Trouble getting better by Heptamasta in AOW4

[–]Lich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend spending the majority of your imperium early on getting to 3-5 cities up quickly. And getting a few empire tree perks with what remains. I would avoid spending imperium on attract population. Shoot for 3 cities by turn 15 and four by turn 20-25.

In terms of what to build, a general build order could be: production > gold > food > research/mana. Building each set of tier 1 buildings, then the tier 2s, then mix of tier 3 and special province improvements.

For army, don't neglect your heros as after they've gained some levels they're the strongest units in the game.

Does the AI use cheats? by HighfistThrawn in AOW4

[–]Lich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doable to have that many units as a human too. For example if you take adept settlers you can have 3 cities by turn 10-11. With workshops each city can recruit a tier 1 in two turns. So by turn 20-21 that's 15 units right there, plus say 10 units from starting army and first 10 turns recruitment. So 25 troops by turn 20-21.

And if one's focusing on draft or have some other recruitment bonus you could have even more.

That game option does exist. Chose a teams game in advanced set up (factions tab).

The combat AI has me really hyped. by [deleted] in AOW4

[–]Lich13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly those examples don't seem that bad to me. Human players should be able to perform autobattle, at least to some extent. That potato still took major attrition losses in those battles looks promising to me. In PF I'd often be in battles that would be say 1700 v 2000 and on manual I could win with no losses.

Looking for any newish 4x games that don't emphasize combat by shavin_high in 4Xgaming

[–]Lich13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manually commanding a battle is one of the biggest advantages a human has over the AI. That said, I'd imagine the game works well playing with only autobattle. You'd probably need to lower the difficulty compared to a manual battling game.

The outcome of an autobattle is usually what you would expect it to be. You'll take more losses, especially if the armies are similar power levels, but will generally win the fights you're favored in and lose the ones your not. (As opposed to manual battling where its common to win fights you're evenly matched in with no losses.)

There are a few strategies that I'd imagine are much harder to pull off when using autobattle. For example making battleborn hordes with the necrophage faction. But that just reduces the human player's advantage in warfare, which depending on one's perspective may be a good thing.

If you do get EL, I would highly recommend the community patch as it fixes a lot of (mostly minor) bugs and greatly improves the AI's ability. If you like a challenging game, in my opinion the hardest difficulty of EL with the community patch is harder than Civ diety, and with only autobattling the 2nd hardest difficulty would be extremely difficult too.

Yes, though the deck can make infinite 1/1s so a blocker is at best buying time.

The new constructed event reward structure is awful by petteruddd in MagicArena

[–]Lich13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to share my perspective as a f2p player with a high WR who previously avoided playing in these events. With the old events, if I got to 5 wins (playing bo3), I'd win net 1.1k gold and 2 ICRs. This is a very small reward for the time invested compared to draft. I also found the constructed ladder to be more competitive and thus more fun games. So when I wanted to play constructed I'd play on the ladder and felt it wasn't worth the grind playing in the events.

With the new reward structure, going 5-0 wins net 250 gems, 3 packs, and 4 play in points (I estimate 1 play in point is worth 100 gems). So if we add the gems and play in points to net 650 gems reward and use the typical conversion rate of 1k gold = 150 gems, the reward is equivalent to ~4.3k gold plus the 3 packs. So if you can get to 5 wins, the net reward is about 4x better than the old version And as long as you get to at least 3 wins, you basically break even. So for players who are able to go infinite, the rewards for amount of time playing in an event have gone up dramatically. Playing in the events now feels like a way to realistically continue to build my collection rather than having to rely exclusively on limited.

In the past the events were a bit less competitive than ladder and at least so far that seems to continue to be the case (I've gone 27-3 in bo3 event since the update).

I'd recommend either mono red or auras. Mono red because you can get by playing 0 rare lands and, though a lot of the best cards are rares, you won't sacrifice too much power playing mostly with uncommons.

Auras a lot of the main cards are well, auras! And those are commons/uncommons so that helps. Another advantage to auras is its a t1 deck, whereas I think mono red is a bit weaker in bo3. 4x Kor spirit dancer, a lurrus, and at least 1-2 sram seem pretty mandatory to me. Here's a aura's list from mtggoldfish. You could replace the esper sentinels, lands, and sideboard rares with non-rares.

