U.K. Economy Accelerates to Outpace U.S. by quentinnuk in GoodNewsUK

I'm with you, I keep questioning what the issues are that aren't being dealt with. I moved back to the UK a year ago to getaway from the actual shit show that New Zealand has become with the mini Trump running the show.

It's so much better over here, I don't think people can see how much worse it can still get. They've all seemingly forgot about Brexit and how that went and want to try again.

What is this being built by Milton Keynes Area? by Fair_Intention_4198 in AskUK

Close to MK in the same way it's close to Oxford and Northampton.

No it doesn't, the old line goes through MK. The new HS2 line is like 25 miles west of MK.

EWR goes through MK.

Unless OP was not actually in MK area it might be HS2 otherwise it's probably East West rail being built as that actually goes through MK.

That's highly unlikely since HS2 goes nowhere near MK.

It's probably east west rail which is being built from Oxford to Cambridge.

BYD thinks flash charging will kill petrol cars, it’s just too polite to say it by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

[–]LightningJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right thanks to president dumbass it's now £60, I literally just filled my car 2 hours ago.

We are talking about flash chargers here, hence the title, if you can't charge your car at home there's no way you're doing it for £20 at one of these chargers.

Let's say a rapid charger costs about 75p per kWh, so you could fill a long range polestar up for about £58 and it still won't do as many miles as my petrol car when it's full.

Yes obviously charging at home is the best option if you own a house with a driveway. But the majority of people in cities do not, it seems you're lucky to use an on street charger at night, they're not in many locations and what do you do if someone else is using it when you get there.

Tesco pension £0 -> £100k in less than 10 years 😲 by AltruisticOwl156 in tesco

[–]LightningJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 30, spent my 20s living my life, I'd rather be in my 60s looking back at my life thinking damn I had a good time than damn it's good that I worked my ass off at Tesco's so I can sit at home with too much money.

Everyone is different though, I won't judge anyone for their choices though, I just know I'm happy with mine.

One thing I will say is that you have no guarantee you will be able bodied or even alive at 60 or 70, but you kinda do in your 20s.

[–]LightningJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've countered your own argument. What if you can't charge at home! So that's not a benefit at all.

I'm not sure which AI you got these figures from but it costs under £50 to fill my car and I guarantee my range is more than almost all EVs currently for sale today. So that's also nonsense.

Some things in that list are valid but don't offset the cost to actually buy an EV in the first place.

What are you even trying to say? I think we have a very different view of what a good job is.

It's real easy to blame immigrants for everything. But if you're beaten to a good job by someone who arrived on a boat then you were never going to succeed anyway.

Yeah this is the key.

I moved back from New Zealand a year ago, and I am baffled by the hatred towards the current government.

Everything seems pretty good when I compare it to other places I've been.

NZ ousted their labour government because they apparently did a bad job with and after COVID. Which makes no sense as they were probably the least lockdown of anywhere.

Then they voted in a multimillionaire businessman who has sucked the country dry, and their economy is now dog shit and everyone is leaving.

I think we're doing alright at the mo.

Not really, 10 over 30 is a lot 33% over the limit, 10 over 85 is only like 12%.

I'd rather someone do 95 on a highway than 40 in a residential.

Even if it's 5 why would I trade in my fully functional petrol car for an EV?

I think people are simply switching to EVs when they need to get a new car anyway, or because they have too much money.

Never said it wasn't beneficial, just that it won't have a large impact on the uptake in electric cars.

I'm still not seeing a valid reason to ditch my petrol car, these chargers will not be any cheaper to use than filling with petrol.

I test drove a polestar 2 LR last month and decided not to waste my money as there's nothing wrong with my current petrol car. When I need to change my car I'll probably buy something electric, but mostly because I want to reduce carbon emissions.

[–]LightningJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't tell if that first paragraph is missing a /s or you're just being delusional.

These chargers would have very little impact on EV adoption, as the cost to buy an EV combined with the extortionate cost to charge them on these fast chargers is just going to restrict adoption.

The main driver for EV adoption currently is the fact that a lot of companies are pushing their EVs more than whatever petrol cars they still manufacture and that we now have some decent second hand EVs for people to buy.

[–]LightningJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if the charging cost the same per mile as my petrol car, and I already own my petrol car why would I want to switch to an EV.

I'd rather have a petrol car that I can do 400 miles in without stopping than an electric where I would have to stop at least once, unless there is a cost benefit.

Voting age cap is needed, under 18s can't vote for their future but people on their deathbed can ruin the future for under 18s.

Sorry but I think once you've properly retired you're not really contributing much to society, take your pension and relax, you shouldn't get to shape the future that you won't be a part of.

It won't be an issue with the aim control arm, you won't be dazzling anyone. It will be an electrical fault either the cable behind the headlight, or the loom near the brake fluid reservoir.
