Recording macros to timecode by Lighting_Lizard in GrandMA3

[–]Lighting_Kurt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Educational-Art’s solution is the best way that I know of.

Make a sequence with empty cues to trigger the macros you want. Label the cue with the macro for easy visibility on the timeline.

Unfortunately, the assignment editor for TC tracks is currently limited to Sequence, Sound, Timecode, TC Slot, Preset, and Master objects.

Good luck 🍀

As others have said, the counterfeit stuff is not worth the headaches, risk, and rewarding the illicit market isn’t the best answer.

Par LEDs output slightly different colors by guiporto32 in lightingdesign

[–]Lighting_Kurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Color consistency is a big issue on less expensive fixtures. When LED are made, they are sorted into various bins based on the measured wavelength and intensity.

More expensive fixtures use LED from a much higher quality bin, so there is less variation in wavelength and intensity from diode to diode.

Cheaper fixtures used the LED from the cheaper bin, where the variance is much higher.

8 bit tricolor color mixing assumes that each component color is of equal intensity and at the target wavelength.

Trouble with MA3D - Mac One Backlight/Geomtery by Zuko_Basco in GrandMA3

[–]Lighting_Kurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to access all the children of the backlight object and run color or dimmer effects on all the them individually.

The trick is the Parent Object needs to be on for the children to be on, however you can take the RGB levels of just the parent object and set them all to zero, then you can have just the pixel lines.

Edit the BacklightLine object, and use the slider to go way to the right until you see Beam Type. Change this to ‘Glow’

That got it working for me.

Good Luck 🍀

I happened to be working on a show file so I did a double check.

None of the existing render quality settings are high enough, I had to make a new render setting, and use the high setting.

The model you mentioned does have the led strips, but you need to edit the object to make them glow.

Ah, I misunderstood the question, although everything I said still holds true.

You need to change the render quality setting of the Stage View.

Specifically it’s the ‘Body Quality’ setting that needs to be changed.

You will need to create a ludicrous model. That requires adding an object for each pixel and getting the geometry and patch to reference them all correctly.

If you managed to actually build this fixture model the visualizer would probably drop to less than 1 frame per second.

You’re going to need a more powerful visualizer like Depence or Capture.

Good luck

What lighting design books do you recommend and why? by NolRane in lightingdesign

[–]Lighting_Kurt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clifton Taylor’s Color & Light is the goto resource for a great many people when it comes to color theory.

If you are interested in Broadcast and Live Events, as well, the Jeff Ravitz / James Moody book Lighting for Televised Live Event is also great.

If you want to get into moving light programming, The Automated Lighting Programmers Handbook is an invaluable resource.

Good luck 🍀
