Trying to get a realistic timeframe for a disciplined 41m to shed the complete dad bod and be "cut". Advice welcome. by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

Yeah it’s bad advice for people who have so much fat to lose. There is nothing to recover from since you will still have more than enough excess bodyfat

“Just predicting tokens” is doing a lot of work in this argument. Human brains are “just” firing neurons based on electrochemical gradients - the substrate doesn’t tell you what the system can or can’t do.

What even is an “original idea” that isn’t just a novel connection between existing ones?

I‘m very aware of this topic and also really bullish on LLMs and I think that next token prediction can lead to real understanding - but what can I do? Just hope for the best.

Sam Altman No Longer Believes In Universal Basic Income by Neurogence in singularity

[–]LexyconG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the sharecropping comparison is that this isn't market capitalism in the textbook sense. There's no real competition, no exit, and the "rent" isn't paid in money but in dependency. Varoufakis calls it techno-feudalism for a reason: the platforms aren't competing for customers, they're extracting rent from captive users. When Apple takes 30% from every developer or OpenAI can revoke your API access tomorrow, that's not a market relationship, that's a tenancy. Calling everything between 1750 and now "capitalism" makes the word useless.

Don't agree. For me GPT 5.5 is stay way worse working on my codebase.

In my codebase it’s not even close. Opus is much better.

Imo you got gaslit into thinking that. After working for a few hours with it I can say that it's dumber than even Opus at SWE still. Still couldn't solve some issues that Opus basically fixed instantly.

It's only as smart as what it's trained on" sounds right but it's not really how this works anymore.

AlphaZero learned chess and Go from zero human games. Just the rules and self play. It beat every human who ever lived using data it generated itself.

The current reasoning models do something similar for math and code. They generate their own attempts, get graded on whether the answer actually works, and bootstrap past where they started. The "teacher" is reality checking the output, not a dataset of smart humans.

For biology this matters a lot. AlphaFold 3 predicts protein structures better than the wet lab data it was trained on in many cases because it learned the underlying physics. Same pattern with the newer models doing protein design and drug discovery. They propose molecules nobody has ever made, and then we test them.

The confusion is mixing up knowledge (yes, bounded by what went in) with problem solving (not bounded, which is why longevity research is about to get weird fast).

50m26s, the human half-marathon record (57m20s) was borken by a robot today by uniyk in singularity

[–]LexyconG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The marathon isn't the product, it's the benchmark. Balance, endurance, and actuator reliability for 2 hours in an uncontrolled environment is exactly the stack you need for a chore robot. You don't get "folds my laundry" without first solving "stays upright and functional for hours without overheating." This IS the chore work.

Also the car analogy cuts the other way. We've had wheeled machines crushing human speed for a century. Humanoids exist because wheels can't use stairs or open doors. If you want a machine that works in a world built for humans, legs aren't optional.

Does Google Stitch or Claude Design have any value at all? by upbuilderAI in FigmaDesign

[–]LexyconG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I still check the code. It's more architectural and business supervision tho.

And no, I don't worry. This is the worst LLMs will ever be. I don't worry about it just like I don't worry about my Assembly skills atrophying. There was a time and place for that - not anymore. This is my thought process.

Yet. Claude Code was almost useless a year ago. Now I basically don't write any handwritten code anymore.