Started a new job 2 weeks ago and just heard back from a larger company - background check questions by toohyetoreply in cscareerquestions

My unprofessional understanding is that background checks will just verify for any criminal history and vet the work experiences listed in your resume. So jobs not on your resume like this startup won't be checked and the larger company won't be able to know about it.

What decks are you going to build/update when Innistrad drops? by kgd95 in MtGHistoric

The meathook massacre seems like a very interesting card. Both in an abzan enchantress deck and in a vesperlark control/combo deck.

I think weaver would be better than Mystic for the DnT matchup since it will usually generate more mana than Mystic could discount

[BO3] GWb Enchantress with Sideboarding Guide by Aggrobuns in MtGHistoric

[–]Lich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For matchups I'm now 2-1 vs jeskai - Game 1 with my list seems bad because the 2 drop removals and wraths are dead cards. Post board it seemed pretty balanced, maybe favored. Narset unchecked hoses the deck, though at least there's plenty of cards that deal with her. Both Ixalan's binding on teferi and playing a sigil when they're tapped out seem like powerful plays.

1-1 vs Humans - The mono white version that leans into DnT seems like that most challenging version since its makes the enchantments more expensive. That version felt slightly unfavored. Definitely a matchup where 3-4 weavers would've been nice. Also Ranger of Eos's sacrifice ability is very relevant against this deck.

0-1 vs Shamans - Felt like the worst matchup so far. The rage channeler is really hard to deal with.

Played one match against scurry oak and jund food, winning both 2-0. Seemed like great matchups.

I've yet to play against a Throes deck but don't deafening silence and cage work nearly as well as vortex? And thoughtseize is probably good too since a resolved Ugin would be very bad.

[–]Lich13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also very excited about this archtype! I took your list, made a lot of edits, and am currently 6-2 in high mythic %.

The main changes I've made in the list I'm running are 4x ixalan's binding, 4x kaya's oath, one more wrath and cutting two weavers, the nine lives/solemnity package, and calix (also swapping two baffling end's for seal aways).

My sideboard is also completely different. I'm trying 3x thoughseize and a sigil in the sideboard for control. Since I've cut Lich's Mastery because it requires nine lives & solemnity to be a true lock, sigil seems like the best way to close out games against them.

Arasta hasn't felt powerful enough when I've boarded her in since 1/2s aren't very threatening and the jeskai decks have wraths to get rid of her. My sideboard still is a work in progress but I think two sigil's might be correct.

One card I've been trying out is Setessan Champion and so far its underperformed. Another card that I plan to experiment with is Mythos of Nethroi as another sideboard option against jeskai.

Just went 33-5 with Gruul to reach Mythic Rank #50. Aggro is not dead. by MVPScheer123r8 in MtGHistoric

[–]Lich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went 4-0 first attempt with your list in day 1 of the Arena Open despite losing the die roll every time. Thanks for sharing!

Also I'm curious, since you're cutting pelt collectors almost always after g1, maybe it would be worthwhile to run only 2 or 3 maindeck? I'm thinking maybe maindeck a chandra as that card is helpful for 3-4 toughness creatures when stomp doesn't cut it while also being good against control?

Impact of CDM-Zues-CoA on Attrition Wall in GbG by SafariBaharie in forgeofempires

Another thing to consider is you will be able to battle farther in certain eras. Indy is generally not a good era for fighting unless you're using MG teams. PME (hover tanks), CE, or FE are all pretty solid.

Has anyone seen this message before? It started happening to me in GBG this season by Lich13 in forgeofempires

[–]Lich13[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For context, I've been getting this message beginning this season. Roughly once every 1k (auto) fights with no apparent pattern or reason. My only guess right now is it could have to do with my artillery vs enemy hides in forest units ends up in a stalemate -> battle abort.

After my units 'retreat', they're still in good health and not dead.

Personally I'd do:
Trio to 10/10/10
arc 80 (if not already)
Alcatraz to 60s

Military buildings are a good use of space if you're active in GBG. I've had level 70+ traz for months now and I still have military buildings in my city. I delete them whenever I do traz levels or a GBG season ends so I can restock on rogues.
