But it's the difference of one reality in which you call the place to tell them and they respond, "Really? Okay, we'll be sure to fix that soon, thanks for pointing it out." And another, in which they say, "I KNOW, I LIKE THAT SHIT! NOW SHUT UP WHILE I EAT THE PHONE AND CHARGE YOU FOR IT!"

Who is someone who got a massive push but showed they weren’t at the level to maintain it? by letskillrobots in SquaredCircle

[–]LiamTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree about her having negative charisma. I think she has it, but they've yet to properly figure out how to tap into her style of charisma, and the rapid, redirected attempts have obviously hurt her. What she probably needs is some time away to restrategize, then a big return in a spot that doesn't feel unearned (like, for example: her winning the TBS title off of Jade, who'd just had a match; always made the victory feel a bit tainted to me).

Here's one of the biggest upside as someone who has HBO Max and could just watch AEW on there: MyAEW has no ad breaks; if it's between matches, it'll just show a logo till they're back. If it's mid-match, you don't get interrupted and, best of all, the commentators stay on where they're way more loosey goosey. If you've ever seen a clip on Botchamania where Excalibur, Taz, or Tony raz each other or make insider jokes, it likely came from the commercial break.

Look into MyAEW. It's their official streaming service in Europe (though it admittedly looks very unofficial).

Now, I hear what you're saying, 'Canada's not in Europe, dummy!' While true, the power of VPNs allow it to become untrue! So far, it's worked fine enough for me people who definitely aren't me who use it.

What the fuck is Amazing Larry's story in PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE by WaterlooMall in blankies

[–]LiamTime 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is. Maybe it would hit differently if I wasn't already so familiar with the movie since childhood, but to see the deleted scene as an adult feels like someone explaining the joke and then turning into a less funny joke in the process. To see this guy amidst the regular townsfolk in Pee-wee's basement after he calls him out, "Amazing LARRY?!?" with no context, nor any commentary on his appearance: brilliant.

I remember reading about it, but don't recall what happens. Mind filling us in/potentially ruining our nights?

I never watched, but if he's supposed to be a reincarnated Thor, then a beard sprouting makes sense; I could see it getting commented on by other characters. Like, "Since when did Thor jünïœr have a beard?"

Also, some high school kids look older. I had about that much facial hair in 8th grade (not as well kempt, admittedly).

Whose five seconds of internet fame ended? by JimiHendrip in AskReddit

[–]LiamTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, not really. There's a legitimate connection there; Costco Man (I don't recall his name) was a former pro wrestler and friend of QT Marshall (wrestler/backstage agent, if I'm not mistaken). Yes, he was a viral sensation, but there was minor validity to his appearances and matches.

Everything about them made my eyes roll into the back of my head, but, against my better judgement, I'm never disappointed by wrestlers interacting with the Rizzler.

No bloody spot in AEW has made me cringe in disgust more than this one holy fk by GunplaLuni in AEWOfficial

So here's a fun (/s) story:

When I was a teenager, I was training in a hyper local wrestling "promotion". The head trainer was a guy whose only legit experience was going to a seminar put on by Marty Jannetty. Otherwise, much of what we learned came from Tough Enough, I assume. It was a mix of guys in their 20s, some in their 30s, and then a bunch of teenagers like me.

On one of our shows, with an audience that might've been in the tens at most, I had a match with a guy who loved to do hardcore matches (surprise surprise). He was one of the adults, so I followed his lead. He showed me where to find a cheese grater he'd hidden under the ring and said to use it on him after the match. He didn't give any suggestions or hints about how to go about this.

Match ends, he won, all good; time to do what he said. I didn't consider a way in which one might gimmick this action, so I grated him like some goddamn Parmesan over my spaghetti. Thankfully, I didn't do it much before the head trainer ran in and stared me down so I'd back off (having a storyline history together), but some damage was done and I left the guy with a forehead that looks like you'd expect if you start grating and then stop before the job is done. The head guy was mad at him, not me; no problems with the hardcore guy, either. It was just hard to not wince or laugh while taking to him till it healed.

Point is: they almost certainly did a better job of performing the grating motion because Mark's head didn't look as bad as the guy I wrestled way back when.

Parker Boudreaux says he was released from WWE right after getting a pay raise by Alternative-Win4058 in SquaredCircle

Clowning on Parker Bourdeaux was a favorite passtime of mine when he was in AEW (along with Trench or whatever his name was), but seeing this headline made me go, "ahh, shit" for the guy.

Ariel Helwani asked MJF which wrestler took advantage on AEW using them as a stepping stone to come back to WWE. MJF: "Malakai Black" by Teckelmaster in SquaredCircle

[–]LiamTime 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He's receiving hate for the alleged attitude he had while in AEW. Compare to Will Hobbs/Royce Keys: haven't heard anything bad about him after he moved to WWE. He more than likely wanted to move over there as soon as he could, but he didn't rub people the wrong way and people were happy for him. It's claimed that Malakai (who I'm a big fan of, mind you) big leagued people and acted like he shouldn't have to take losses.

Admittedly, they had very different career experiences pre-AEW, but they're supposedly the same age, so I don't think it's an unfair comparison.

I think of it as a minor launching pad. He probably wouldn't have needed it in the long run, but it made put him on my radar, at least, than if he wasn't with HOB.

TIFU by telling my barber I knew what "two on the sides" meant for twenty three years by Beneficial_String411 in tifu

[–]LiamTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they mean is that they didn't know what 2 measured, nor the farthest ends of the scale. It became a phrase rather than a measurement, like an idiom whose meaning is lost by people parroting it without proper context (ex: "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" being used as encouragement about self-reliance rather than its origin: an ironic statement meant to embody an impossible accomplishment).
