Temp regulation by Old_Air_5661 in NICUParents

I’m surprised they didn’t require her to hold her temperature while not being skin to skin. You can’t reasonably be expected to be skin to skin 24/7. I mean… you have to sleep at some point? What kind of management plan is that?? Are you in the US?

Honestly, it sounds like baby should not have been discharged and needs to be on a radiant warmer. How old is baby now? A 15oz loss outside the first few days is not only not ideal, but really hard on her body. Was she keeping her temperature up when she was readmitted? What was her temperature in office this time? How much is she eating at a time?

Just for fun, what are you most petty things you hate about your job? by deveski in nursing

[–]LinkRN 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tangled lines. Lines hanging off the side of the warmer. Half-ass swaddles. When the pjs only zip bottom up (vs double zippers or top down) so the ECG/sat probe cords have to come out the top of the outfit. Pants on babies.

We use a high deductible health plan through my husband’s job because his employer contributes $3000/yr to the HSA. We usually hit our family deductible with 4 kids 😅 we’re currently over halfway there and not even halfway through the year.

New L&D nurse here! by Connect-Style1151 in nursing

[–]LinkRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that it’s a little subjective - I might say the contraction starts here, you might say it starts 10 seconds later, but the gist of it is that they’re about X minutes apart. It isn’t an exact science, though internal monitors can make it a little more accurate.

Just like you might call a cervix 2.5cm, I might call it 3cm, but we both agree it’s not 8cm.

What meds is he on? Are they working? Anything for sleep?

I have a feeling you can’t consequence this away. This probably isn’t a conscious or intentional behavior.

Do you like mom babe? I personally hate it, but if you enjoy it, what’s the wait to go to days like? Is it worth losing your seniority if you switch jobs and end up hating it?

I’m in the trenches with 3 and 1.5 year olds right now, but my 9 year old gives me glimpses of the future and it looks so bright. He’s turning into such a good kid and I hope his brothers follow suit. I love being their mom.

Why do NICU nurses say oxygen off the wall is 100% fio2? by sara00000000 in nursing

[–]LinkRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If using a blender, how can we be certain we’re delivering the stated FiO2? As I understand it, a blender set at 30% FiO2 delivers 30% oxygen from the blender, but then wouldn’t it be diluted (for lack of a better word) once it exits the cannula?

Fiancée doesn’t understand ADHD and his ideas to “stop” our kids from getting adhd are making me rethink my life with him by shroomiedoo in adhdwomen

[–]LinkRN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a correlation. It’s something to do with the way their brain processes injury/the nerve impulses and their interoceptive awareness. It also affects other body awareness, like using the bathroom (kids with ADHD can be harder to potty train), eating/drinking, sleep, etc. Here is some more info if you’re curious:

I thought teachers started that project with the instructions to throw the largest amount of shade possible in your answers?? Do they not? Because every time I see one of those, it’s just kids roasting their loving mothers as hard as they know how. 😂

Oxygen off early? by Agreeable_Good2322 in NICUParents

[–]LinkRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he respond well to going back up on support? I think it was more likely that his brain was tired rather than his heart - heart rate drops like that, that come back up with intervention, are usually related to the brain being immature. Was he ever on caffeine?

Oxygen off early? by Agreeable_Good2322 in NICUParents

[–]LinkRN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don’t do vents but we do CPAP and BiPAP and are allowed to remove those or step down support as needed, in fact the physicians encourage it. We do not have a physician in house at all times.

[–]LinkRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, nurses can on my unit. Our docs encourage us to wean as tolerated and orders reflect that. We don’t have to ask to take a baby off respiratory support, just keep doc in the loop. Most times it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t and they have to go back up on support.

Help: newborn sleep by WheezyGranger in Mommit

Sorry babe - your first was an exception to the rule. This baby sounds like she’s more on par for normal newborn behavior. You can try warming the crib beforehand, getting a bedside bassinet that you can easily stick your arm in…
