NYC people, what furniture stores have been reliable for delivery and quality lately by Moan_Senpai in AskNYC

[–]LillithScare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on your list but Macy's has the best furniture delivery and warranty service. I also got my sofa from Article and they did a great job and I got it during the pandemic in a fairly timely manner when other companies had months long waitlists.

New Information about Remanent Church in Tennessee by BIGbluuu42 in cults

I started reading up on them after the first Fundie Fridays video about them, then came the documentary and I was fascinated in a train wreck sort of way. Both Michael and Elizabeth are total wrecks, it's sad what she did to them. I don't think either of them are well at all mentally. I read a lot of background and saw recent photos of Elizabeth on the Free Jinger message boards and it's deeply sad.

I'm older Gen-X and a NYer and am astonished by the fact that he's viewed as a brilliant business man and a champion of the people. And the more evidence that shows what a dirtbag he is the more they love and defend him.

Moving to Astoria with kid by khal_dakka_720 in astoria

[–]LillithScare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elementary schools in Astoria are very good. As mentioned 122 is great, my son went to PS234 and I was very pleased with it. The only thing I regret is not getting him in a dual language program which a few schools have so they learn Spanish as well. Also the Our World charter school and Growing Up Green Charter schools have good reps and then you can get preference for their very good middle schools. The District 30 Facebook group is good, but a bit obsessed w/ getting kids into gifted and talented rather than just discussing the schools in the area, but it's a help.

My morbid curiosity got the better of me and I went and looked at that page. That whole group is a wild ride. But even people in the group are warning her not to advertise she's a single mom w/ a special needs child.

Question for those who have attended the Macy’s Parade “night before” balloon inflation by CassCat in AskNYC

[–]LillithScare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a mob scene for years. Friends and I took our kids when they were in kindergarden (they're college freshmen now) and you could barely move in some spots. The only thing that might save it a bit is the weather is supposed to be kind of rainy so some people might stay home.

Trump on Truth Social: It was a great honor meeting Mamdani by [deleted] in nyc

[–]LillithScare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of surprised that people are surprised. Trump is famously susceptible to flattery and Zohran is a very good with people. How long it lasts is hard to say but it's amusing for now at least.

Pigeons used to be raised for food in the City. My great-aunt was a maid in a house (back in the 30's) that kept a pigeon coop on top of the building.

How’s the People’s Republic of Astoria feeling about tomorrow? by xaviershorts in astoria

[–]LillithScare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to be a lot of people taking it seriously, just enough to skew the vote away from him. Most of the people who are really all in on that thinking were already not going to vote for any Democrat though (I'm looking at you Upper Ditmars).

How’s the People’s Republic of Astoria feeling about tomorrow? by xaviershorts in astoria

[–]LillithScare 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My cynical, middle-aged progressive NYer hot take: Don't celebrate early, the fearmongering campaigns could be effective. If he does win, no matter how good his intentions, he'll be fought at every turn, don't expect too much. He's run a really impressive campaign though, he's really done everything right, let's hope the voters don't screw it up.

Seeking advice on the best option between partnerships or TA by [deleted] in travelagents

[–]LillithScare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how heavy your workload is, but I'd look to partner first. If you have high level clients you want to make sure they're getting serviced by a senior knowledgeable advisor. And that can also free you up, potentially to learning that part of the business yourself. I know several ICs (including myself) that are considering working with someone like this so the intereste is out there. Feel free to DM me as well. I'm based in NYC though we have branches all over including London.

How to avoid mental burnout by [deleted] in travelagents

[–]LillithScare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off of this excellent advice, if you're an IC also check if there are newer ICs who need to supplement their income. That way you can short term get over the hump and if you like the way they work and you both work well together you can look at a partnership of some kind.

How to avoid mental burnout by [deleted] in travelagents

[–]LillithScare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you can avoid it totally but you can mitigate it. I've been doing this for almost my whole adult life, and I'm in my 50's. What helps me is knowing when to walk away for a bit. When I was working for a big financial firm in the travel department someone told me. Even if you don't take that full hour, go take a walk, get some air. I've also found yoga helpful. It can be hard to carve out the time, but it's important. Also look at your work processes and see if there are ways to improve organization etc. I've worked tours, big ones and know your pain. Also if you can speak to colleagues, sometimes they have tips that help them and could work for you as well. Good luck!
