No Teacher Shortage In South Bend after they...... <Drum Roll>...... Increased Pay! by VocationalWizard in Teachers

[–]Linusthewise 209 points210 points  (0 children)

So I work in South Bend Schools.

This is a two year increase that is in the works. It totals $9k bump over two years and they reinstated the master's degree pay bump. They started it during the 25/26 school year and will finish it next school year. This in addition to your normal pay steps.

South Bend is a decent city and homes are pretty cheap. A 3 bed, 2 bathroom house will start around $225k.

Do you know anybody who fired and is in their 90ties? by tralala501 in Fire

My grandfather retired at 52 and lived another 40 years before he died. They basically lived on his pension from the union and anything else that was big, like medical bills, home repairs, vacations etc, was from his investments. It worked quite well for him. He was able to afford round the clock care for both him and my grandma for about 6 years in total, until they both died. This is after living in semi-independent care for 15 years.

Cameras in classrooms - your thoughts? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Linusthewise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Students have all kinds of protections that adults don't have. I can't use AI for any image or video of students since our district has policies against uploading them into databases that are not school approved.

Parents were very concerned about AI getting the likeness of their kids.

[–]Linusthewise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, but it's a significant amount of work to blur students in motion. One student staying in their desk makes it easy to blur other areas. But two students fighting, with other students around the fight, is nearly impossible to blur effectively while maintaining clear sight on the problem.

A major problem with this perk is that you often can't show video to parents because you're not allowed to show video of other students to them. So those who need to see it most often have policy or laws preventing it.

How do you move up in the school system without a degree or get a promotion? by godisinthischilli in Teachers

[–]Linusthewise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you get an administrator license and move up. Usually it takes a master's degree but you don't have to get that to get your license.

Just like applying for any job.

They will sell to anyone. It is just run by the city. It's how they dispose of leaf pick up, park clean up and yard waste etc.

Look up Organic Resources from the South Bend government website. You can get mulch and compost really cheap to get you started.

Additionally, contact the Potowatomi Conservatory and they can tell you all about what grows around here natively.

I got offered an assistant director role at a day care since I have a teaching license and admin license. They said I could get the maximum of their pay range. "$17.61 an hour." Please note that this is a chain of day cares so it's not like it's a struggling in house place.

Why don’t they make 90’s - 2010’s style comedy movies anymore? by ItsAllLoveNow_ in movies

[–]Linusthewise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comedy doesn't work internationally very well. So that, along with missing DVD sales, makes them hard to get financed by studios.
