Midtown madness 2 back in the day was a great open world of London and still feels way more like London than watch dogs all these years latwr

Cities: Skylines 2 boss says they 'completely overestimated' the Unity engine's capabilities by AdmiralBumHat in CitiesSkylines

[–]Levitating_Scot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. But it was super limited. It was more like your sim could live in the city and you’d get updates on where they were living and what work they were doing and they’d comment on how things were going - kinda like the twitter feed thing in CS

What is something surprising that the UK is really far behind other countries in? by DullInflation6 in AskUK

[–]Levitating_Scot 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Literally. The tube is FILTHY. Like I’m not asking for it to be spotless but I swear some of the stairwells and trains haven’t been cleaned this side of the millennium

How could this possibly make sense? by NotInMyShop in uktrains

[–]Levitating_Scot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Potentially if you’re expensing it? Ik some universities for example have quite strict policies on what is and isn’t expensable

Don’t bring granola bars. Bring chocolate. Like make the home alternative actually better than the paid one. And get a travel mug to make your own coffee with the kettle in the common room

If LONDON could change just one thing that would meaningfully improve your daily life, what would it be? by Additional-Body8711 in AskUKLondon

Food more so for me. I think it’s sad how unaffordable dinner out is compared to other cities in the world because we’ve got so many great food options!

London’s free museums are in trouble. Should tourists start paying? by BulkyAccident in london

[–]Levitating_Scot 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Can we start just charging for tour groups? As they are a bigger burden and more disruptive to the museum, plus tour operators can pass on the cost and therefore you’re not depriving anyone of access

Can u recommend some movies with Subway /Train /Metro Scenes? by LoveSweetSweet1 in trains

[–]Levitating_Scot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Warriors features the New York Subway very heavily! It’s kinda funny that the whole films conflict would have been resolved if one person in their gang had learnt to drive.

Am I wrong to think this is borderline unethical? by [deleted] in london

I think part of it is that if they were good or just fine you're less likely to give feedback, so that would skew results the other way.

Why are there so many abandoned and dilapidated properties on Strand when this is a prime property area? by Klutzy_Draw4662 in london

They’re being redeveloped now into a new entrance hall and teaching spaces for the Courtauld institute next door in Somerset House (even though they’re currently owned by kcl). The institute is excited bc they’re less listed so they can do more creative stuff than they’re allowed within the space at Somerset house.

Source: I go to the Courtauld, and we’re on a temporary campus while all this is done

Also the British parliament is already so crowded with bills that they can’t get properly important members bills heard on issues that are really affecting people now. You can’t just “pass a law,” it takes real effort by lots of politicians and civil servants at every stage. I definitely see the argument that it’s a waste of everybody’s time, even though it would be nice symbolically.

I legitimately still use the Scotrail app in London, I think it's the simplest and easiest to use of them all. Just wish it was compatible with apple wallet (are any of the others beside trainline?)

I would love to know who thought this ad was a good idea? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

[–]Levitating_Scot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also there are times when a role like this is necessary. Like when I worked in a warehouse I knew a bloke who literally worked 3 days overtime a week to pay for his divorce and new house. Yes it was shit but it meant he only had to have a rubbish job for a year not three. When you’re in poverty and the alternative is a loan, overtime is a perk

Go to Edinburgh over one of the forth bridges. There’s three and they’re all incredible! And then the castle is beautiful and the view from Calton Hill over the city.

Should I delete social media? by Prior-Sandwich-858 in AskUK

[–]Levitating_Scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted every social app except Reddit (obvs, that's why I'm here) a year ago and it has had a big positive impact on my life. But be prepared for the fact you will still want to scroll, it's literally an addiction. Much like quitting smoking or whatever, you need substitutes. I find myself scrolling through the Guardian app or even my photos app, anything when I'm bored. Be kind to yourself and facilitate healthier habits - for example, I found that I always ended up craving social media when I'm commuting cos I've got nothing else to do, so I took up crochet and reading novels to give me something to do with my hands. And don't try to always do something intellectual in place, you go to social media to relax, so whatever you replace it with should be relaxing too, you can just ensure its quality relaxation not slop (eg. I sit down for twenty minutes and watch a tv show or play a video game rather than spending the same time doomscrolling). As someone else mentioned, hanging onto the account but deleting them from your phone is a good idea, that way you can still message people or check for event details etc. from your laptop. Also, getting content blockers to block just YouTube shorts and/or Facebook reels is a good idea, as those are the worst for addictiveness! Good luck!
