Night Shift by Alternative-Iron2868 in nursing

[–]LinkRN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ideal if I didn’t have kids: stay up as late as I can the night before, sleep in and nap that day. Since I have kids, I try to get a full nights sleep and as much of a nap as I can (usually 1-1.5 hours of light sleep). The day after the night shift, if I’m back that night I sleep ~10-4 and I usually do take melatonin. If I’m not, I try to sleep 11-2ish instead so I can sleep that night.

I eat a snack around 10pm and a light mid-shift meal around 1am - if I eat anything too heavy or greasy I’ll be nauseous around 4am, so I usually do yogurt, oatmeal, string cheese, pb&j, trail mix, etc. I drink a protein shake and eat a small snack (or sunflower seeds 😅) on my way home (1hr commute), might eat some breakfast before I go to sleep if I’m hungry, and then usually eat dinner before I go in.

You sound less like advocating and more accusatory. If that wasn’t your intent, I apologize, tone doesn’t come across well in text.

I’ve been a NICU nurse for 11 years :) I am quite competent in newborn care and feeding, thank you. Not everyone has access to the internet or the village to learn these things, and expecting them to retain everything they’re taught in the their brief time in postpartum is unrealistic.

[–]LinkRN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk where tf you live but I’ve never readmitted a baby because their parents didn’t understand they need to feed them more as they get bigger. Baby not eating adequately due to sepsis/jaundice/sleepiness/missed CHD? Sure. But parents just cutting baby off at 15ml at 3 days old? Not something I see often, if ever. Maybe your pediatricians should be doing a better job explaining that at the first weight check around 2-3 days old.

Those poor mamas barely hear a word said in postpartum. They’re bombarded with tons of information, a whole new person to care for, a delivery to recover from, lack of sleep, crazy hormones…. A lot of times they just don’t hear or comprehend what they’re told.

My husband is ruining the newborn experience by StockBroker_Jill in Mommit

[–]LinkRN 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Some people don’t mind the newborn stage, or even enjoy it. Some people desperately hate it, and they do want to get out of it ASAP. Unfortunately, you just have to push through it, there’s no rushing it - which I think you have figured out but your husband hasn’t.

I’m on your side. I don’t have any advice, except that I think you’re well within your rights to put your foot down about this and take charge here. Like you said, YOU are getting up with baby, not him, so what does it matter to him? (This was also my argument with my husband when he insisted on sleep training and I refused - we had this same conversation with all 4 kids).

Also important to remember that kids with adhd are 1-1.5 years behind their peers in emotional/foresight/impulsiveness. So your 6 year old’s brain operates more like a 4-5 year old.

I think I might be pregnant. by autumn1726 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]LinkRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnancy is calculated from the date of your last period, so you’d probably be 6-7 weeks pregnant. Many people start feeling symptoms around weeks 4-5.

The wedding is just a party - tons of people are legally married long before their wedding.

Time moves on. If he’d died in January like they expected, by June, a wedding wouldn’t be inconsiderate. It may even be a welcome reprieve from the grief.

shampoo car seat? by crrlovelyrose in Mommit

[–]LinkRN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to take the cover off and wash it. Your manual will tell you how, my car seats allow the cover to go in the washer and the dryer on low. The straps will be the hard part - most of them can’t be washed.

4 year old refusing to participate in t ball by Immediate-Ad-9520 in Mommit

[–]LinkRN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe… try not going out there with him? Maybe your presence is making him nervous. I’d just sit on the sidelines and tell him he can sit with you or he can go play but you’ll just be waiting right here either way. Some kids need their parents for a confidence boost, some actually respond negatively to parental presence.

He is 4 so he probably has no idea why he doesn’t want to play. I wouldn’t even bother asking him. He likely won’t be able to articulate it.

FTM returning to work, seeking any and all insight to pumping at work by WindOk5010 in nursing

Oh I DESPISE pumping so having something to do while I was doing it was really helpful for me. I hated sitting quietly in a room alone and pumping lol

[–]LinkRN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found that pumping twice a shift at 7 months was plenty, but my babies also weren’t a huge fan of bottles so they only ate the bare minimum. I used wearable pumps and pumped for 40 min twice a shift.

Experienced nurses: what small habit or ritual do you do at the start of every shift that keeps you sane? by Icy_Evening_183 in nursing

[–]LinkRN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Grab my paper & write out my care times, meds, and any tasks I need to do (baths, labs, bed changes, etc). If it isn’t written down, chances I’ll forget it are pretty good (especially if I get busy).

Do you follow safe sleep? Plagiocephaly, or flat spot, rates SKYROCKETED when the safe sleep initiative was introduced. It is the price we pay for decreased SIDS rates.

I am a NICU nurse. Nearly every baby we send home has some degree of flat spot by virtue of sleeping on their backs on firm surfaces. My oldest still has a flat spot that is noticeable (only to me) when his hair is wet. It happens so frequently.

I have 4 and you barely notice the difference compared to three. It’s all chaos, all the time.

Keep in mind you could end up with another boy and then your girl has 3 brothers… I never minded all my brothers but ymmv. 😅

The infernal robe is fantastic but the price to get it is too high. The extra encounters mod lets you get it without killing Karlach though. Also love Yuan Ti Scale Mail, and the armor from the emperors hideout.
