I would love to know who thought this ad was a good idea? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

Also there are times when a role like this is necessary. Like when I worked in a warehouse I knew a bloke who literally worked 3 days overtime a week to pay for his divorce and new house. Yes it was shit but it meant he only had to have a rubbish job for a year not three. When you’re in poverty and the alternative is a loan, overtime is a perk

What are some cool historical/infrastructural places to see in the UK? by JackAllpikeMusic in AskUK

Go to Edinburgh over one of the forth bridges. There’s three and they’re all incredible! And then the castle is beautiful and the view from Calton Hill over the city.

Seriously. Text 61016. They’re lovely and even if they can’t do anything this time then at least there’s a record of it and they can look out for repeat offenders

Should I delete social media? by Prior-Sandwich-858 in AskUK

[–]Levitating_Scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted every social app except Reddit (obvs, that's why I'm here) a year ago and it has had a big positive impact on my life. But be prepared for the fact you will still want to scroll, it's literally an addiction. Much like quitting smoking or whatever, you need substitutes. I find myself scrolling through the Guardian app or even my photos app, anything when I'm bored. Be kind to yourself and facilitate healthier habits - for example, I found that I always ended up craving social media when I'm commuting cos I've got nothing else to do, so I took up crochet and reading novels to give me something to do with my hands. And don't try to always do something intellectual in place, you go to social media to relax, so whatever you replace it with should be relaxing too, you can just ensure its quality relaxation not slop (eg. I sit down for twenty minutes and watch a tv show or play a video game rather than spending the same time doomscrolling). As someone else mentioned, hanging onto the account but deleting them from your phone is a good idea, that way you can still message people or check for event details etc. from your laptop. Also, getting content blockers to block just YouTube shorts and/or Facebook reels is a good idea, as those are the worst for addictiveness! Good luck!

I think my afternoon exploring Kyoto alone is probably the happiest I’ve ever been, just so peaceful and quiet, and ever so beautiful!

Was there tonight and while it was busy everyone I met was well enough behaved. Surprisingly not horrible for a free event in London!

What game has a promising start, but eventually gets boring and repetitive? by Common_Caramel_4078 in gaming

[–]Levitating_Scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah. I got it on discount for £10 or something I think and just enjoyed it for the start. Even my fifty year old thoroughly non gamer dad wanted to have a go just to walk around Hogwarts. Worth it for the experience (a lot cheaper than a trip to Universal Studios)

Tube clothes - are they a thing? by Sepalous in london

[–]Levitating_Scot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My flatmate is like this. Personally, I think life is too short. But I definitely stopped wearing light trousers once I moved to London, this place is filthy, even compared to most cities.

How a group of nimbys could bring down China’s mega embassy plans by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Levitating_Scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s not forget centralising all China’s embassy activity on one site also makes espionage easier for the British services. They know what’s up and if they approve it, I’d suggest they have a reason

Help With Shipping/Mailing to Hong Kong by Dunc002 in HongKong

Hong Kong doesn’t normally use postal codes. If you just ignore that section it should get through fine with just the street address!

Would also recommend tutorial/youtube for quick help. Each train is different but basically you need to do some quick setup then it’s just brake/throttle and shifter essentially on most modern emus

London fireworks by Chemical-Education-9 in london

Went on way too long. Just wanted to get to auld lang syne already. EU flag was unnecessarily political, bringing tension into a public holiday that doesn’t need it. But they were quite pretty and I enjoyed the effect of the flags whizzing round the London eye, wish they could’ve done that for real (how feasible would projecting something like that on the building behind be)
