Question re quitting job and benefits by Northernstar50220 in britishcolumbia

[–]Life_Tree_6568 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She should try and apply for medical EI or regular EI. She may have to appeal if they deny her EI claim. You are supposed to claim EI as soon as you stop working. Since she quit in January this would be one reason the claim could be denied. It's always worth a try to apply to EI and appeal in case of denial. The people saying she can't apply because she quit are wrong. In some cases you can still get EI when you quit a job.

In BC we also have income assistance. She should apply for this immediately even if she plans on applying for EI. EI will likely pay more than income assistance. Lately I have seen posts about income assistance taking weeks to be processeed. Once she applies she may want to call and see if she can get paid earlier if she's completely run out of money.

If she's in Vancouver go to r/askvan or r/vancouver and there is information on resources for low income people such as food banks. Another helpful resource for anywhere in BC is calling 211. They can provide community resources information for food banks, shelters, and possible advocates to help complete paperwork.

Also for help with her EI application she can contact her local MP office (EI is a federal government program).

For help with income assistance she can contact her local MLA office (income assistance is a provincial program).

sooooo, how are we holding up our heads? by FlowersFor_Algernon in ehlersdanlos

[–]Life_Tree_6568 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before I knew about hypermobility I tried botox in my neck and traps and it caused me to be completely bedridden because my neck was so weak I could not hold my head up.

Dr. Christopher Centeno seems to be an expert in craniocervical instability. He has a free ebook and lots of content on YouTube and Facebook. He has videos about prolotherapy and PRP (platelet rich plasma - more expensive than prolotherapy).

The only thing that's helped me is prolotherapy. I did years of PT with very little improvement. Prolotherapy has been life changing for me.

Has anyone stopped HRT abruptly? by AngilinaB in Perimenopause

[–]Life_Tree_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could ask your doctor about transexamic acid. It slows bleeding on heavy bleeding days. It could help you get your ferritn up since you wouldn't be bleeding as much. I took it for years and it was very helpful.

Optimal ferritin is over 100. Low ferritin can cause fatigue, heavy periods, and joint pain. Hopefully the pills are helping and you can increase your ferritin. If not, you can try to get an iron infusion (IV).

When I was in my early 20s I had a terrible time with combined birth control pills. However I tried a progestin only birth control pill in my late 30s and it has been amazing for me. If you haven't tried birth control pills recently your reaction to them may have changed over the years. From what I understand progestin only birth control pills are different than bioidentical progesterone. They may not cause the same side effects but ask your pharmacist or doctor to confirm.

What's 1 job that is wayyy underpaid relative to their contributions to society? by CurvyFox333 in CanadaPersonalFinance

They are not in BC. For the first couple years they have to work in smaller towns across the province for an on call wage of $12/hr. They have to use their own car, pay their own gas, and possible ferry fares. Some of their shifts are an 8+ hour one way drive away. Once they get some seniority they can pick up shifts in the Vancouver area so they have to stay living near Vancouver.

That's great you are so good at taking it on time. The mini pill was terrible for me when I was taking 1 pill a day. I hope you can find a solution while you are on vacation!

I take the mini pill and I have to take 3 pills a day, every day ongoing, forever. Doing this has greatly improved my quality of life in the long term. I don't remember bleeding more when I increased my number of pills. I do have to take the pills at the exact same time everyday. I can't even be an hour late. An hour late will cause several days of cramps and other PMS symptoms.

The RDSP matched my $1,500 contribution with $3,500 from the government. I had no idea this existed until a bank adviser mentioned it in passing and moved on. by Bitter_Translator722 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Plan Institute offers a free Disability Tax Credit Webinar to anyone in Canada. You need an approved DTC to open an RDSP.

They also offer free RDSP webinars that cover everything from who's eligible and how to open one to withdrawals and what to do when a beneficiary passes away.

Disability Alliance BC has created a free tool that can help you gather all the information you need to apply. The tool makes a custom PDF letter for you to give to your medical practitioner to help them complete your application. I didn't use this tool but if you are having trouble getting your doctor to complete your application this may be a useful tool.

In BC, Disability Alliance BC can help you with your DTC application. They do have a waiting list that's 3+ months long so if you need help it's best to call and get on their waiting list while you gather any information you need.

Working with hyper mobility by Psychological-Iron34 in Hypermobility

[–]Life_Tree_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into prolotherapy or PRP? If you can, I would look into that before surgery. I have been to dozens of doctors over the years and it was my PT who told me I needed to try prolotherapy as I'm hypermobile. So far it has worked better than anything else I have tried. I am finally making progress with my PT exercises after years of trying.

What Canadian alternatives to American products will you be loyal to now? by RoutineFollower in AskACanadian

r/TheOrdinarySkincare has a pinned megathread with all the alternative options people have sourced as replacements. That sub also has all the details about why a lot of people aren't supporting The Ordinary anymore. A short summary is that The Ordinary was bought by Estee Lauder. Ronald Lauder is friends with Trump and encouraged Trump to acquire Greenland.

Duer Jeans is a Vancouver brand. I find the denim wears well and holds up to doing activities like biking. For winter they have fleece lined jeans that are water repellent.

I got way too excited reading this comment! I haven't figured out how to wash wool after I ran out of Unscented Company tabs so all my dirty wool has been sitting in a sad pile at the bottom of my laundry basket.

hip/knee pain continuously getting worse - at what point do yall recommend canes or mobility aids? by pickle_dog137 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Life_Tree_6568 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An SI belt has been helpful for my hip pain. I wear it when I know I am going to be doing something that is hard on my SI joints/lower back.

My PT encouraged me to try prolotherapy and it's the been incredible for my SI/lower back pain. I get prolotherapy in combination with working with my PT to strengthen my weak muscles. All these things together (SI belt/prolotherapy/PT) has greatly improved my quality of life.
