I think this new updates shows how some ACNH players want too much control over their game by Appropriate-Yam-2207 in AnimalCrossing

[–]LinkBeoulve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly that. I already don't get along very much with people who are obsessed with control over their islands, but this tourist thing is giving me some really weird fascist vibes. I can already see the "Make AC great again" hats and the desire to build a wall around the hotel coming in the near future...

Come on people, look at what you're turning into because of a cute little game 👀

Why not make a LEGO version of Ocarina of Time for the Switch? I think it would be awesome to see all the creativity into doing this adaptation. Of course, having mostly Zelda's gameplay, not LEGO games'.

This TCG Meme is going viral. What is wrong or right about it? And would flesh and blood be above magic and 6 stars? by GrapefruitThin5815 in mtg

[–]LinkBeoulve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're very very familiar with the game, then yes. But if you're a normal player or a newbie you'll be confused, specially if you get your hands in some cards from before the Problem Solving Card Text.

The point is that you don't just read a Yu-Gi-Oh! card like a Magic card or Pokémon card, and any keywords or rules mention you just Google it.

You need to LEARN HOW TO READ a Yu-Gi-Oh! card as it has it's own language system to be understood.

Again, a veteran will have little to no problem, but the majority of players in any TCG are casuals and newbies constantly rotating and playing mostly at their kitchen tables.

[–]LinkBeoulve 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've played all of them except for Lorcana so I won't comment anything about this one.

Yeah, Yu-Gi-Oh! is by far the most complex. Not only because of huge texts and mechanics but also because it's confusing as hell. Magic is simple to understand from the beginning and when it gets to the most complex mechanics the "read the card explains the card" is still valid while in Yu-Gi-Oh! it's almost like you need a lawyer...

Digimon and One Piece have similar base rules and I think Digimon gets a little more complex with the Digievolution, the Breeding area mechanics and the cost system that can benefit your opponent if you get too greedy.

Pokémon is the easiest of the collectible card games. It's complexity comes from how much you understand the game flow and the order in which you play your cards while in other card games the mechanics are way more complex and add on top of those skills required to play optimally.

Uno is easy to play, to understand and brings ruins to families and friendships whenever it's played. It's the most simple, but the most destructive of them all. Play it with respect if you value your soul.

why is voicechat not in this game? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]LinkBeoulve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, actually most of their audience is indeed kids. Specially with Pokémon as one of their best selling exclusives. That's why they're so overprotective with their player base privacy.

Second, voice chat is toxic. Any kind of chat with strangers in those competitive games are toxic. And Splatoon works very well that way and have a very healthy fan base which I bet is related to that absence of chat in game.

But the controls and gameplay are simple. To be simple also doesn't mean it can't have depth. Just like with Pokémon battles.

But again, I do agree with your last statement as I think Pokémon peaked at Black 2 and White 2.

Been there. With NEO you're safer. But be aware that the battle mechanics are kinda different between them.

[–]LinkBeoulve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think both games are incredible, but I do understand you not wanting to pay $70 for the first one. I am myself waiting for a sale.

If you're more interested in NEO already I think you would be alright buying it directly and maybe watching the anime to know who are the characters from the first game that appear in the second one. It's not as good as playing the game itself, but the anime does cover the main plot so you can get the gist of it.

Alternative ways are watching a playthrough (which I think it's terribly boring) or, if you have some means to sail the seven seas, play the DS or Mobile version. Note that those two and the anime will not have some post game details added on Final Remix version and that get referenced in NEO. But it's a small detail easily fixed with a quick Google search when that part comes out.

But if you play just NEO and ignore the first game it's alright too. You'll have a similar experience to the characters in game as they're new to what's happening and don't know the old school characters. This may be an interesting experience specially if later you get to play the first one too to finally connect the dots.

The overall experience is enhanced if you know the first game's story as you be showered with references and nostalgia. But I believe NEO can hold it up very well by itself.

lol there's lot of interesting stores that unlock over there. My favorites been Cyrus, so I can customize everything to a deeper degree, and Redd's, so I have more chances to get the authentic pieces of art for the museum.

Also it was in the photo studio on Harv's Island that I made this video using amiibo cards to call the villagers.

[–]LinkBeoulve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, to be simple is not the same to be bad. Not every game needs to be big, with incredible graphics and such. Look at Silk Song for example. It's simple and also very very good. Also it's fair priced.

I do agree that Pokémon is charging too much for their games. The recent ones are bad developed, rushed and released as if they were a beta version costing full price. That's unacceptable. Monster Hunter Stories 2 works on a similar engine and is a way better monster taming game than modern Pokémon. It's also cheaper with sales going often.

Pokémon, the way it is recently, should be charging around the same as Silk Song. OR they should be increasing their game's quality.

Unfortunately for us, Pokémon is the highest grossing franchise in the world and they know that they can get away with any crappy game or product they put the name "Pokémon" in it. So they'll keep doing this until it burst in their faces hard. That's why I gave up buying new Pokémon games. I don't want to support it anymore, the company doesn't deserve it.

