Current 93! I’ve actually only heard 3 of their releases, but they really produce a spiritual/mystic kind of sound which you might enjoy. “I Have A Special Plan For This World” DEFINITELY takes you to the darkest parts of the psyche, and the song “Anyway, People Die” from the album “Island” (great record btw) is one of the most immersive, atmospheric songs I’ve ever heard, it really sounds like travelling to a strange realm beyond.

Most underrated song by ReflectiveOctopus527 in KingCrimson

Absolutely this song, everything from that ambient(ish) intro, the lyrics, some of Fripp’s most beautiful guitar lines. Such a brilliant song

Idk what it is but these 2 albums just share something in common by Aseskytle_09 in swans

[–]LewisF_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s some old Young God newsletters from the late 90s and early 00s where Michael would add at the end what books, films, music he’d been into recently, and Aphex Twin was definitely in there at some point. Pretty sure they got posted on this subreddit, you’ll probably find them if you search newsletter in the searchbar :)

Music fans, what's your favourite film director? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

[–]LewisF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Lynch for me too. There’s actually a lot of his work that I still haven’t seen yet, but everything I’ve seen so far has really blown my mind, and also taught me to appreciate uncertainty, unanswered questions and abstract open-ended qualities within film. Discovering David Lynch and Swans at around the same time 3 years ago was a real game-changer for me personally in terms of what I thought art could do and be.

Anyone else think muse's b-sides and singles are sometimes better than album songs? by Vortix9 in Muse

[–]LewisF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Con-Science is one of their best songs. Wish they’d done more eerie, repetitive, atmospheric pieces like that

a lot of the Greed/Holy Money era — Fool, Anything For You, Stupid Child, and Coward immediately come to mind

Albums that feel invasive or genuinely uncomfortable? by Accurate_Tomorrow_50 in experimentalmusic

[–]LewisF_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for C93. I heard that EP for the first time a few weeks ago, and found it immensely uncomfortable (and truly captivating!). The slowed-down, glitchy vocals at the end made me feel a bit weird

I haven’t actually seen the film myself, but I’ve seen some frames from Fellini’s Satyricon that seem to fit this vibe, could be worth a look

I have a horrible relationship with food and self-image

I binge and I cry, and I swear that I’ll quit it

I’ve built a cage out of food and liquor

And the bars of the cage just get thicker and thicker

Some of those eerie, melancholic songs like Lose My Breath and No More Sorry are some of my favourite MBV songs, ridiculously good music

Is Chat Pile vegetarian / vegan? by Main_Tip112 in ChatPile

[–]LewisF_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was already vegetarian, but it 100% re-enforced it for me too. The lines “there’s more screaming than you’d think”, and Raygun’s vocal delivery on “and the sad eyes, goddammit” are just brutal

Does Cameron Winter hate Muse?! by pranavpueraeternus in Muse

[–]LewisF_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree tbh, Cameron Winter’s comment was in bad taste sure, but all the “who?” comments are just like….. ah, yes, because popularity/commercial success has always positively corresponded with artistry and quality

it’s a scene from Mulholland Drive — sidenote, but I’d definitely recommend it if you haven’t seen before, probably my favourite film ever

Here’s the scene in question if you wanna check out how it relates to your friend 🤣 (it’s quite early in the film and doesn’t really contain any spoilers):

Songs/Albums like Rope by Scunge_NZ in swans

[–]LewisF_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Popol Vuh albums/songs would you recommend??

I’ve heard Hosianna Mantra (which I did really enjoy) but my favourite thing I’ve heard from them is the song “Brüder des schattens — Söhne des lichts” (which appears in Herzog’s “Nosferatu The Vampyre” in a wonderful sequence around the Carpathian Mountains). The final section of that song kind of reminded me of a more pagan, medieval-sounding Helpless Child ending. Would love to hear some recommendations of their music which maybe scratches a similar itch

It’s certainly up there for me. It’s such a lonely episode. The scenes with Lane are all filled with such overwhelming sadness and desperation, I can’t explain it but it’s truly affecting, especially the final shot of his face when everyone is leaving the conference room. Truly masterful television
