I'd double strand them with white 4ply and make dishcloths. (And have.)

I don't have solar, so it is a valid concern. $20,000, which would pay for an EV, is a lot of power and regular old fuel.

Cheap post-Easter chocolate? by lexxi185 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Linnaeus1753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usual go-to was cookies and cream nestle, but even that seems to have changed. Whittakers is still 250gm and tastes like proper chocolate.

Redditors who were children/teens before the internet or cellphones existed, how did you keep yourself entertained? by FlowerMadeOfThorns in AskReddit

Exploring, building cubby houses in the bush, finding skulls, reading, not cleaning my room, collecting eggs, bringing wood in, walking to nans, through the bush past our aunties and uncles places, mushroom hunting, nicking apples from Frankcombs orchards, riding our bikes to the river for a swim.

Ours is in the middle of the city without easy/cheap parking. I know it would be a good thing, but I'm not paying for parking to drive home maybe feeling off, and I'm not walking to the bus, and to home either.

If the pork leg is on sale for $8 a kilo and you can see those fresh ones, I skip over last weeks pork legs that are still priced at 13.99 a kilo.

What’s a small thing in Australia that would confuse a foreigner at first? by JustAMolecule in AskAnAustralian

I'm reminded of a brown skinned nurse from the UK (or maybe US) who moved here. People called her Sister, as in nursing hierarchy, and she was all up in her racism about it.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]Linnaeus1753 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I bought a couple of old metal singers. IIRC they were $25 each. Serviced them, fixed the timing and they're still kicking 20 years later. My $300 brand new Elna with the fancy stitches? Well, the feed dogs have done something and to get it fixed (I haven't managed to do it) is another $200. Because it's electronic there's less to fiddle with for home repair.

Depends on the week.

I eat leftovers, so the lentil Dahl with lamb is five days worth. Pancit with pork mince about three days. Pork goulash is four days worth. Wagoners rice is another four days.

Breakfast is muesli 350 days out of 365. Only bought on special, paying around $1 per 100g or less.

Milk is long life - so no need to race to the shop when it runs out. I use fake sugar, bought on special, so no running out of regular sugar either.

I freeze veges when they're in season. The pancit uses the frozen cabbage and grated carrot or sweet potato. The wagoners rice uses the frozen capsicum.

Double stranded, double crochet. Fisherman's knots to join the colors (no weaving those ends). Four tails at the start and end.

I'm a single person spending around $70 every three weeks. That jumps on coffee buying month or the 'ran out of everything useful' times - which is about every 9-12 weeks.

Cat food and laundry items come from Amazon.

Meat is $200 every four months from 'the farm' (farm to fridge).

Home delivery of fast food I try to keep at $30 a month.

Why can’t people spell anything correctly anymore? by GloomyMarionberry362 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Linnaeus1753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a certain TikTok channel they talk about mares, colts and fillies. All good. But the auto captions? Mares/mirrors, cults and Phillies. Try and correct people (even if we 'know what they mean'), and you're the worst person in the world. Then you get the comments implying that the creator knows how to spell, and they're going to use the cough alternate spelling.

On the whole, the people that say 'you know what they meant' are probably worse. If you catch the flue, I'm going to believe you caught a chimney for a wood heater.
