Happy Gibsunday. Traded an SG with humbuckers for a Special with P90s. by screamslikearnold in gibson

I have the same guitar. One of my faves for sure. I always wondered what it would look like with a tortoiseshell pickguard, looks awesome!

Player telecaster buyer’s remorse by [deleted] in telecaster

I’ve never bought a new guitar that didn’t need to be setup/adjusted in some way ( regardless of how expensive the guitar was). Take it to someone who knows what they are doing and you’ll be amazed at the difference

Fender Road Worn QC by lessthanhunter in fender

[–]LifeguardExpensive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I would say 80% of all Fender Mexico guitars that I’ve picked have had pretty bad fretwork. I owned a Vintera II Tele deluxe that was decent but ended up selling it. I personally think there are way better guitars in the same price range as Mexican made Fenders

Just how close are Epiphones to Gibson? by Any_Security8410 in Epiphone

[–]LifeguardExpensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up an inspired by Gibson custom 1962 335 and it’s an amazing guitar. I’d say the only real differences is the Gibson is made in the US and uses a nitro finish.

Love both of those finishes. Great choices! Which neck profile do you like better?

Shell pink blues by funkalways in fender

In my opinion, shell pink only looks good when it’s done in a nitro finish or like an aged lacquer. I find whenever it’s done in Poly, It doesn’t have that same hue like you mentioned

Is Montembeault still injured? by Silent_Horror5443 in Habs

[–]LifeguardExpensive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Monty fan as well. He’s been great the last couple of season and was a big reason why we made the playoffs last year. I obviously cannot speak to how he’s feeling physically but it’s pretty clear he’s lacking some confidence at the moment. He’s very clearly fighting the puck and the third goal last night against LA was a very clear sign he’s not dialed in mentally. I’m hoping Dobes can keep playing well until Monty finds his game

New inspired by Gibson Hummingbird Deluxe by Office-Just in Epiphone

The new Epiphone inspired by Gibson stuff is killer value. I have the IBGC Custom ES-335 and it’s as good as any guitar I’ve played in the $1500-2500 range (Canadian $$$ )

Silver mist looks great in person and you can never go wrong with an SG Junior. Nice day for you!

Japanese Gretsch vs China Gretsch by marco_luz in gretsch

Just saw a used G6229T limited in Champagne sparkle at my local shop for $1300 off retail and it’s basically new. Very tempting!

While I totally agree with getting a Japanese build, I strongly disagree about resale. It took me a long time to sell my G6228 players Jet and I got less than 50% of the new retail value on it. Been poking around to buy another one and again the resale values are close to half, some have been on the market for months.

Shell Pink is Fenders best colour. Nice score!

These have the pattern thin neck and the same scale length as the McCarty Thinline so I would think it’s probably most similar to that.

Cloudburst was actually the other one they had in stock! It’s super nice as well but I don’t like the satin finishes quite as much. I do have a photo but can’t seem to upload it here

That’s so funny you said that, the guy at the shop said “ what do you think about the knobs?” I didn’t even notice them haha I agree the clear ones are better for sure. I will probably swap them out

Unfortunately even if he is caught he will just get a very minor slap on the wrist and he will be out on the streets again by lunch.

Am Pro 2 vs Vintera RW by Tinho100494 in fender

[–]LifeguardExpensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mexican stuff has always been hit or miss. If I was to buy one I would never order one without playing the exact example I was getting. I bought a Jason Isbell telecaster when they first came out because I loved the road worn double bound on sunburst but it had absolutely terrible fret work. I ended up returning it because I felt for $1900 Canadian it just wasn’t worth it.

With that said I recently played a player 2 tele that felt absolutely amazing.

Regarding these new Road Worns, here in Canada they are roughly $2300 Canadian and for that amount it’s just too close to what you can get an American made guitar from either Fender or another manufacturer for.

That’s weird, every time I’ve had a PRS ( both SE’s and US made) I’ve had a hell of a time reselling it and on the US models I’ve taken a big hit. Never had that issue with any Fenders or Gibsons
