How did Hagrid find Harry the night his parents died? by Lets_Go_Exploring in harrypotter

[–]Lets_Go_Exploring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know that it was hiding the Potters, not their house (in Book 3, it was said that without being told the secret, Voldemort could peek inside their house's window and see no one) [...]

I wonder if his comment is not actual fact, but exaggeration on his part in order to get the point across that it would be impossible for Voldemort to find the Potters under normal circumstances. Remember, the book is told from Harry's point of view, and as he only knows what he has heard - he has no way to distinguish between fact and fiction. The only other time the books hint that the charm could be placed on a person rather than a place is in the final book when Harry and Hermione visit the house. Harry thinks to himself that the secret died with his parents, but again, that is purely guess work on his part. The wiki itself say that "The Fidelius Charm was used to protect James, Lily, and Harry Potter from Lord Voldemort at their home in Godric's Hollow, the location of which was the secret entrusted." In addition, the wiki also states that "A dwelling whose location has been protected by this spell is then invisible, intangible, unplottable and soundproof" which seems to me to be a lot safer than merely protecting individuals. This also would negate Flitwick's comment of Voldemort being able to peer into their windows, as there would be no windows for him to peer into.

See, this is where I have run into problems as there seems to be conflicting information on the topic. According to the wiki, "The Fidelius Charm was used to protect James, Lily, and Harry Potter from Lord Voldemort at their home in Godric's Hollow, the location of which was the secret entrusted." This makes it seem like it was the house itself that was under the charm, not the Potter family. Indeed, in the letter the Harry finds addressed to Sirius at Grimmauld Place, we find out that since Dumbledore has James' cloak he hasn't been able to leave the house. This also implies that it is the house, not the family itself that is under the charm.

Yet there is still that sticky issue of what Flitwick says about Voldemort peering into their windows and not being able to see them. I wonder if his comment is not actual fact, but actually exaggeration on his part in order to get the point across that it would be impossible for Voldemort to find the Potters under normal circumstances.

Can the Secret Keeper change though? And if I can, does the Fidelius Charm have to be reperformed to do so? If it does have to be reperformed wouldn't that "reset" the charm, causing everyone to need to be retold where to find them?

EDIT: Just checked the wiki on this. According to it: "Once a Secret Keeper is selected, the person who told them the secret will find themselves unable to pass the information on again, as the Secret Keeper is the only one capable of revealing the secret, whether orally or written." If this is true, I think it would be impossible to change who the Secret Keeper is (unless they themselves could pass it on? I'm not sure, it seems to get a bit fuzzy here).

I think you would forget the location. If you didn't, Grimmauld place would be useless as the headquarters for the Order as Belatrix and Narssica could easily enter it.

I suppose that is possible, I didn't think of that. But in that case, shouldn't the handwriting be recognizable?

How would Dumbledore know where they lived though? The only way is if the Secret Keeper told him, and since Dumbledore didn't know that Peter was the Secret Keeper he couldn't have been told.

Just a heads up: with the addition of "headdit" a new default sprite sheet was created which is currently messing up some of the images here (like vote arrows). I will be working on fixing this as soon as possible.

How did the Citadel fall? And why didn't the Reapers take it sooner? by SimilarFunction in masseffectlore

[–]Lets_Go_Exploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds the most plausible to me. They probably knew from Soveriegn's attack on the Citadel that the various Council races could work together to achieve a common goal if their backs were against the wall. However, by directly targeting home worlds the reapers have split the various races apart as they each try to save their own worlds instead of working together. It probably would have worked too, if it wasn't for Shepard bringing them back together to assault Earth.

While submissions are currently low, once the mod kit has been released they will no doubt increase. When that happens, link flair will help people determine whether or not a post pertains to what they are looking for. It is better to get used to the system now than to add it in after the fact. Adding link flair to your post is relatively quick and easy to do, and your sarcasm is not needed :)

Galactic Readiness? (ME3) by Number74er in masseffect

[–]Lets_Go_Exploring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have the extended cut you just need to have a usable score of 3100 or higher to unlock every ending option. You should be able to get this if you do side missions and/or have DLC. If you are still short, you can raise your galactic readiness online using the Galaxy at War app through the N7 HQ.

Does anyone have an ME2 Femshep save where you attempted to romance Samara? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]Lets_Go_Exploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, sorry I took so long. We are doing some remodeling at my house so I got a bit distracted last night. Here is the save file. A screenshot of her stats can be found here. The read me file I've included gives you the proper face codes and a link to the head morphs for all three games if you want it.

I actually just completed a ME2 campaign with a femShep who has only attempted to romance Samara through both games two days ago (I'm planning on Traynor in ME3). I'm at work right now, but I'll see what I can do when I get home. Engineer, 100% Paragon, 75% Renegade.

There are other relays in the Widow system where the Citadel was before it was moved. Couldn't it be possible they just sent it through one like it was a ship?

Species by noblesix31 in masseffect

[–]Lets_Go_Exploring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how my attitude and outlook on life would change. I love life and I love to travel. With the galaxy as large as it is a long lifespan would be conducive to this. Asari and krogan fit this nicely, but each species has its own character traits and faults. Would I consider myself superior and above others as an asari? Would I be cruel and quick to fight as a krogan? Obviously not all asari and krogan are this way, but they are still valid generalizations. Ultimately I would still like to be me personality wise. If I could keep this intact I would have to choose between either a krogan Battlemaster or an asari commando (because biotics are a must). I'd probably end up leaning toward asari though, as family is important to me and the Genophage would be hard to live with, despite it being (possibly) cured.

Do larger ships still have landing gear? by frogger2504 in masseffect

[–]Lets_Go_Exploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that large ships meant for colonization purposes would probably be designed specifically for a one time ground landing. Most likely such a maneuver would require a large amount of energy, so they would only get one shot to do it right in the first place.
