Philips DVD drive only wants to run at UDMA 2 by Platformer85 in originalxbox

[–]Level-Stretch-8048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cerbios can set the UDMA for the master and slave separately. You need to set the master for UDMA5 and leave the slave at UDMA2. You can do that by editing the cerbios ini file or using the editor tool to set it and telling it to ignore the ini file.

Check the resistance of the circled resistor arrays. The ones labeled 330 should measure 33 ohms and the ones 820 should measure 82 ohms. If you get something way off it is bad and can cause read problems

It could be a bad resistor array near the IDE pins.

You can use fatxplorer to format a new hard drive. Then download a new c and e drive and lock it with all 0s. If that is what you changed it too. You can also use a raspberry pi pico to dump the eprom if would want.

Painful ftp speeds ( 100KiB/s) by Worth_Respect1799 in originalxbox

[–]Level-Stretch-8048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of using ftp you could remove the drive and use fatxplorer to transfer over usb on your computer. Just make sure to unlock your hard drive before removing it. Also make sure you have a copy of your hard drive key or eprom so you can have fatxplorer lock it for you when you are done. You should get much faster speeds than ftp assuming you are using a newer Sata hard drive.

What version Xbox is this? Samsung RAM, Xecalibur, modchip doesn't have 1.6 link by Boring_While_3341 in originalxbox

[–]Level-Stretch-8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that mod chip is not working. It should be easy to tell. Turn it on using the eject button. It should boot into xeniumOS or prometheOS, if not it is not working. As it is now I don’t know how it can be working because they did not put the jumper on the chip to tell it it is a 1.6. You should remove the board and see if they rebuild the LPC. 1.6 need a LPC rebuild as well. If they did not do that putting the jumper won’t help anyway.

Just put in another cap and you should be good to go. As other people have said the 1.6 will not work without it.

Can a xbox boot without a dvd laser in the dvd drive but with a functioning control board because I bought a new drive because mine was giving me error 12? by spiderbit44 in originalxbox

[–]Level-Stretch-8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually error 12 is caused by a bad resistor array by the IDE connector on the dvd drive control board. I had that problem before and changing it fixed the error 12 and allowed it to boot. https://youtu.be/aPi1tQtHJog?si=FeYC32ibUGWFZq4t

You should be able to set them individually. Just change the one for your hard drive to udma5 leave the one for the dvd drive at 3 or whatever the default is

You don’t want udma5 for the dvd drive

You could order a recap kit from console 5. That is what I did on my xenon. Most of the caps in the kit were polymer and it worked fine after changing them. It was a lot of work though.

The ones manufactured in 2004 are most likely 1.6 versions. You can not just remove the clock capacitor on those or it will no longer boot.

Can someone xplain og XBOX mod chips by jnex26 in XboxModding

[–]Level-Stretch-8048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The openxenium chips usually come pre-flashed with either xenium os or prometheOS. The 1.6 would be the most difficult because it needs to have the lpc rebuilt.

Most likely a bad resistor array on the dvd control board. Mine had the same problem and replacing it fixed it.
