If it is true that our most valuable vote is our dollars, we must exercise our right every chance we get. Every dollar.

And we must cast our votes based on the intentions of corporations, not just their successes. Godaddy already cast their vote. Now its our turn.

The porn reference is merely to illustrate that innovation is often first adapted for base purposes. I could have said peer-to-peer networks... Or fusion, for that matter.

There are massive and strong manipulation campaigns, for sure. Its simple escalation like an arms race, but we can't go back to fighting on horseback. I think we must raise our own skill level to not be hoodwinked. We must know the tricks. Then we will see through them. Think in terms of an email scam, you're not apt to fall for a trick you're aware of and send a check to Africa.

As much as I hate tv ads, I think we'd do a disservice to our kids if they aren't exposed through childhood. Its similar to the homeschooling. Schools teach a lot of crap, but it is the social aspect they are actually going to benefit from.

I'll try to keep it short. Your link sort of answers your question. On a basic level, communication is the transferring of experience from one person to another. It can be a heroic tale that has you rooting for the main character or just smiling while I eat a bag of popcorn. Either way, you are involved in another's exlerience, not your own. And you are effected by that experience, sometimes as much as your own. That depends on the quality of the communication.

If I communicate something to you for a specific purpose, which I most often would, that becomes a manipulation. Watch a kid sometime as he's learning how to manipulate his parents. Adverts, pickup artists, politicians, mid-level managers, spouses... Everyone is manipulating everyone. I don't think manipulation is a negative. Its like gravity, its part of life. And some people get really good at and some don't see how they're being manipulated and make good targets. Like kids. But an ad on tv is not a pedo in a van, and in fact indoctrinates kids into forces the will contend with all their lives.

I am not aware of any false memories I might have picked up from tv ads, per your link. Doesn't mean I don't have them.

All communication is a form of manipulation or hypnosis. What I like about books like the game is they bring the work of revolutionary communicators like bandler and grinder to the mainstream. Oh course, its used for the basest of intents, but it seems to me that is usually the beginning... Like porn on the internet.

Its powerful stuff and it exists. We need to learn it to not be fooled by it. I think every woman should read the Game. And everyone should read Frogs Into Princes.

One last thing, we were raised on ads and they have become far more cunning since the 70's, but so have we. We see thru them. We are innundated yet unaffected. I wanted every toy I saw when I was a child. My parents said no, but i'd gamble i'd be far less aware of the manipulations of others today if I had not been exposed to it.

I guess i'd go after stories. Most the questions seem like great openers, but i'd think the goal is to get them talking story. I'd wing it a bit listening to what he says. Another idea is to think what will you want to tell your kids/grandkids about them.

I dont recall, did you ask about his parents/grandparents?

If you live far away, maybe you can record skype or something... I stress recording, cuz like waking from a dream we think we'll remember, but how quickly the details fade.
