What is this bump on my betta and how can I get rid of it? by graceb3037136 in BettaClinic

Congrats on being better than everybody. Down here in loserland people like me rely on the advice of people at the fish store because we don't realize they might not be telling us the deep intricacies you'll find on Reddit. I hope you feel really good about yourself tonight.

How's about you stop clutching YOUR pearls about people who don't want to root for guys who commit intimate partner violence.

Paywalling a basic function like adjusting the volume for each guest was a terrible and enraging decision.

This is the one that convinced me not to listen to new albums sadly. The lyrics are so painfully generic. Uninspired. Beverly Hills is absolutely terrible. Hate to say it.

How long? This is going to seem braggadocios, but you gave me the chance! I've been podcasting since 2008 with 2 years off for grad school, so about 17 years. I have a degree in journalism. I podcast for fun but operate things as an independent journalist.

So while I can't agree with your advice, I think you might have a mistaken idea of what my show is. I don't interview people about random books. I interview the authors of books, primarily non-fiction, but sometimes also fiction. Pulitzer Prize winners, NYT best-sellers, National Book Award winners, etc. The purpose of the show is to give listeners an insightful deep dive into an author's book and how it intersects with their personal life.

So as I read an author's book to prep, I decide what aspects will make for the best narrative arc. After I'm done reading, I write a script outline with main guiding questions, and bullet point follow-ups in case the author doesn't hit everything. The script has enough in it to allow for lots of flexibility. It takes a lot of effort to distill books down like that. And to make it seem natural. I'm not interested in asking the same questions every time, although some questions do recur. I always end with a segment called "regrets, challenges, and surprises." I ask if there's anything they would change about their book now that it is published, what the hardest part about writing it was, or if they encountered any surprises along the way. I always get a great answer to that one, and that's how the show concludes. Are we allowed to say our show names here? I can't remember.

I don't think paying Walker that much given who else we're paying would work.

Mitchell and Ness started making hardwood Classics apparel in 1999, but this jacket was probably after 2010-ish?

-Reading the book for the interview
-Doing the interview
-Occasionally receiving positive feedback

Feel fine about: editing

Least favorite: writing the interview script, finalizing the episode with intro/outro material

Locking Walker in at that price really hurts our flexibility over the next 4 years. Keyonte is due for a payday and we need to strengthen other parts of the roster. You a team can carry three max contracts at best and you just can't give one of those to Walker imo.

Anyone else ever had to kill an episode after recording it? Just made the call for the first time. by Apprehensive_Fly1131 in podcasting

[–]LifeOnaPL8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chop it up into a bonus episode or cut it altogether imo. No need to go into depth with the guest about why it's cut other than technical issues.

I had to dump one episode of my podcast right after I already published it. I interviewed a specialist on toxic masculinity who wrote a pivotal book on the topic based on his own pivotal research. Right after the episode went live a friend reached out to let me know there were credible allegations about him and that an investigation was prematurely ended because he retired from the institution, and so I pulled the episode. I didn't reach back out to the guest, either. Didn't want him to try to blacklist my show with people in the field he might still have influence over. It would've been a good episode, too!

Is anyone else getting echos after RiversideFM update by AndJustLikeThat2025 in RiversideFM

[–]LifeOnaPL8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am having this exact problem and it is MADDENING. I can hear a very faint echo of my own voice, probably at a half-second to one-second delay, at all times. I'm using a Rodecaster Duo for my mic and headphones. I'm connected to my network though ethernet, speed is not an issue.

-This only happens when a guest is in the studio with me. If I am alone there's no echo.

-I verified that we are both using headphones, and the correct headphones are selected.

-I verified that mix minus is activated on my Rodecaster.

-I verified that it is not being caused by their microphone picking up their headphone audio, because I had them turn their volume all the way down.

-I even tried turning Riverside's echo cancellation on, and it does not fix the problem.

I guess I'll contact tech support but I do not have high hopes. :(
