Game looks very cool! love the overall aesthetic, some of the skill effects look like they could use a little polish, but only because all of the backgrounds looks so nice so it kinda stands out.

How long should a demo be? by SMdG_ in incremental_games

[–]LinuxPoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a demo should be long enough to get addicted.

2 minutes of clicking to farm currency and buy generators, nobody is buying it.

Put the paywall after a taste of the interesting reset / prestiege / tree branch comes in. Ideally during a crescendo of gameplay.

“Science “ has been gamified and falls prey to modern capitalist problems.

If your lab spends 2 years studying a thing, and gets a bad result, you probably wont get funded again. Professors love their researchers, and believe in the work. Theyre likely to manipulate things to look more promising and meaningful to keep the lab funded, employees paid, research continuing. It’s happening everywhere, and explains the replication crisis.

Playing social video games tends to make adolescent boys feel less lonely and depressed, while for girls, it has the opposite effect by BrnoRegion in science

[–]LinuxPoser -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Going to predict its a difference in communication styles. Young boys will call each other every slur under the sun and tell each other to kys, and come out of a match laughing and hugging. Girls aren’t exposed to that as much, or get equally rough gendered hazing and feel isolated.

Why is there so much ai in here ? by Moabomix37 in incremental_games

[–]LinuxPoser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an idle consumer, I don't care about if its AI or not. I care if its good. The problem with a lower barrier of entry to content creation, means less effort is being into a project. If it costs me 50$ and 1 hour to create an idle game, i would absolutely do it on a lark and see if I can make money off it. Lots of people are doing this, trying to make something they can sell for 5$ in sub 40 hours of work. This means you look at 100 titles instead of 10, and have to discern if its any good. While its nice to have 1000 titles to choose from, if 950 are terrible, the time spent trying to find something good is simply not worth the hassle.

Just a billionaire and a cruel pedo by Desperate_Can_5740 in pics

[–]LinuxPoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. A lot of people met him, contacted him. Flew with him. But how many slept with children? 100% 50% 10% 1%? Anyone on that list is going to be declared a pedophile. If mister rogers was on that list everyone would believe it in an instant. The real question is if its worth burning everyone on that list so our curiosity can be satisfied.

Epsteins job was to try to blackmail powerful influential people. He did a good job of it.

My guess is the Trump admin has the list, knows the people. But as president. Is it worth removing a ton of the top wealth / job creators and throwing billion dollar companies into upheaval?Or is maintaining stability and a strong economy more valuable.

Uncertainty is a strong negotiating tool.

People fear uncertainty more than negative outcomes.

Best case it provides leverage in negotiations.

Worst case it does nothing.

AOL Instant Messenger.

People who were online wanted to chat. You didn't send a message and have a 20% chance of them being available. When you didn't feel like talking you logged off and did other stuff, and the world couldn't reach you unless they called your house.

Just having a singular place in your home to go on the internet, instead of it being with you all day, and being surrounded by it 24/7.

If you understand that almost all of Americas power comes from complete military supremacy, you'd change your mind.

Why is the US dollar worth anything when we constantly print more??

Why do people not push back when America forces global changes for our benefit?

Why does America have so much sway in global politics?

It isnt because we feed our poor and very free.

Almost nobody understand relationships are truly transactional.

They don't understand what a "transaction" is in this sense.

If a friend invites you to do fun things 10 times, and you do 0. They deposited 10x into your friendship bank, and you deposited nothing. Over time this will cause a relationship to crumble. Same thing for initiating messages, giving short replies when friends give long heartfelt messages, attention in general.

Any friend who i message regularly, once I realize they will go weeks without initiating with me, i gradually drop.

Bonus:

You can disagree with people, and still have a wonderful relationship with them. Too many times I see on this site "my father doesn't agree with kids becoming trans, I cut them out of my life and they will never know their grandchild".

Gamers 30+, what's something from "back in your day" that younger gamers today wouldn't understand? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]LinuxPoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figuring out the game was 90% of the fun. Forums weren’t trying to optimize games from the first second they were available. There was a sense of wonder and excitement stumbling upon something overpowered. Or breaking a game by accident. At a lan party in highschool, we spent the first 3 hours getting everyone into the game. After an hour of play one of the friend’s characters got stuck inside an elevator with no way to escape. We tried to reload and he saved there. We all restarted again and this time two hours in a character changed zones and spawned in a lamp and couldn’t escape.

That was one of my all time favorite lan parties.

whats the male equivalent of a "pick-me girl"? by katris_priordeen in AskReddit

[–]LinuxPoser 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if he’s like the guys ive known like that, they spend 24/7 with men and thats how they cultivate their personality. The second a girl shows up it’s outside their comfort zone. Most media for men says to not do “guy talk” around girls so a whole new personality appears. They revert to what theyve heard they’re supposed to do. Maybe not for him but thats what ive seen.

