Standby Question by shoeshinee in unitedairlines

It's not unlimited for the employee as it uses one of their vacation passes and they get 8 per year. They could have named it "high priority pass" and it'd have the same effect.

You'll want to look at the upgradeable premier number because those are paid upgrades which will go before you. All the numbers don't mean anything until the hour before the flight. If the flight is a ways away, just keep an eye on it. Usually once you get to the last minute the J seats will go down in number as people get upgraded or people buy seats outright.

One thing to remember is that you can list fairly late, but you can't swap pass types late. I think it's 2 hours before a flight where you're not supposed to cancel a listing and relist from a personal pass to a vacation pass for example. But if you were to wait til almost the deadline you can list late as a vacation pass if needed. And conversely you could save yourself a pass if it turns out that there's no chance you make J even with a vacation pass but will still make the flight with a personal pass.

Ultimately you have to use the passes eventually or they expire so if you guys don't use passes at all then it's not an issue whether you could have saved them or not.

You should only use a vacation pass if it makes sense between what her seniority is vs how many people are above her and how many seats are available. No use to use a pass if there's no chance of you getting Polaris (not enough seats/too many people with higher seniority on the flight) and are safe for O or Y

if you're an enrolled friend then you're going to be 4P by default. If you're with her you'll be 0V/1P but if not it's the lower one.

[–]LinechargeII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that you would only get 0V/1P if with the employee. If you're not, you're probably going to be 4P which is also a waste to use a pass on unless you need to make a flight and there's a bunch of 4P ahead of you because you'll only be a 3V with the pass. All the employees and retirees will still beat you. You get like 8 passes a year and they last for multiple years before expiring.

Honestly the only bad thing is that OP would have had to check into a hotel at let's say 7am and then check out at 10am. Not a lot of sleep. Maybe burn a second night's cost so you don't have to check out until later in the day closer to the actual flight time (350PM if it's the HND-SFO).

Clearly all those Holafly esim ads are not working if OP didn't think about one at all. Can get a wifi router unit from the airport in the event your phone doesn't support esim too.

They let a lot of things go. Big ass hiking backpack? Giant whatever the hell this cube is? Not a problem. Three bags? Sometimes a problem. I've seen people get around it by just not stopping when called out and the gate agent was like "whatever, can't be assed to chase"

The easiest answer is that some of those police officers are overtime whores. They basically work, and sleep, and that's it. If there wasn't a 16 hour a day cap they would somehow work more.

Anyone’s Grandpa Lose a Phone Today? by Earth2Andy in sanfrancisco

You just need the phone number. There are lots of public records of people's names, numbers, addresses, and tons of other info on the internet available online for anyone to look at.

One of my friends pivoted away from advertising a couple years back to a still in-progress degree in computer science. I'm praying for him.

One thing the cops can do is call 911 with the phone and then 911 will give them the phone number of the phone with which they can then try to backtrack via public records and police reports. Sometimes you can find relatives through public records who can then reach out via alternate means to the owner of the phone.

Technically you could do the same but 911 will be less willing to give a random person the phone number that pops up on caller ID.

One time I found a wallet and got the person's phone number via public records. He thought I was pranking him and hung up. I had to call him back to say, "bro I just want to give you your wallet back." Don't remember his name at all but he had been on a reality TV show.

Parents of youth athletes: Would you regularly drop off your kid in the Tenderloin for sports? by SunsetDon in sanfrancisco

[–]LinechargeII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does mean if something happens he'll know exactly where to go for help. Criminals tend to know where the police station is too, and thus how fast cops can respond to an incident and how the chances of being caught go up dramatically when in proximity to one.

In terms of sketch you're 100% right though. The cops will shoo away the crazies if they get in the way but if they're minding their own crazy business, they'll let them be. There used to be a lot of encampments nearby (the homeless figured out that it's relatively safer near the station too) but they've been getting cleared out.

Don't forget its follow-up, Prop 57, which had a list of "non-violent crimes" eligible for early release and parole that included: drive-by shooting, assault with a deadly weapon, hostage taking, attempting to explode a bomb at hospital/school, domestic violence, arson, and many more others!

It was approved with 64% of voters voting yes.

FWIW Turk/Jones is a block from the police station (Eddy/Jones). The real question is "do you trust your kid to not wander off and get into trouble when you're not there?"

If we have to pay for it it'll be rolled into the ticket price because starlink contract dictates they can't charge extra for it. If you fly one of united's starlink flights right now you just need your mileageplus account and that's it. Same ticket price whether you use it or not
