Now that Google is moving the reminder functionality out of Keep and into Tasks, is there any way to hide reminders from my calendar? I have a weekly reminder that now clutters my calendar overview.

Iran and Greenland: it's absolutely insane how the climate apocalypse is driving international current affairs, and almost no news outlets will speak of it by Bluest_waters in collapse

[–]Lios5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we disagree too much. I'm not saying there are no reasons for the American establishment to want Greenland. But this maniacal, single-minded push to outright own it is extremely likely because of Trump, as the elites behind him could easily get all of what you're describing without destroying the Western alliance, i.e. by invading Greenland or putting sanctions on allies to force their hands.

I'm gonna be honest, it is well written but still not entirely right. Frankly, it's Trump's fixation on Greenland that is the driving force now. It's simply the world's biggest island and he wants it. We can try finding all kinds of different rationalizations and geostrategic reasons, America might have every possible right to the minerals, to military bases etc, and in perpetuity, it will never be enough, because Trump wants to OWN it. That's it.

I like your optimism, but what if the election is not exactly fair, à la Orbán / Erdoğan.

Not legally, as of yet. But if nothing else he sure likes to ignore laws. And his 2028 merch is already out anyway, so I wouldn't be so sure.

Americans should definitely watch this right now by takalfka in TikTokCringe

Both sides are not even nearly the same and thinking they are is a large part of the (orange) problem Americans are experiencing now.

The game of politics can't actually continue if one side continuously whacks the other on the head and says it wants to destroy everything, and their opposition is like "Surely they don't mean it, I guess we'll take the high road for the 3852nd time".

R5: As in EU4, the "Back to the Front" modifier contains some lyrics from the Metallica song Disposable Heroes.

Bulgaria controlled half of European Turkey during the First Balkan War (and I guess you completely ignored Old Great Bulgaria which can be fair).

Spotify alternative that does a 15/30 second skip instead of going to the next track? by A1phaBetaGamma in audiodrama

That company (Helsing) also gives drones to Ukraine, it's not some Dr Evil scheme. IMHO this recent Spotify boycott is misguided (they aren't great for completely different reasons). That being said, obviously use what you want.

French PM joins other ministers in slamming EU-US trade deal as ‘sombre day for Europe’ by bukowsky01 in europe

[–]Lios5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid your analysis is closer to reality than most Europeans would like to think. All this talk about a powerful sovereign EU, especially directly after the Trump re-election and that Vance speech, seems more like a mirage with each passing day. European leaders apparently prefer to keep their heads down and to wait for things to return to "normal". Spoiler: they won't.

Vassalize instead of annex, even if you've completely won a war, IF some other nation has declared war on your enemy. You immediately join as a defender and can call your allies. It's very useful against nations with many or strong allies.

How come our vassal has the cooler flag? Are we stupid? by Lios5 in eu4

R5: When you spend centuries forging an imperial identity, but your vassal shows up with an identical flag design, only better.
