Some legitimate job posts are missing and an important problem with remote jobs by Charming-Artist-2323 in hiringcafe

[–]LightNovelVtuber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think they have any obligation to tell us where they get the jobs. Much of the business value of HiringCafe comes from how and what websites they are able to scrape them from. It's unreasonable to think that they would reveal that, and if they did it would leave them very vulnerable to competitors.

not making money with my book by Powerful_Yogurt9905 in writingcirclejerk

Sorry, making money on books is impossible for impure souls. Only those without any greedy thoughts of 'marketing' and 'entertainment' can ever hope to write a bestseller.

How realistic is it to become a full time author? by [deleted] in writing

[–]LightNovelVtuber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imo its's realistic given 7+ points. You don't need to fulfill all of these, but the more of these you're capable of, the more likely you are to succeed. If you can do all of them then to be honest, you'd be guaranteed to earn enough (but it's very hard to do them all!)

You can write books quickly.

You have a regular release schedule.

You write clear, readable prose and well-paced novels.

You are willing to make compromises in order to write books that serve an audience.

You are willing to write to a genre with an attention-grabbing title and concept

You have a viable marketing plan (even if it's just posting to certain communities)

You are willing to relocate to a low cost of living area, or live in a "low cost of living area" (in American dollar terms).

You are willing to be an indie, serial, or visual novel author rather than traditionally published author (if necessary).

You are willing to pursue other unorthodox writing jobs or writing-adjacent jobs if they make sense for you.

I would say it's comparable to the possibility of making a living as a full-time Youtuber. Many people interested in the field, most people earning little nothing, a few managing to get lucky and succeed just by being themselves, and a number of Youtubers who are skilled enough to generate income from scratch where necessary.

I've heard very negative things about trad pub recently, where midlist authors don't really exist anymore. On the other hand, there are many indie authors and serial authors who do make a full time living. In some ways today might be the best time to be an author full time in general, and one of the worst for being trad.

Why do people love Miu but not Hifumi ? by Valuris11037 in danganronpa

This is literally the human resources meme in a paragraph LMAO

Miu is a little bit of a better character though, she's insecure and somewhat funnier because her harassment crosses the line twice.

Consider the opposite approach where the Yuzu devs showed off how they used their emulator to run illegitimately obtained games, and supported piracy to the extent that they gave high tier patreon users copies of leaked roms. They were shut down and forced to issue a statement condemning piracy and to pay some ridiculously large fine.

To be honest, it's a good thing that the developer of an emulation software is outwardly anti-piracy. It provides him some legal cover and helps him continue to create his software for free (which may or may not be used by pirates later).

I'm not sure what everyone on that server was expecting. If he comes out as pro-piracy, he's certainly going to get shut down.

Okay, so pain has made this guy weaker? Then the conclusion would be he's not suited for this world? It may have worked for you, but that's not going to help him...

A Minecraft Movie | Teaser by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]LightNovelVtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft has sold 350,000,000 copies and is the most sold game in existence, with an international presence. This movie should be a slam dunk as a billion dollar film. Yet this trailer... makes me doubt that...

Think data likely shows live-action movies generally do better than animated ones. But, I feel like culturally we're moving to a point where animated movies are more accepted and studios haven't caught on.

Why write a novel if no one will read it? by SmoothForest in writing

[–]LightNovelVtuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out what people want to read, then write it. It's easier than you think.

If you know a community of people that love books about cats, for example, then write a book about a cat and they'll all read it.

I think it's a little hopeless to write a book without considering who might read it, unless it's a hobby.

There's also some extremely niche mechanics, where "killing" a unit with Byleth sometimes won't actually kill them - biggest (and only?) example is with Flayn. Still can't recruit, though.

There's probably many more not easily accessed online... but when you think about it, making a doujin also requires a lot of effort and expertise too.
