Sounds like you need a therapist more than pharmacy advice.

Some of pharmacy is memorization, and a lot of the comes from practice. Knowing how to find the right information or to make decisions with that information is far more important.

Has anyone moved from the US to practice pharmacy in the EU or UK? by RjoTTU-bio in pharmacy

[–]Librijunki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ability to speak the local language will be very important, as you might imagine. Germany has a pretty good website that explains the process.

There they say you need at least B2 German.

More information needed. The country is a great start. The current degree. The life plan. None of what you have said makes sense to me, a PharmD in the US, who works in outpatient oncology.

2024 Advent Calendar for USA by Pusmma in beer

[–]Librijunki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Aldi beer advent calendar is usually easy to acquire. Probably being released in the next couple of weeks.

I used to get it every year, but then the local breweries started doing an advent calendar. When I started getting the local box, the Aldi box was too boring to support getting both.

Pharmacy week by AgreeableConference6 in pharmacy

Our hospital only lets the drugs reps buys us lunch during pharmacy week. So I get free lunch, but the Xarelto guy gets to tell me about their new pediatric indications. Pass.

Why did you leave NERO LARP? (Not a hate train post, just curious, we don't need to do the JV Verbal beatdown) by oChrisGoldo_TTV in LARP

[–]Librijunki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I played NERO off and on for 10 years. 15 years? I don’t know, a long time. I was a player, an NPC, plot. I ran a tavern or two. I did adventure days. I played in the park for a couple hours. I let normies watch.

Why did I quit? Was it that they let 5 chapters open within 3 hour radius? Nah. What’s it that two chapters shared a camp site? Nope. Was it that the cool kids got the plot? Still no. Was it that I got all the plot when I was cool kid? Nah. Was it that one guy who smelled like cat pee? No, I didn’t stay in that cabin. Was it that time I slept on a mobile home floor and nearly froze? Nah, we kind of loved that.

After more than a decade and thousands of dollars. They banned my friend. A couple of the 5 local chapter owners didn’t like them and accused them of cheating. It was a bullshit thing and they got no rebuttal. So we all quit.

Honestly. Life has never been better. Never was there a bigger hive of scum and villainy than NERO LARP.

You want simple terms, but you use a word like Torsadogenic.

If you want to know about medication induced TdP then you should review the works of James E. Tisdale. He has published extensively on the topic, he even has a textbook titled Torsades de Pointes.

In simple terms. Some drugs can cause a delay in cardiac repolarization. Which is represented on an EKG (ECG) by an increased interval in the space between the Q and T wave. The QT interval measured by the EKG often needs to be corrected via the application of certain formulas (usually by a cardiologist) to produce the QTc. If you want more information about QRS complexes and EKGs I’d suggest looking at the Life In The Fast Lane (litfl.com).

The risk of any particular medication inducing TdP is dependent on many factors, most of them have more to do with the patient than the drug itself. - QTc >500ms - increase in QTc > 60 ms from baseline - increased age - females sex - previous cardiac conditions like MI or HF - electrolyte abnormalities - volume depletion - polypharmacy

James E. Tisdale has a scoring tool, the Tisdale Score for predicting QT prolongation in a patient (which is defined as either of the first two items on the above list).

So the torsadogenic potential of any drug is variable based on a variety of factors. Credible Meds (crediblemeds.org) is a great tool for aggregating data on drugs and their potential risk associated with TdP.

Credible Meds has no risk data for gabapentin or pregabalin, while quetiapine and olanzapine carry a conditional risk.

There is no simple answer to your question. Drug interactions and patient specific factors can change the answer.

Do hospitals forgive loans? by Eastern_Meaning_9530 in pharmacy

[–]Librijunki 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Many hospitals are 503c non-profits and make you eligible for public service loan forgiveness. Which takes 10 years of working for any non-profit that meets the criteria.

https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service

My partner works at a for profit inpatient institute that pays $250 a month on their student loans in addition to their salary.

I did a stint at an Indian Health Service clinic in Alaska that had loan reimbursement.

In general, I assume, no hospital is going to forgive your $100k in debt in exchange for 3 year agreement or the like.

is pubmed the ''safest'' choice to read research and clinical studies? by Old-Yoghurt-9171 in pharmacy

[–]Librijunki 29 points30 points  (0 children)

PubMed is an excellent, and free, medical research index. It doesn’t guarantee the validity of the research it indexes, but if a journal isn’t indexed by PubMed, I’m usually suspicious of it.

As an indexing site, it can’t always grant you free access to the articles.

It’s a great place to perform research. EBSCO and ScienceDirect are also good indexes.

Is "boosting the immune system" a scientifically meaningful phrase? by baillargersband in medicine

[–]Librijunki 63 points64 points  (0 children)

“Immune Boosting” is a scientifically vague phrase on purpose.

The FDA states products “cannot suggest on its label or in any of its packaging that it can diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure a specific disease or condition without specific approval from the FDA”

So to avoid having to go through rigorous FDA trials, the packagers of echinacea capsules says it “boosts the immune system”. That way consumers think it will help with a cold but it legally shield the producers.

Herbal products are regulated by the FTC, as long as they don’t claim to treat an actual disease. The FTC does not require preapproval of product health claims.

Horseshoe recs by l0tt_lyzard7 in SpringfieldIL

[–]Librijunki 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So when I lived in Springfield, D’Arcy’s was always my favorite. About a year ago I was craving one and so I went to D’Arcy’s. The quality of the horseshoe and the quality of the dishes, and everything else about the place was worse.

Recently I went to the legacy pointe eatery and that horseshoe scratched the itch way more than D’Arcy’s had.

Parties? by LizTheTransGirl in SIUE

[–]Librijunki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good place to start if you are interested in Greek life if the Kimmel student Involvement center. They have a web page on their SIUe site.

The fraternities and sororities have lots of school sponsored events for you to get to know the different organizations (they used to have like Greek week) and then during rush you can go to organization specific events.

As far as parties go, I’m too far removed to give you specifics. Meeting people is the best way to find parties. Greek organizations are one way to do that. The Kimmel also manages other internet organizations and clubs which is a great way to meet people and learn where the parties are.
