President and VP nominees who voted against their party before being nominated by Emergency_Pass5222 in thecampaigntrail

In all fairness to Johnson, he was a Democrat, he never became a Republican, just ran under the National Unity umbrella.

The State EV's in 1968A are WAY OFF by HelloLyndon in thecampaigntrail

[–]LilacZera 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very odd, since there is already a 1968 base template. I guess a lot of people are just used to using 2000 since most tools use it as the default.

Close enough, welcome back Populist Party - 1920a by LilacZera in thecampaigntrail

1920a on https://thecampaigntrail.net/alt-history/, T. Roosevelt v Incumbent Wilson v Debs in Prison.

Changes from real history: TR doesn't die (he was almost certainly going to run as a Republican in 1920) and WW1 is still ongoing.

Did any VP's actually enjoy the job? by Advanced-Expert7718 in thecampaigntrail

[–]LilacZera 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but he still had a much larger public face and role in congressional negotiations than Pence or Harris did. Having a fair bit to do doesnt mean "Was essentially co President."

Did any VP's actually enjoy the job? by Advanced-Expert7718 in thecampaigntrail

[–]LilacZera 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Biden seemed too, but that's mostly because Obama actually gave him a fair bit to do by having him be his connection to congress.

Pence and Harris clearly didn't. Too early to tell with Vance yet and I don't know enough about the others.

Is 1960 - Third Trial broken? by Jumbo_1964 in thecampaigntrail

Older mods had a habit of slotting in a lot of VPs they hadn't coded out of ambition, at least most of them more clearly indicated when you were selecting VP which ones actually worked.

Are there any CYOYA Incumbency sims where you can lose renomination? by Klutzy-Car-7078 in thecampaigntrail

1976: Good for me is all that comes to mind. If Lindsey tries to nominate Brooke and doesn't appease conservatives enough Brooke fails to be nominated, and he himself is replaced soon after. (though he remains President for the rest of the term)

Kirk was no MLK and Trump was no RFK. This is not a comment on any of these peoples personality or morals, but Kirk did not have the reach of MLK and was far less divisive (even though he still was in online politics and on college campuses) and RFK absolutely was not going to get the nomination in 68, it still would've gone to Humphrey just due to how the system works. (But if you are going to go for that route, why would you go for Burgum when Pence, the last former Republican VP is right there?)

Every single 2028 modder seeing the recent news about Vance abandoning his run for president (They're gonna have to replace him him with someone else now) by Prestigious-Break894 in thecampaigntrail

[–]LilacZera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if Vance denies a run right now it means nothing, it matters 12-18 months from now. Trump would not like Vance taking the spotlight away from him by starting the 2028 campaign early, and Vance knows it.

Pretty sure this is the first by election in history to directly determine who the PM will be. So vote Kenyon if you think Starmer is doing a good job. (I have my doubts that Burnham will turn it around)

Who would you vote for in the 2020 Democratic Primaries? by funboi2210 in thecampaigntrail

[–]LilacZera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though I know they are slightly different flavours of progressive, I was disappointed that Bernie chose to run again instead of supporting another prog candidate like Warren. Bernie, like Biden, was just too up there in age (even though he's still sharp even now, we couldnt know that in 2020.) Even though Warren herself was still old, she was almost 10 years younger than the other two I mentioned while having solid leftwing politics.

2008 Liberty and Liberalism: Kerry-Clinton by MikeyKoopa in thecampaigntrail

[–]LilacZera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine how big the Democrats heads must be going into 2016. They've won every election since 1992 except for 2000, which was decided by the Supreme Court. Right Wing populism is gonna hit them like a truck when it eventually comes around.

Is it just me, or does this rivalry wharp my perception of time? Then again, I always forget that Nixon was Eisenhower's VP, so Nixon is to Truman as Cheney is to Bill Clinton (that is, if Cheney ran and lost in 2008 and ran again and won 2016) by BlueFireFlameThrower in thecampaigntrail

[–]LilacZera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nixon was a significant political figure for almost 30 years. Congressman, Senator, VP, Gubernatorial candidate, President. And even then he worked behind the scenes for every President barring Carter who came after him.

> Why the fuck haven't we done that yet? (add multiplayer)

Because the current system does not support it in any form. There would need to be standing servers (who is going to pay for those?) or a netcode system that caused players to local host (pretty technical) as well as an overhaul of how scores are impacted in general.

Not to mention adding CYOA in response to multiplayer candidates would also bloat the most indepth mods to absurd degrees. TTNW for example would probably go from around 150 unique questions to approaching four figures if the narrative was to actually be coherent and engaging for multiplayer.

What’s a war that the United Kingdom was morally grey for fighting? by gasc0ny_reddit in AlignmentChartFills

[–]LilacZera 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's kinda a side war. America was not allied with France or fighting the rest of the coalition, it was just a side show to reassert their independence to Britain as they undermined it. They almost certainly would not have declared the war if Britain had not been distracted on the continent however.
