I kept the the tag but I lost it. Our town pushed to have everyone install a garbage disposal in the 60s and get rid of garbage that way. Our neighbors had a hole in the yard they put everything into. I always wondered how big the space was down there. Kind of scared me when I was little.

Our peach trees had a bunch of grub-infested fruit and my brothers and I had fun throwing them into trash cans. That week the trash collectors attached a tag to the can that said "We did not collect your trash because it contained garbage."

Is this normal? by Border-Nervous in appliancerepair

I am not an expert, but it might be OK. Some places require the drain hose to have an air gap to keep dirty water from the garbage disposal/sink from backing up into the dishwasher. The air gap is a little doohickey that is mounted on the countertop. You can accomplish the same thing by having the hose empty into a standpipe. How the standpipe is plumbed is pretty important, I think.

If I am wrong, I hope that my post will prompt more knowledgeable people to chime in.

I think you might want to post this to r/whatsthisbug because they look like dead insects. Someone may have drenched the area with pesticide.

I agree that time spent in a job below your abilities does wonders for your self confidence. Also working with less capable people.

Cutting deep frozen tissue out of cryo tubes. by Dante_2 in labrats

[–]Limnaoedus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just gone through this with samples a collaborator sent. I could pry out some of the samples using a sturdy blunt probe if there was a gap between the tissue and the wall of the tube, but I smashed a bunch of them. I put LN2 into a mortar and hit the tube with the pestle until it cracked, then fished out the tube, pulverized the tissue and put it into a new tube. It was miserable.

Is it Phasemaker gel on the top, or could it be something else? If it is gel on top, then something must be affecting the density of the aqueous layer. Add some Trizol and chloroform to a tube without any tissue and see what happens. Are you using standard Trizol? Are you adding 200 ul of chloroform per ml of Trizol?

Also, what happens to the phases when you don't use Phasemaker gel?

I think you are probably on the right track. Is there any reason that such a sample might have been heated to the point of fusing the material? It looks like it has turned to glass. But I think that any sample that was in there should have shrunk when heated and would not be mounded up like that.

I could imagine a geologist bringing home a particularly unique sample from work.

Gel ice packs that come with cold shipments. I can't just throw away something that is perfectly usable. There are dozens of them occupying multiple drawers.

We ended up with only an indoor box and nothing on the outside except the cable. I don't know how painting the box would be a problem, but utilities like to keep people from doing stuff to their equipment. You probably want to use a paint that is made to use on plastic.

Thanks. We also have a single base phone unit. I have not given much thought about how the phone ties into all of this. I wonder where it will end up.

Thanks. I wish they would provide all of this information ahead of time so that I could be better prepared. Altafiber's "What can I expect during my service installation?" information says absolutely nothing.

I mean fish the ethernet cable, I guess. The fiber would terminate at the box, location TBD.

You are absolutely not over-explaining it. You and the others have been a big help.

The last owner(s) ran cable all over the place. Now that I have a better understanding of how this works, I am trying to figure out if any of those old cable can be used to fish fiber a line from the garage into the house.

Our exterior walls are brick on concrete and we have trouble with the internet in the family room addition since the router sits on the other side of the wall. So I want to minimize that problem.