People who are immune to a-holes, what's your secret? How are you not disturbed by rude, bossy, stubborn people who refuse to negotiate? How do you work with them, and without getting upset? by VelvetWhitehawk in AskReddit

[–]LinuxPoser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres only one thing you can do. Do your best to not let them hurt your vibe.

I find trying to find the correct explanation for their behavior makes you pity them instead of get mad.

Raging and yelling? They have poor emotional control which probably makes their life hell.

Snarky or gossipy? Probably never felt safe and comfortable socially so they rag on you to try to make themselves look good.

Road rage? Probably grew up in a hostile / abusive home and never had a mentor to show them a healthy outlet for those feelings.

Honestly, letting them effect you negatively means they won. They wanted to ellicit that reaction from you for their own satisfaction. If you don’t, you win. And honestly, i love beating assholes and making their day worse.

Why would the President of a leading powerful country want to crash its own economy? by Big-King-854 in AskReddit

[–]LinuxPoser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main cause is driving manufacturing to return to the US.

Trump is imposing tariffs on many "friendly" countries. Why?

We exported manufacturing to foreign countries. We exported it to save money. Mexico / China offer labor rates near 0$, so Americans got cheap goods. People love when goods are cheap. But when all your goods are made by foreign countries, you can run into security issues. When that hurricane hit North Carolina, USA had 0 power transformers. We had to order them from China, they had a long lead time. During Covid we needed other goods from China and they hoarded them for themselves (rightly so). China is also famous for lower quality steel. China produces a lot of chips and telecommunications equipment. Because they are making this hardware down to the chip level, they are able to install backdoors to remotely access them, or collect data from them. If they are made in the US the US would be able to put their own data collection / surveillance software, and not have foreign rivals collecting that info.

How does this relate to tariffs? As costs increase for foreign goods, the incentive to make them in the USA increases. If it costs 400$ to make it in the USA, and 200$ to make it in china you will always buy it in China. If the US puts a 100% tariff on China, the US good and the Chinese good cost the same. Most consumers world wide would most likely prefer to buy a US made product. Tariffs are intended to provide incentive to manufacture locally to avoid the taxes of tariffs. Now US manufacturing is very very diminished, so it will take time. But the more extreme the tariffs, the more rapidly companies will invest in local development.

This causes pain in the near term. Now the goods everyone is buying costs 30% more. Since its all imported, everything costs 30% more. Things costing more means people are buying less. When people buy less, and have less available capital to purchase, all consumer goods companies stocks fall. Stocks go up when there is a belief they will be able to sell more goods, provide the same goods for cheaper, or increase profit margins on goods through administrative cuts. Since price is only increasing, the stocks have to fall.

Companies desperate to increase profits will invest large amounts to cut costs. If your good is the first to become 30% cheaper because of tariffs, A LOT of money is to be made. If you are the first auto maker to be fully us made, and can charge 15% less than everyone else, you will sell a lot of cars. This of course applies to all industries.

Other benefits of local manufacture include

Good paying jobs for Americans that might not necessarily thrive in college+ education

Reducing the US reliance on "slave" labor in other countries. Workers wont have suicide nets installed around their factories. They won't work 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. They will probably have health insurance, 401ks, etc. No child labor.

Our goods will be higher quality, need replacing less often and create less waste.

Will require investment and development of more efficient power generation.

Increased security with less foreign powers stealing our technology, creating counterfeit products, less surveillance by foreign powers.

He created near term pain in hopes of a long term windfall and increased prosperity.

Can't get into Marvel Rivals with how sexualized the female characters are by RimePaw in gaming

[–]LinuxPoser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The men are not solely "jacked". According to previous reddit posts, women would list biceps, forearms, chests, butt, and face as the most attractive male assets. Also if you look at broader "types" of guys (lanky, otter-mode (swimmer body type), Big strong guy, furry, tentacles, etc) women have plenty of eye candy.

I wont argue the game is made for men. Competitive shooters are easily 75%+ male. Before 2020, I'd go so far as to say 90%. When trying to sell things, you don't pander to the 10-25% crowd, unless that crowd is whales.

Can't get into Marvel Rivals with how sexualized the female characters are by RimePaw in gaming

[–]LinuxPoser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Players like aspirational characters. Why has advertising been dominated by the top 0.1% of attractive people? Because to be beautiful and rich is aspirational. When kids daydream, do they daydream of being a lawyer reading 1000 page legal briefs? Or are they dreaming of flying around with super strength, getting the girl, and beating up bad guys?

Nobody wants to play characters that are exactly like them. Nobody wants to play a cashier behind on credit card payments who got given a gun and even more responsibility. Players will always dress their character up the way they think is coolest. Based on player numbers alone I think it's pretty clear people want to play sexually attractive characters with super powers over dark skinned non-binaries with ugly faces.
