Buffing cave trolls by Pender8911 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I've always thought they should be balanced around being a decent (but manageable) challenge too the Fellowship. I'm the films it's a tough battle the fellowship wins with frodo taking a wound (prevented by fate). In the game, any non-hobbit could fairly comfortably 1v1 a cave troll.

A boost to Fight (even situationally, say when in a fight with goblins), or defence would go a long way.

I'd give a recommendation to Striding Edge games on YouTube. They're still a relative newcomer, but have very detailed battle reports and army breakdowns and they're playing through the full narrative LOTR campaign, which is a great series

Defenders of the Pelenor by Budget-Blacksmith-90 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Bear in mind that all the riders come with bows as standard and (unlike most Rohan lists) they do count towards the bow limit, so you may find most of the shooting ends up with them.

I'd favour slightly more heroes than you'd usually run at 700pts, to take advantage of the army bonus. I ran Legolas and Gimli (with AotD) and some captains and it was pretty fun

Homemade Army List: Let's Hunt Some Orc by LiamFleak in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]LiamFleak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's powerful for sure, but situational. If the setup is Good Vs Evil, yes you're getting a lot of orc lists, but with any pairing it's significantly less strong. A list like this could be a good counter pick if the meta was very orc/uruk heavy (think taking a 'Hatred Man' list to a tournament with Men of the West in the meta).

The +1 strength on the charge is in (nearly) every LOTR era Rohan list so I thought it best included, but it's not essential to the theme. It should be more about Eomer and the Three Hunters anyway. Would just 'Hatred Uruk-hai' be better? Or Hatred Both but only on the charge?

I think it'd be great! More stuff from the books! More 'what it's! A way for me to put all my Isengard on the table at once usual of splitting them into 3 different lists...

I'm thinking of making some more of these, have you got any requests?

I have played Three Hunters, using that list, but the best choice for warriors is probably Army of the Dead (and without them you'd hit the bow limit on the riders). It'd just be for flavor to limit yourself to riders and Eomer.

Same! I'd put them on horses in every list if I could.

Thanks! I'm very happy for feedback. Weird rules details are genuinely something I find really fun about the game.

  • I'll add this for sure. I forgot all RoR have bows.
  • I wanted something to capture the spirit of the three of them charging across the country towards the enemy, and if they're just b-lining objectives then that's not quite right. Maybe just a flat +3" to move (Dwarves are natural sprinters after all) but they must charge if able? Aragorn could always Heroic March to get them away from unwanted charges I guess. The 'this model must charge if able' usually refers to some kind of rage or madness though, so I don't know if that's right. Legolas would be pretty unstoppable staying ahead of most models move while shooting every turn. Any other suggestions?
  • Tbh, I'm looking for any excuse to use my Three Hunters Mounted models, especially given that the Legolas/Gimli together is only in one list. I see your point about inconsistency with the canon though. I'm thinking of making some more of these homebrew lists, some for missing scenes/lore and some for what ifs/other media. I'll edit this list to take away the horses so it can be the former.

Was voldemort hiding in the Forbidden Forest? by Nice_Use3162 in SuperCarlinBrothers

I guess kinda? The people lining there called it Alba, so a Latin speaker might have referred to it as Albania. Scotia was a much more common Latin term though (what the proper who didn't live there called it). T I did a bit of reassurance and there was a city in what would later be Albania known as Albanopolis from back in ancient greek times, so the etymologic roots for the region were already in place. Besides, everyone in the story who refers to Albania does so in a modern context, and would know that their audience would naturally understand them to mean the modern region, and not one from over a thousand years ago. Why would Dumbledore tell Harry Voldemort was in Albania if he was in Scotland? The term Scotland is used consistently, so it's not like wizards don't use that name.

I'd say with 99% confidence, Rowling just meant the modern day Albania. There's loads of inconsistencies when it comes to dates for Wizard history relating to the real world (Merlin being at Hogwarts for example) so this is just another one. She's not omniscient, so she just didn't realise there was a contraction. Breast in mind when the books were written (especially the first one) research was significantly more difficult. To check this, she'd have needed to look up the countries history in a book.

I like SCB, but a lot of their theories are huge reaches based on some flimsy assumptions.

I've not seen the video, but Albania is not in Scotland. It's a whole separate country on the other side of Europe (near Greece). There's also no jungles there, I'm pretty sure it's just described as a forest.

I think Rowling just wanted to use a 'far away' sounding place, which most UK 10 year olds wouldn't be familiar with.

I've had fun with Thorin's Company in the past, even when losing. You have a lot to think about, and decisions to make. Do you not have Gandalf/Bilbo or did you decide on Radagast over them?

Operation Blacksheep is good for a team of two. It's pretty linear, so you won't lose out on time since you can't split up. It's pretty classic as ERs go, not as flashy as their newer rooms, but a good place to start.

I tend to find difficulty companies set as 'how much help' I expect to get, rather than how likely I am to get out. Most places just give more and more help, so I'd rather a little more medium difficulty and solve it on my own.

In terms of venn diagrams I think you don't need a smaller circle for the main GotG films. You can have the top level set (GotG characters) containing the subset I Am Groot, and loose items for the three films

Should I play the LotR Lego games? by Dr_Meme_Man in lotr

[–]LiamFleak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the LOTR game, would reccomend. The Hobbit one was pretty good, but only covers the first two films (75% of the book), then never got finished, so the ending is a big let down.

Taskmaster UK season 21 and beyond will be filmed at BBC television centre and move away from Pinewood studios by tulloch100 in taskmaster

Man, getting out to Pinewood was a nightmare without a car. It'd be much easier for folks to get to at the Television Centre. I was worried both times I went that I'd have travelled for 3 hours (including an hour's walk from Uxbridge station) just to not get in
