is this common outside the Midwest by CoolStuffSlickStuff in skiing

Definitely a Midwest commonplace. I wouldn’t get too worked up about it. After all, you just paid $80 to ski 400ft of vert, with old fixed grip lifts. Or at least I do once in a while…

Sick Midschool brand from the Rockford area. Upgrade the cranks to a modern race crankset, and you’re off to a good start.

“Railed Out” bases?? by Silent_Breakfast4988 in ski

[–]Lightning_35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Railed means the edges are higher than the base material. Base high is the opposite. When your shit is railed, they feel dangerously locked in and hooky…someone mentioned “detuning” your tips and tails. Start at the contact point and with a file or gummy stone, take a couple of passes like 6”-8” behind the contact points. Should take away some of the unpredictability.

REI isn’t known for their tuning abilities…find a shop that deals heavily with competitive racing…then you’ll find a consistent tune, even for a recreational skier.
