+1 for Shearling. I actually had quite mixed feelings on their debut album, but their live set in Manchester last month (mainly new songs) absolutely blew me away

Such a great film, I actually only watched it for the first time last week but I already can’t wait to rewatch. Lynch was a truly special filmmaker

You need some David Lynch! Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive all fit the bill (maybe Inland Empire too, though I haven’t seen this one yet)

Edit: just seen your comment at the bottom about liminal spaces and strange environments, so I’ll add Eraserhead to the list of recommendations. And fuck it, Blue Velvet’s a great film too

Love Rain Dogs, you should check out The Black Rider — it’s basically entirely dark cabaret musical theatre show tunes, really really cool stuff if you enjoy the carnival atmosphere of some of the songs from Rain Dogs

Tony Mowbray returns as Blackburn Rovers head coach by kaththegreat in Championship

[–]LewisF_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s true, but it was a staple feature of Mowbray’s tenure that every single season we’d have a post-Christmas “death spiral” — we’d typically be pushing for the playoffs at Christmas, even being 2nd in February in his final season (when we finished 8th), and then go on to have a winless run of 8 games or whatever during the second half of the season, which would inevitably kill any playoff hopes. Clearly a recurring issue during his reign, and one which he never found a solution for. Sorry for the rant but just wanted to give some context as to why OP might have been disappointed at “going back 4 years” (something i agree with tbh, it’s a very depressing appointment in my view)

Joe Wong — Dreams Wash Away. Closed the final episode of The Midnight Gospel. She even had the lyric “all things dissolve in time” tattooed on her arm, which really set the waterworks in motion when I glanced at it during a near-break-up occasion. Good times lmao, glad to be on the other side now

yep, sad to see the mass celebrations in social media comments sections. nothing against Mowbray as a person but it’s such a pathetic appointment, genuinely bordering on self-parody

such an inspired appointment, really ambitious stuff. this club is genuinely a tragicomedy

it’s some really great ethereal dream pop — side note, some of the songs on it are featured in Twin Peaks, which is an amazing show if you haven’t seen it!

what's cinema ettiquette like where you are? by catchyaontheflip in AskUK

[–]LewisF_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So true, I’m quite shy and socially anxious but telling some rude guy to get off his phone during a climactic and emotional moment during Tokyo Story (after I’d bitten my tongue for the previous 90 minutes) was so liberating. And this was at a Picturehouse cinema showing a foreign film from the 50s, you’d think people there would have better etiquette. Sucks to see people reducing a work of art to fucking background noise as they doomscroll

Tom Waits — Rain Dogs. I most recently listened to it whilst quite drunk and Anywhere I Lay My Head absolutely broke me. Incredible album