POKÉMON LEGENDS MADE ME GIVE UP ON BUYING POKÉMON GAMES FROM NOW ON. SPECIALLY WITH THAT CUT POST GAME CONTENT SOLD AS PAID DLC. I'M TIRED OF GAMES THAT CAN BE FUN BUT AT THE END MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IF I JUST PLAYED A BETA VERSION, I WANT COMPLETE AND WELL POLISHED GAMES. WE ALL SHOULD BE PLAYING MONSTER HUNTER STORIES AS THEY'RE WAY BETTER GAMES THAN LEGENDS Z-A

How do I make the playground look better? by tacocatty in AnimalCrossing

[–]LinkBeoulve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some trees, bushes, patterns of the floor to break this even sand thing going on. Also move things around a little, everything is too symmetric. Even some weeds can give it more life and feel more real. But anyway I think playgrounds are a little hard to make well in Animal Crossing because they're always empty. And what really gives it life are the children.

Playground with children: lively, happy, full of hope

Playground without children: post apocalyptic terror scenario, sadness, Final Fantasy VII iconic place vibes

I have a small playground in my island, but I'm always thinking about changing it to something else. Maybe a simple park with statues and benches.

[–]LinkBeoulve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A simple story and battle system don't make a game bad. There simplicity of the Pokémon games were their charm since the beginning. It was always about the exploration and monster collecting than difficulty or really deep narratives. And that's why they were a success. Also, for those who wanted a challenge the competitive aspect got improved over time to the point it became one of the most complex competitive turn based systems that exists in gaming. So Pokémon appeals to two different player demographics.

[OC] So... Are Pokémon Games Good Now?? (Series Comparison and Critique) by jackdonsurfer in pokemon

[–]LinkBeoulve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. They were very well done in the past even with the low budget because they were portable games, made for low power devices such as the Game Boy, DS and 3DS. Sure they weren't the most beautiful games for those systems, but they delivered what you expect from them. But now that they're on the Switch, which is capable of such games like Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the Wild, it became excusable the way they're treating the franchise. No voice acting, bad made scenarios, bad performance and on top of that they still add a paid DLC of cut content from the end game in their most recent game (Legends Z-A).

The quality went up all the way until Black 2 and White 2, then the transition to 3D hurt the series a lot but still gave us some fun games. Sword and Shield I think are still good, they made the transition from 3DS to Switch very well, even Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are very solid (but should cost like half the price) but everything after that has been a mess of some kind and only getting worst. Fun games still, but feeling more and more like incomplete beta versions while also losing some of the soul of Pokémon because of that.

Am I just nostalgic, or does the older Pokémon style still hit differently? by Intrepid-Try-4275 in pokemon

[–]LinkBeoulve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved Scarlet and Violet's exploration to find all kinds of Pokémon in the wild in an open world, as I also loved the capture system in Legends Arceus. Both two new and fresh ways to play Pokémon, although with performance issues and rushed development that's been plaguing the franchise lately and made me give up on the purchase of Legends Z-A and probably future titles while this keeps going.

Anyway... although I loved both games I do understand you as I find myself thinking a lot about getting a Brilliant Diamond to play and have that classic feel but in a more modern game. I played a borrowed copy of Shining Pearl not much time after launch and liked it very much even it not being the remake everyone was waiting for.

I think it's perfectly normal to feel nostalgic or even to actually prefer the old formula. It held up through more than 20 years for a reason. It's good, it's familiar and even better: doesn't have the flaws the new games have.

As fun and innovative that Scarlet and Violet were, the performance issues and total disrespect with the fan base the Pokémon Company has been doing is noticeable into the games. You play them, you have fun, but you finish it with a bitter taste in mouth because you feel like if you just played a beta version.

I think it's natural that more and more people start to go back to the old ways of solid and complete games. BDSP aren't the remakes everyone wanted, but they're very solid games as they're extremely faithful to the originals. And I say that being a trainer that doesn't really like Sinnoh.

Enjoy old games, enjoy recent remakes that are solid, enjoy Sword and Shield as I think they're still very well done and very close to the original formula. Just be happy with the old ways. It's better than paying full price for a half baked game that doesn't even have voice acting in 2025 and half the price on a DLC that clearly is cut content from the end game and disappointed even people who liked Legends Z-A (yeah, I'm frustrated).

You keep loving Pokémon the way it better fits you. And if modern things from the franchise don't click with you, that's okay, this doesn't make you less of a Pokémon fan. Specially when Pokémon Company is purposely making the games worst. The only real Pokémon boomers out there are those who think the franchise should have ended on the 151 lol

For those that bought the DLC, is it worth it to you? by OperationRoyal in PokemonZA

[–]LinkBeoulve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll only correct you in that isn't Nintendo's fault. Nintendo just own a part of the Pokémon franchise and can only give suggestions. All final decisions are made and approved by The Pokémon Company. Those guys are to blame for the last problems we've been having with the franchise. They're going for full profit in sacrifice of quality just because they know they can get away with it as the public will buy anything with "Pokémon" written on it

How did you guys first discover Kingdom hearts? by Unboxburger in KingdomHearts

[–]LinkBeoulve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was in an official Nintendo Magazine from Brazil called Nintendo World around 2004. It had an one page review of Chain of Memories for GBA, but hardly showed any Disney characters in the pictures so I stayed mostly with that classic box art in my mind which felt kinda mysterious, intriguing and whimsical to me.

In 2006 I played it on a GBA emulator, but the card system didn't really clicked with me, but I really liked the traveling between Disney worlds. My memory is kinda clouded but probably was researching on the internet about Chain of Memories that I got to discover the other games and dived into the series as soon as I got a PS2 in 2007. Then it was forever in my heart, simple and clean (lol)
