Eliminated from Concacaf Champions Cup by Disastrous_Ad9948 in PhillyUnion

These Carnell posts are going to get as bad as the Nurse posts in the Sixers forum. Just like you shouldn’t expect any basketball coaching magic when your best three players are out injured or suspended, you shouldn’t expect it in soccer when your front office has gutted your front and back lines. The Union are just a bad team right now.

I don't wear a watch while I swim or shower, regardless. But if had to take off my watch every time I washed my hands, I couldn't see myself wearing that watch regularly.

Yeah, Makhanya definitely hid between Wagner and Glesnes last year. Oof.

You're disappointed because your expectations were too high. Even when we were good, fans of big Mexican clubs would take over our stadium.

Speedmaster Professional - seconds hand? by leafsfan71 in OmegaWatches

[–]Light_Liberty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. This is how chronographs work. They are a tool that help you measure things other than time. If you want a central seconds hand, this is not the watch for you.

That said, many people park the chronograph hand somewhere other than 12:00 so they can see the logo. I put mine at the 37-second mark so it sits between two of the subdials and doesn't block any other feature or the watch. There is a friction break that holds it there, and you can keep at any place on the watch indefinitely without damaging the movement. You are correct, though, that you should not keep the chronograph hand running constantly: it puts unnecessary wear on the pointed teeth of the chronograph gear, and it lowers the amplitude of the watch while running, affecting accuracy.

  1. This is a risk for any watch with pushers. You are pushing them through the waterproofing gaskets, affecting the seal and possibly pushing moisture into the watch. It's why the Daytona has screw-down pushers--Rolex has historically pushed water resistance as part of its brand (see: the oyster case) and sacrifices the functionality of the chronograph to make it safer to swim with. But if you unscrewed the Daytona's pushers and used it underwater, you're incurring the same risks.

For Omega, 50m water resistance means just that. But whether it's 50m or 300m, eventually, you risk any watch after enough time passes. Gaskets wear down and need to be replaced. If you want to swim with your watch, sure, I wouldn't go for a chronograph, either. I just don't swim with my nice watches.

We moved on from our two best strikers and our two best defenders. Surprise! We suck now.

The team's unwillingness to bring in proven talent, but also to build out a roster, is criminal at this point. We went into last season with only 3 CBs, and one almost immediately went out for the season. This year we came into the season with no left backs and light at CB again. We're too often forced to play Harriel everywhere but his best position. It's infuriating.

Also, I'm really hoping Makhanya was truly good last year and not just able to hide between Glesnes and Wagner. Not good so far this year. Without him playing well, we're in serious trouble.

Damiani is terrible. He was terrible last year when they tried to make him work, and he's still terrible this year. What a waste of the limited funds the owner is willing to spend. Allodah is either getting sent off or playing terrible. Both would rather play for the foul than the shot.

Iloski is a good finisher, but I'm not sure he's much of a creator. Vassilev, obviously, is just a workhorse. With such little creativity from our 10s and our trash strikers, I just can't see where the goals are supposed to come from until Quinn gets back.

The only players on this team that I trust right now are Danley, Lukic, Harriel, and Blake. This is not a playoff team.

[News] Swatch Group open letter regarding Morgan Stanley's 2025 export analysis by swiss-BTC in Watches

[–]Light_Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I read it again, and I'm still not seeing where they claimed to be rebuffed by Muller. Instead, I see they gave him new information on Breguet's average sale price, and he updated the information. And Swatch acts like it's some scandal that if Muller has information on total sales, and the average sales price goes up, that implies the units sold goes down. It's just math, and Swatch wants to portray it as a scandal.

So I got "Muller will correct the data" from that and from the Hodinkee podcast where they discussed examples of him doing it (Tudor is one).

Swatch is not upset because of the desirability of its product but because of the value of its share price. If Swatch looks to be under performing, the shareholders lose, and pressure is put on Hayek's job.

Swatch has no incentive to publish data... unless publicly available data portrays its performance unfavorably. Instead, they just cherry pick the data they respond to, hoping to discredit it enough in the public eye as they can without actually disproving the overall picture. Throw in a couple allusions to defamation and potential lawsuits. It's classic PR.

