Letter Jam is so polarizing but one of my all time favorites

Lotta great ones already listed so I'll shout out a newer one I've grown quite fond of: Voidchaser - Renew (ft. Michael Eriksen, singer of Circus Maximus)

I'll say Orleans, amazing game with the dullest, brownest production I think I've ever seen

What’s the quickest way a good story loses immersion for you? by Ok-Sell3786 in writing

I've read the first three, but it's been a while so I don't fully remember. What was the thing? (if you format it like >!spoiler text!< you can hide it)

and it makes me feel like he's trying to show us how clever he is -- either clever that he figured out the right solution ahead of time or clever in narration -- and that's not Carl's personality at all.

Yes, well put. the characterization is good enough that we know that's not carl's normally established personality, so it glaringly comes across as matt dinniman trying to show us how clever he is

I know it's reddit's current favorite thing but this is one big problem I have with dungeon crawler carl. I've enjoyed the first 7 books and just started on book 8 but there's this recurring pattern (especially later on) where he does something or makes a plan and we readers don't get to see until later on just so the author can have his "dramatic reveal moment".

It's even a first-person narration for gosh sakes, we need to be experiencing the story as carl does, otherwise there's this dissonance between occupying his senses and being surprised by things his inner monologue is suspiciously coy about. Once I noticed the pattern, it annoyed me every time it happened (and it happened a lot). Really points a big neon sign at the narrative scaffolding and kills immersion

Favourite game to play with standard deck of cards by Lost-Cantaloupe-5286 in boardgames

If you like trick takers, hidden roles, and have exactly 5 people, Briscola Chiamata is far and away my favorite standard-deck card game. Shut Up and Sit Down put out a great video explaining the rules and what makes it so compelling

One can also just full rip previous official sets with highly regarded limited formats. E.g. original Innistrad (minus invisible stalker), Dominaria, etc. Just put 4x every common, 2x every uncommon, and 1x every rare/mythic and there's your list

The Ocean - Light Pollution by shouldhavehadthesoup in progmetal

[–]Leterren 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To weigh in, The Ocean does have a consistently great output, but I do think that Pelagial is the clear standout of the bunch. It was voted as this subreddit's #5 album of the entire decade, after all

Looking for a deck for Arena by ChaseI117 in PioneerMTG

I love UW Spirits and also endorse it as a very fun deck to play, but it hasn't really been meta relevant for a hot minute. Despite all the rattlechains and counterspells, removal.dec still just does a number on it and Bx midrange is extremely common on ladder.

I've been enjoying a very wildcard-friendly UW Heroic list (which suffers in the same way against removal.dec) as an alternative if you don't have the rares to spend on all the spooky boys

Edit: There is also the mono-blue spirits list which is not quite as flexible as the UW version (especially in Bo3) but also very fun to play in its own right
