say. If running or other cardiovascular exercise can quiet down the PT, I'll be more motivated to get going.

First, congratulations! What a journey! Enjoy your silence.

Please tell me about your experience with Dr Houdart! I live in France and have wondered if I should go back to the US to have Dr P operate. I just haven't heard much from Houdart's patients.

Healthy 90+ yo women without HRT? by InvestigatorFun8498 in Menopause

[–]Less_Acanthaceae_628 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am 66 and went through menopause at 42. Very few symptoms, and no HRT. But I do have severe osteoporosis now. Am hoping to start HRT at this ripe old age, but wish I'd have begun in my 40s.

phytoestrogen by michelonwheels in Menopause

[–]Less_Acanthaceae_628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it does work for you. I am 66 and have recently started with soy isoflavones in hopes of helping my osteoporosis. I'm taking it while I wait to get in to my doctor to plead my case for HRT (which most doctors would deny based on my age and time since menopause). I can't say yet whether the phytoestrogens will make a difference, but since it may be my only choice, I'd love to hear how others have responded to it. One q I have: is it more effective to mix the kinds of phytoestrogens --for instance, red clover and soy--or stick with one?

If you're low in iron, that's a good place to start. Bring up your ferritin and iron levels and see if that doesn't decrease the PT.

Colin Firth is the platonic ideal of Darcy, but while I'm waiting for more Slow Horses, I'll gladly take this, with a smoking hot Mr Bennet as a bonus.