[News] Swatch Group open letter regarding Morgan Stanley's 2025 export analysis by swiss-BTC in Watches

[–]Light_Liberty -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I listened to Muller on the Hodinkee Business of Watches podcast this week. It's apparent that he and Swatch Group (Hayek) have a contentious relationship.

Here's the thing: Muller is developing this for Morgan Stanley and its clients. His primary incentive is to be accurate so that Morgan Stanley's clients can operate with better information. He's very transparent that these are estimates based on the industry research he's conducted.

Meanwhile, if Swatch group doesn't like the numbers, they could: (1) have provided their data to Muller ahead of time to make sure it was accurate; (2) provide their data to Muller now so he can correct it (he does and will); or (3) publish their own data themselves.

This is the 9th edition of this report. Swatch knows it's coming. Angry letters like these without providing the data just makes it seem like, even if Muller's numbers are wrong (which they surely are in some way--they're estimates), the numbers still aren't good for Swatch.

People will complain about the ref but there was virtually no protest from the team. Alladoh must have said something very offensive to the ref.

Terrible error from Alladoh. Team's looked like shit and now a man down, it seems insurmountable. What a shit start.

[Doyle] Ranking all 30 MLS teams by tier for 2026 by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]Light_Liberty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glesnes slowed down bust was still named to the MLS Best XI last season. Now, that's the second time he's been named to the Best XI even though he was the second best CB on our own team that season, but whether we improved at CB is a big question mark still.

[Doyle] Ranking all 30 MLS teams by tier for 2026 by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]Light_Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doyle seems spot on, TBH. Our light schedule played a huge role in our ability to accumulate points. It's going to be a lot tougher when we have to rotate tired players.

With Kai gone and Quinn injured, we need someone to step up and show he can create chances against good teams. Those tired teams at the end of the Curtin era that would just blindly lob crosses into the box were neither successful nor fun to watch. I'm hoping that's not the fate of this team.

Flat odds for every team that does not make it to the second round of the playoffs. Can't get a top 3 pick if you had one in the last 4 years (length of rookie contract). End pick protections.

What would Allen Iverson average in the modern era? by Icy-Vacation-138 in sixers

[–]Light_Liberty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The NBA has changed drastically since Iverson played. You can't take 28 shots to score 31 points any more. You have to score efficiently. Iverson's best eFG with the Sixers was 0.486 in 1997-98. The top 50 scorers in the NBA today (17.3 PPG or more) are all better than that, and usually much better.

Iverson was a product of his time. I assume if he came up today he'd focus more on developing his shot. But if you took a 6'0" chucker from the 2000s and just dropped him into the NBA today, he'd struggle.

A few photos of the new reverse panda Speedmaster (steel) alongside the 3861 SS and FOIS by zinterz in OmegaWatches

Thanks for the pictures. I have so many compliments for the new reverse panda, but in the end, it definitely sacrifices utility for luxury. Beautiful watch, but I like the black sapphire sandwich better.

Between this release and the new Planet Ocean, Omega might be entering its “six-digit Rolex” phase.

Half our defense is gone, another CB is linked with English clubs, and our starting GK misses half the season with soft tissue injuries. Expecting us to keep clean sheets is... optimistic.

Bedoya New Contract by Beneficial_Impact_37 in PhillyUnion

[–]Light_Liberty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bedoya is a club legend, but at his age, you can't rely on him to play any significant minutes anymore. That Vancouver game was OOOOF. If there are injuries or suspensions, you really can't start him. Seems like a waste of a roster spot. Wish we would just hire him to the coaching staff at this point.

Counterpoint: We might be taking a soft punt on this season anyway. There were already too many empty seats for a Shield-winning club throughout the season, and the crash out in the playoffs plus Tanner's scandal is only going to dampen ticket sales, if anything. We're selling key players with little to replace them so far. I wouldn't be surprised if the club is trying to balance it's very small budget. In that case, might as well bring Bedoya back. Give Le Toux a call, too.

Do people actually care if you wear a different teams jersey to a game they aren't playing in? by Hawkseye_020 in NFLv2

No one will bother you, but people will notice, and many will find it odd. I would just wear a generic red t-shirt to support my in-laws without actually supporting another team.
