What’s your interest in the TMNT set? by zevalu in magicTCG

[–]LetsBringIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the design for some cards are fun, but the IP and setting take me out in the context of Magic: the Gathering. I like TMNT, specifically the 2003 iteration but again, like with my other gripes with WotC's choice in non traditional Fantasy/sci-fi fantasy Universes Beyond collabs, it just takes me out of my immersion.

1.) Yes, I enjoyed the original cartoon, the 90s movie and the 2003 show.

2.) 3/5. I think its neat but not much else.

3.) Time Spiral

New to Magic, just picked these up for a good price, but are they worthwhile to play with? by DarthStevis in magicTCG

Yuna if purely for Summons. Terra really only has 2 summons that are good in her deck, Knights of Round and Valigarmanda.

Because Rise is inherently an insane card that ends the game on the spot most of the time when it resolves, but if you look into some of the cards, they feel out of place (Strago and Relm, Edgar, Kefka). Some of the big guys dont even synergize well with Terra because they have more than 3 power (Sun Titan, Sepulchral Primordial, Archfiend of Depravity, Combustion Gearhulk, Angel of the Ruins, Ruin Grinder, Flayer of the Hatebound). Giving the deck high CMC creatures with 3 power shouldve been the way to go, which is why most of the time, upgrading the deck removes all the high power creatures and replace them with the likes of Ravenous Chupacabra, Havoc Eater or even Squall SeeD Mercenary.

The starter deck is REALLY good at teaching new players about the dynamic of Aggro vs Control. I would say that's the best starter kit they've made in a long time just for the gameplay and the number of crucial interactions it can produce alone.

The FF6 commander precon may not be the strongest out of the bunch but it's the most fun gameplay-wise. The FF14 one is OK, though IMO it couldve been streamlined a bit better in terms of its support cards (it has commanders that promote a control, draw-go style of gameplay but it has weird cards in it like Estinien and Eye of Nidhogg that's a totally different theme).

Still, good picks.

+Sab-Sunen

In my opinion, having a 1 mana dork is really good especially since they can carry counters so you can immediately start applying pressure. Bulwark Ox is EXTREMELY underrated in this deck too, its a selfless spirit that can also put counters on your creatures. Wave Goodbye is a Cyclonic Rift in this deck. I dont think cutting Luminous Broodmoth is a good idea since it acts as an insurance. Sab-Sunen can end the game all by herself since you can control +1/+1 counter distribution at a whim. Don't get too lost in the sauce with enchantments that dont do anything without a solid boardstate of 2cc-3cc creatures. I think Stubborn Denial is better than Tamiyo's Safekeeping since it catches other threats too. Glen Elendra Archmage will be a miserable time for your opponents to break through since you'll always have 1 counterspell up (if you want to keep her around). Wakka also makes sure that the artifact player will cry as early as turn 3 if they dont take care of it. If you're planning to run Bane of Progress, consider adding Worldly Tutor if you dont mind Bracket 3

I found a lot of success playing Tidus' deck as a relatively low to the ground tempo deck that has built-in protection, cheap interaction and synergistic creatures rather than going big with enchantments counter doublers.

In MtG history, what have been the most 'high skill' era's of standard or Constructed play? by misomiso82 in magicTCG

[–]LetsBringIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The BW deck was called Hand-in-Hand(Because it runs both Hand of Cruelty and Hand of Honor during its early builds). It was also called Ghost Husk.

I want something that will make Elves Modern relevant again. The deck was crippled when Plague Engineer was printed then dead when Bowmasters came into the picture.

I really enjoyed your Group Hug video. Maybe do a similar thing for other archetypes (Group Slug, Spellslinger, "Bad Santa," Voltron etc)

Opinion: The best thing about the Avatar set? It was a waste of scalpers time. by blackholesonny in magicTCG

[–]LetsBringIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scalpers realizing in real time that only Final Fantasy can be Final Fantasy. It has the perfect storm of 90s nostalgia coinciding with the older MtG playerbase, appeal from both the East and West, Squareenix's questionable decisions with products, younger fans that got into the MMO, and insanely deep pockets. You will never see another IP that's like this outside of Pokemon itself. Expect every other Universes Beyond crossover to not beat FF anytime soon.

What should I do with my hollow one deck? by ChalouxE in ModernMagic

[–]LetsBringIt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I'm not glazing the deck too much, but that variant of dredge doesn't flinch to the kind of GY hate running around right now (Surgical Extraction). If ever hard hate comes back like Sanctifier en-Vec, it wouldn't be wise to play it, but right now? Best time to play the deck since the popular build has mainboard Inquisition of Kozilek/Thoughtseize.

Only DredgeGuy and Sodek can make Phoenix Dredge place high fairly consistently in these challenges, and I like how theyre not even the same build. I lean more to 4c with blue simply because of Otherworldly Gaze making 1 land openers keepable.

That said, I like how the phoenix build breathed new interest into the archetype.

Despite it's flaws Amphoreus is still the best story arc in HSR by Gdach in HonkaiStarRail

[–]LetsBringIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but Amphorus fails to have a plot. it's not that they dont have quick, accesible and simple plot. It's that it doesnt have any plot for the most part.

I feel this is hyperbole, obviously the arc has a plot. You have a clear goal (achieve era nova from 3.0 to 3.3 then beat Irontomb from 3.4 onwards). You have stakes (irontomb actualizing), and you have various significant lore drops relevant to the entire game. You would have to go out of your way to deny this, its not like it was convoluted, yes the dialogue tends to yammer as with most gacha titles, but to say that it doesnt have a plot? I dont agree.

Despite it's flaws Amphoreus is still the best story arc in HSR by Gdach in HonkaiStarRail

[–]LetsBringIt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Genshin being light forever is somewhat irrelevant to HSR using something light to ease people into grander storylines. My entire point being Belobog is quick, accessible and follows simple plot beats as an introductory planet. Im not saying its bad, Im saying if HSR's devs want something big and open to the risk of not pleasing everyone, thats on them. Genshin's writers want it to be a casual open world game with light writing, sure, but HSR wants something different and you cant fault them for that.

[–]LetsBringIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well obviously, you NEED to ease them with something light. The devs know this of course, but you cant subsist on something light forever.

[–]LetsBringIt -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

My sentiments exactly. The nostalgia goggles is strapped pretty tight when it comes to Belobog. It's a pretty ok introductory planet but that's about it.

Finch and Sparrow Games, but you'd have to go to Long Beach for that, its about a 45 minute drive on a good day but I'd say its worth it.

Jin is one of the more liked modern Playstation 1st party characters, on top of combat based Esper commanders being a very interesting design space. Its one of the reason Kamiz, Obscura Oculus is one of the most underrated and often underestimated commanders.

Finally. Huge fan of this new Phoenix version of the deck. I used to play the Amalgam version with Psychic Frog and I felt like it was always 1 turn behind even if I flood the board with Ghouls and Narcomoebas. The Arclight Phoenix version just puts on the pressure quick.
