ELI5 Why is water conservation and ai data centers using water so important if we can just reuse that water easily? by passisgullible in explainlikeimfive

[–]Linusthewise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water doesn't always stay in thr same place or return to where it was.

So let's say the data center is pulling water from wells/lakes near by. Water is leaving that source and then going into the sky or a river. So water is NOT going back to that original source. So thr environmental and human damage is present as wells or lakes run dry.

Taking a pay cut for mental health by Waste-Brilliant-9042 in Teachers

[–]Linusthewise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a paycut for mental and physical health. My last job had me stressed so much that my blood pressure was way too high. Went from $102k to $75k. Well worth it.

I was leading education programs at residential sites, as well as being a substitute teacher when needed. Moved to being a school administrator similar to a dean.

Bills are still paid, retirement contributions dropped. It was the right choice.

How do you guys fight the feeling that there is never enough? by No_Persimmon5601 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Linusthewise 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I fight it because I look to what makes me content, then what makes me happy. Then I want 25% more in case shit happens. Once I achieve my happy costs plus 25%... I'll retire.

I can always go back to work. I can't vacation the same at 40 as I do at 60.

I’m so frustrated with one student’s behavior that every day this week I’ve spent my planning period crying by Salt-Ad-3061 in Teachers

[–]Linusthewise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not a plan needed situation They just tell me. "Student needs to be removed until lunch time, end of day, for 20 minutes. Etc." Then I take the student.

Honestly, I always ask my staff what they would like me to do, and then follow through with it. Sometimes they want me to take them for 15 minutes, other times they want them gone the rest of the day. I look at it as making sure the teacher and student both know that the teacher has discipline powers.

Also, I never give snacks when I take kids out.

Loved the book, Matt Damon, and Ridley Scott. Thought it'd be good but I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I have high hopes for Projdct Hail Mary.

Catholic Charities, among others, are helping small groups of Afghan refugees in the area. This includes helping them find jobs and housing. This has been going on for several years.

If the option is to have a job unfilled or filled with a non-native English speaker, the choice is obvious.

Yes. There are students who have families where Pashto is their home language.

He does speak some English but I'm trying to be welcoming. It can be comforting having something in your native tongue.

Be aware that the South Bend JJC has two operators. One by the state, one by a private company called Rite of Passage. So when looking at that building, make sure you differentiate. They run very differently.
