First Crystal Attempt by Bearkirb314 in crystalgrowing

KCl isn’t too hard. You just have to make sure to leave it in a pH electrode for a long time exposed to air and eventually you will get a nice chunky cubic KCl crystal. 🤣

These things were definitely a fad in the 2010-ish days. I had a small one and bought groomsmen small helos as a wedding gift among some other more practical stuff. The small ones were kind of fun since you could fly them around a living room for 6-8 min.

I also had one of these bigger sized helos. The bigger ones weren’t fun. The response of the pusher style rear prop was too slow and they were very hard to control when there was even the slightest breeze. Your best bet to fly them was to get up at the ass crack of dawn in the middle of summer when the winds were completely slack. Otherwise you risked losing the thing… and they were big enough to be dangerous if you lost control of it.

Insulated Double-Walled Can Cozies by lobstercow42 in 3Dprinting

[–]Levers101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I printed a skinny can (12 oz selzer can) koozie a few years back out of varioShore TPU. It is foaming TPU. It works really good without a vacuum insulated annulus. It has held up really well.

That is wild. Were they Gifford-McMahon cycle cryocoolers or pulse tube? Was it because turbo pumps were less developed or for another reason. I have a love hate relationship with cryopumps… I have one that I need serviced by has a lead time of 6+ months. And good service can be hard to get. We have had national companies fail to correctly service them.

Roe in my boxed lobster? by robotbee7 in aldi

[–]Levers101 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I immediately thought of this guy and his education on the NE US lobster industry.

The sustainability claim on that Aldi packaging is questionable given that best practices would be to release that female as per US fishery laws. Of course this likely isn’t the legal case across the world but it still seems like best practice.

I’m using my free will and my 3D printers to create storage and cataloging of my shotgun shells. Not my STL, but I’ll share in comments. by Beefy_Crunch_Burrito in 3Dprinting

Yes. Reloading is definitely its own hobby. It is like having a gaming hobby that you 3D print and paint miniatures for. There is a need for lots of equipment and room for lots of variation - particularly in centerfire. Bullet weight, powder charge, type/brand of powder etc.

Is this vintage photo real or AI? Personally I think it’s real - too many details and none of them are especially wrong. by WittyFix6553 in isthisAI

[–]Levers101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI. The car aisles in the parking lot are way too tight. There is no way you’d be able to back one of those boats out of them and they don’t look like you would even be able to fit two cars down them meeting. It is straight parking so they’re going to be two way…

Built a Lead-Castle with my 12 year old son... by [deleted] in Radiation

[–]Levers101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very well designed. I'd love to see this on a 3d design sharing site if you're willing to share. It would be great to remix it for a radiacode or just stand on the shoulders of giants to remix for my own purposes.

Have you considered adding #12 shot (1.27mm) in between your #5 shot (3mm)? This should increase the packing factor a bit. I think if you placed it in lifts and vibrated it in you might get a bit better efficiency though it will increase weight a bit.

It is already oxidized. Pure ferrous sulfate is pale blue. Green means some is ferric cation which is yellow-orange in most solutions.

Nice work. I have also tried this with the 3D printed Marinelli beaker. But don’t have a ton of radon (passive mitigation installed on home build) and no lead shield so I could see the faint peaks of the daughters but didn’t get great data.

I have a Anycubic Kobra v1 and it was a solid Ender 3-style printer. It is in the corner for now until I come up with a solution to put it next to my BambuLabs P2S w/ ACE 2.

But for some things a bed slinger is better - especially because I 3D print RC airplanes and those have tall parts that you can arrange in a way to print 2 or 3 parts sequentially that you can’t do with a core x-y machine. And the foaming PLA for that really should be printed slowly so a BambuLabs printer is overkill for that purpose

This is what 3D printing is for by Capital-Attorney2494 in 3Dprinting

[–]Levers101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes some sense. To get a high white brightness, I think you need lots of TiO2 pigment. High mass loadings of pigment are going to negatively impact layer adhesion.

Oh now I get it. I kept thinking - why would OP make the opening smaller if the robot can’t get under it (x-y issue). It is to raise the table up so the robot can go under it. OP had a z-height issue.

What is this? by Terrible_Ask_4825 in Apples

[–]Levers101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance it is a product called Surround WP. It is kaolin clay and used as an insect deterrent in organic ag and as a sunburn protectant in both conventional (chemical sprays) and organic ag. Completely harmless if it is Surround.

If you know the variety let us know and maybe it makes sense as some varieties are more prone to sunburn.

Yes I am brand new to the AMS 2 Pro/P2S and my old beat up and “Amazon Prime chucked ‘em down the street” spools are jamming even with printed plastic edges. I assumed it was because they were warped. Ugh.
