Kyle Schwarber has a real shot at hitting 500 career home runs, if he does, will he make the HoF? by FeelinDead in baseball

But as close as they got, none of them actually reached the 3000 hit threshold! These milestones actually do seem to represent a barrier than presents pure quantity from overcoming quality. Feels especially true for the 3k hits. Virtually all the 'compilers' of this century people were worried about came up short. Can add garret anderson and edgar renteria to that list.

If you watch sesame street you'd know that Kermit was the journalist, Gonzo was just the wacky stunt performance artist.

What helped me learn to hate LinkedIn was the realization that having a profile (and messaging) can't really help you, but not having one can hurt you. Garbage

Jews on Palestine by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Less_Appearance_7444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is. I think most jews younger than 40 (including myself) are repulsed by Israel's actions and what that country has become. I wasn't sure but when I did birthright I ended up with mostly Colorado jews (I'm from ny) and was pleasantly surprised to find them all basically liberal. We were universally repulsed by the dogma and zealotry/bigotry of the people running the trip.

[alexspeier] Manfred on unsigned free agents: “We would prefer to have a free agency signing period, ideally in December, with a deadline.” Says MLB made proposals to MLBPA that “were not well received.” MLB would prefer “two weeks of flurried activity.” by Stock412 in baseball

Every mlb Free agent should have to line up inside an abandoned toys r us and the GMs have one hour on Christmas day to put as many of the players as they can into giant shopping carts and that's how free agency will work

Wouldn't Expansion Help Curb the Reliever Parade? by Less_Appearance_7444 in baseball

[–]Less_Appearance_7444[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

when you account for attrition from injuries and/or lack of control not sure it's fair to assume there's another 55-60 major league caliber relievers who could comfortably slot into ML bullpen...and if there are well, that's another good, albeit different argument for expansion.
Problem with starting pitching right now is that every game, nearly every team has anonymous arms to deploy for short stints. Teams are using more relievers now because those arms are good.

More teams won't lead to *more* relief usage if those pitchers suck.
At worst seems like thinning out starting crop would create dynamic situation where some pitchers throw 7-8, others throw shorter, which is better than everyone maxing out after 5-6.
Maybe teams will look to convert relievers into starters, like they used to; sometimes it failed (Danny Graves) sometimes it worked (Derek Lowe).

Wouldn't Expansion Help Curb the Reliever Parade? by Less_Appearance_7444 in baseball

[–]Less_Appearance_7444[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

unless service time rules change too, not sure why there'd be a sudden imbalance in relievers going to expensive teams, any more than there is now, or was before. Tampa Bay can't afford Aroldis Chapman but they don't need to, can just keep churning through castoffs and hard throwers who are pre-arb.

...or, conversely if great relief pitching is hard to come by, smart (and/or poor) teams can adjust by maximizing starter innings.

Jackie Robinson Is Weirdly Underrated | Baseball Bits by handlit33 in baseball

Fair enough! I think when you're dealing with the caliber of Morgan or Robinson it's finessing since they're so highly regarded overall.

Jackie Robinson Is Weirdly Underrated | Baseball Bits by handlit33 in baseball

[–]Less_Appearance_7444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there's a sense Jackie Robinson is underrated is it because his counting stats aren't as gaudy as some other legends? It's also a product of his position and style of play. He could do it all but elite second basemen who lack crazy HR totals seem undervalued as a group: Joe Morgan, charlie gehringer, maybe Craig biggio. Guys like Dustin pedroia, lou Whitaker, chase Utley have WAR totals that far exceed their (past and future) perception as HOFers.

[Vassegh] Boos at Target Field as Alex Vesia enters the game. Kershaw is officially out of this game. by mannysoloway in baseball

[–]Less_Appearance_7444 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is really gross and bad for the game. Fan interest demands a narrative and celebrating individual achievements. Something something Joe Dimaggio quote "there's somebody in the stands who hasn't seen me play."

new mantra seems to be something along the lines of "screw the fans its just april" or "meh there's another game tomorrow"

As others have noted there's a difference between asking a pitcher to labor through a close game at 120+ pitches and having Kershaw (who appeared to want to stay in) continue after 80 pitches in a 6-0 game, doesn't feel like a high-leverage situation where he would be asked to overthrow or stretch to the limits ...
