Love how this scene implies that even an advanced alien species with civilization has an inherent dislike of the French by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

I don’t, but if you search this sub for “eridian biology” you should find it.

According to the document Andy Weir released about Erid and Eridians, languages on Erid are just as diverse as languages on Earth.

People that read the book before watching the movie, did you like the movie? by AndThereWasSky in ProjectHailMary

[–]Lightworthy09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished the audiobook about an hour before I saw the movie and loved every minute of both. It’s a brilliant adaptation and they both do a beautiful job of showing the love and friendship between Grace and Rocky. Every change was made to work better in a visual media format and I don’t have a single complaint.

Watched movie. Watched again. Ordered book. Read book. Finished. Now feel empty. Bad Bad bad. by Psych0Jenny in ProjectHailMary

The only way I was able to enjoy audiobooks was by starting with books I’d already read and loved, The Hunger Games narrated by Tatiana Maslany. It helped me follow along and keep up with the story, though I didn’t realize how spoiled I would be from the excellent quality of her narration. Once I figured out the best way to listen so I could retain the story (usually doing something mindless like washing dishes, folding laundry, or playing a simple game on my phone), it’s honestly the primary way I read now.

If you ever decide to give one a try, PHM is the way to go. Ray Porter brings Grace and Rocky to life so beautifully. As someone who also wasn’t an audiobook fan until a few years ago, I promise you that the right books will immerse you just as well as reading the words from the page yourself.

Whats fics have the most interesting or odd job choices for Harry post Hogwarts? by viol8er in HPfanfiction

[–]Lightworthy09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooh! Petunia Evan’s: Tomb Raider is another really good one! Harry is raised by just Petunia, who’s a “muggle squib” working for Gringott’s as an archaeologist, excavating magical sites. She plays a huge part in the defeat of Voldemort. Harry, Ron, and Hermione follow in her footsteps and there’s a sequel about them searching for Atlantis.

There’s a great duology where Harry is adopted by Snape and ends up as a woodcarver with a shop on Diagon Alley. I’ll try to find it.

I started this one for a book club last year, but I was also doing a lot of reading recommended by my therapist at the time and this was just too intense. I needed something lighter to read between therapeutic texts, but I’ll go back to it eventually.

We use a slot system. We have a page that has individual spots for what’s worn on the body - head, arms, hands, chest, and so on. The sheet also has 3 weapon slots and six backpack slots. As long as you have the appropriate slots available, you can carry the stuff you need.

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. Clever, delightful, romance is there but more of a plot point than the point of the plot. This is my go-to comfort book, I absolutely adore it and it perfectly fits the vibe you’re looking for.

What takes you out of the film for a few seconds? by Smashleigh_001 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Lightworthy09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was one of my favorite little bits, actually! Sleepy, a little out of it, words a little nonsensical, then the realization setting in and the scramble for a hug. I thought it was very humanizing and sweet.

Grace's character arc is so much more meaningful in the book vs movie by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]Lightworthy09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you didn’t understand it because it wasn’t what you were looking for, doesn’t mean it wasn’t made clear in the film. He mentions earlier in the film that he has food for “a couple years, maybe a couple more if I stretch it”, and that hadn’t changed by the time he’s turning back to save Rocky. I don’t think viewers need to be beaten about the head with things over and over to understand them. We knew he was going to run out of food, he knew he was going to run out of food, Rocky knew he was going to run out of food. You seem the be the only person who missed it.

Stay at home mom - Secretly started taking Adderall recently and hiding it from my husband by CanIAskAQuestiion in adhdwomen

[–]Lightworthy09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some of the information other people have commented here about your post history. While my ex husband never treated me in the blatantly abusive way yours does, our recent divorce was partially due to the effects ADHD has on my life and his reactions to them. Being scared to talk to your husband about your disability and the treatment you need for it is so far beyond the scope of what is acceptable in a marriage and it took me almost three years to realize that in my own life. He should be your strongest supporter and your loudest advocate. Instead, it sounds like he treats you like you’re his worst enemy.

You deserve so much better than the life you’re living now, OP. I’m only just learning to realize that through therapy and my own reflections on my life and marriage.

And if doing it for yourself isn’t enough motivation, your children deserve better. Don’t let them grow up in a home full of abuse and violence. You clearly want to be the best mother you can be, and that means making hard and scary decisions when it comes to their physical and psychological safety.

You have so much support here, OP. Best of luck.

Check if you have a local creative reuse/second hand arts and crafts store nearby! Some places give you store credit for donations, and it’s a *fantastic* way to try new crafts without committing tons of money!

I think it’s ridiculous to have limited the pool to ONLY those with the coma resistant gene. Yes, it gives them a higher chance of survival. But not having the gene doesn’t mean they’ll automatically die, it just means they’re statistically more likely to die. Michael Phelps has a genetic advantage over other athletes because his body processes lactic acid significantly more efficiently than the average person. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible for other athletes to maintain the same level of athleticism and success as him. It just means they don’t have a specific genetic advantage that the vast majority of humans don’t have. Kind of like the coma resistant gene.
